You sewed the last stitch of the baby sized beanie.
"All done." You sighed to yourself as you examined the small hat.
It was light green for unisex. You and Soda were eager to learn the baby's gender, but you had to wait until that faithful day when the baby was ready.
You sighed heavily as you struggled to lay on your side on the bed. Your belly bump was so enormous and it weighed a ton.
Soda knocked on the door and smiled brightly and hopped into bed to spoon you.
"What do ya think the gender will be?" You asked Soda, feeling the greased tufts of his hair.
"Hm." He thought, "Girl."
"Really?"
"Yep, I can feel it."
"Well, I feel it's a boy."
"No way, totally girl, bet."
"What makes you so sure?"
"My gut tells me." He lifts up his shirt and scrunches up his belly so that he has rolls then bunches them up with his hands.
You started to laugh at Soda but suddenly gasped.
"What is it?" Soda blurted out in panic.
"The baby kicked." You smiled, touching your gigantic belly.
Soda relaxed and grinned. He put his hand on your belly and the baby kicked against his hand.
"She likes me already." Soda said slyly.
You rolled your eyes and pulled him in for a kiss. But during the kiss, you both were interrupted by-
"EEEEYYYY YOOOO!!!!" Steve who burst through the door with Two-Bit bouncing behind him.
"Oh you having a threesome in here, my bad." Two joked.
"But there's two of us." Soda pointed out.
"You're forgetting the baby." Two snickered.
"Gross." You said, throwing a pillow at him.
"Everyone's going to the park to play football, wanna come?" Steve tossed a dirty football between his hands.
Soda looked at you with permission.
"Of course, babe." You chuckled, pinching his cheek, "Go have fun with everyone, I'll stay here and get some rest."
His face brightened but then he held your hand tightly.
"But the baby." He said with worry, "You'll be alone, what if it comes? What if something bad happens?"
"Soda, you'll only be gone for an hour or two." You reassured him, "And the baby is supposed to be due in at least a week. Nothing bad will even happen because no one stops to rob a home like this."
Soda smiled and kissed you once more.
"Last one's out is a Soc!" Dally yelled causing scampering feet out the door.
"Love you." Soda softly said as he stood up, "And I'll make sure the game lasts thirty minutes."
"Love you too." You giggled.
Soda closed the door and a rare silence filled the house. The summer heat made you crave ice cream. The baby wanted some too. You strained as you struggled to get off the bed which took you about five minutes. You shuffled your way into the kitchen and took out a tub of your favorite ice cream. The gang, especially Soda, knew to never leave the cooler without your favorite ice cream or you would turn into a demon.
You slowly leaned down on the couch and flipped on the TV while eating spoonfuls from the tub. You snapped your fingers when you realized pickles would go perfect with it.
You strained as you sat up and started walking to the kitchen. Suddenly, you felt something burst belong you and gasped. You look down in horror to see water. You stood there in shock for a minute to grasp onto the situation.
"Crap." You finally said.
You shuffled into the bedroom to get your bag of stuff for the baby, but no one was here to help. You needed Soda but he was gone yet again.
"Why does he have to be gone when something happens?" You groan.
You stopped in your tracks when you felt mild pain in your abdominal area which went away after a bit.
"Oh no, it's starting already?!" You panicked.
You took deep breaths to stay calm. You check the time and realized it had only been fifteen minutes since the guys left to the park. You had no choice but to go find Soda.
You waddled your way down the streets, calling Soda's name until a contraction erupted more greatly in your abdomen and back. You slowly knelt to the ground in pain, breathing deeply.
"Hey, look!" You heard a guy pull over with his friends, "It's Soda's little whore!"
You glanced up and saw a group of high and drunk Socs. You wanted to shout at them but you had no time and the pain still seeped through you.
"Leave me alone." You mumbled.
"You ain't any fun." One of them groaned.
They hopped out of their car and approached you.
"Say, what if we take a baseball bat and whack her like a piñata?" One of them laughed.
"Don't you dare!" You snapped.
They oohed and laughed more. You took out a pocket knife you've always kept in your pocket.
"Stay back." You said lowly.
But you accidentally dropped the knife when another contraction came and you screamed in pain.
"Gross." They remarked.
They took your arms and pinned them behind you and covered your mouth with a handkerchief. The lead Soc picked up the pocket knife off the ground and held it up to your chin. He evilly smirked as he dragged the knife to your belly, feeling the blade slightly graze you but luckily there was no cut.
You whimpered, shaking your head no. The knife was suddenly knocked out of the Soc's hand and was punched in the face. You look up to see Soda boiling with rage. The gang beat up the other Socs, making them retreat to their side of town.
"No one hurts my girl and baby, ya here?!" Soda yelled at the Socs, spitting at the ground.
He turned and his fiery anger turned into worry.
"Y/N! You okay?! Is the baby okay?! Why are you here?!" He exclaimed, "I heard you yelling out here, I thought you was back home!"
"I was." You panted, holding your belly, "But my water broke."
Soda's eyes widened and a smile crept onto his face.
"You mean...?" He asked with surprise.
You nodded. The gang gasped in unison. Soda was going to cheer when he realized that you needed help right away.
"We need to take you to the hospital." He became serious, "Did you have any contractions yet, babe?"
"Yes-," You were cut off by another strong contraction that left you screaming.
Soda cursed and held your hand.
"It's okay." He nervously reassured you.
He looked up the gang who nodded and left to go help. Darry had already left when you said that your water broke and pulled over with the car.
"I'll pick them up once you both are dropped off." Darry called from inside.
"Thanks, Darry." Soda smiled.
"No problem, anything for my kid brother, sister, and niece or nephew." Darry got out of the car to help you walk to the car.
You gasped for air and opened your eyes when the contraction left. Soda rubbed your hand and kissed the top of your head.
"I can't wait to be a dad!" Soda burst with excitement. You couldn't help but laugh and softly cheer along with him.
Darry drove as fast as he could but obeyed the laws so that he wouldn't get in trouble. Once you reached the hospital, Soda and a couple nurses walked you to a room where they kept you in a bed.
There was still an hour or two left before it might be time to push for you. Soda never left your side. He made you laugh and grin through your uncomfortable and painful situation. He also helped in any way he can to make you in a more comfortable position.
"I just want this baby out already." You pouted your lip.
"Me too." Soda laughed, "I can't wait to hold her, play with her, watch her grow up and get married. I'll be with her my entire life like how I wished dad would've been. Man, I want to be a dad."
"Still set on the baby being a girl, huh?" You smirked.
"Well, girl or boy, doesn't matter." He spoke honestly, "We'll raise a healthy, good kid together."
"Come here, you." You pulled him in and kissed him.
You had to pull away from the middle of the kiss when a contraction came. You bit your lip and held Soda's hand to hold your screams. You were used to them but at the same time you weren't. Soda massaged you and protectively watched over you.
"You're doing great." He whispered.
Your contractions increasingly got closer and more painful to endure. After the worse one you've felt. You turned to Soda, panting and whimpering.
"Y/N." He said softly, chocked up because he didn't like seeing you in pain.
"Soda." You whispered back, "I think it's time."
He nodded with a smile. He wanted the baby, but he was getting worried about you.
A handful of workers came in for the delivery. The doctor came up and ask you questions, but you could barely speak so Soda spoke for you. When the doctor put on her gloves and checked inside for the baby. A concerned look was spread on her face.
"What's wrong?" Soda asked nervously.
"The baby is breach." She announced.
"Breach? Wha-What does that mean?" Soda asked more anxiously.
"Your baby's feet is at the entrance of where the head should be." The doctor explained while getting prepared quickly, "Since the head is the biggest part of the body to get out, it has to go out first so that the whole body can easily slip out. But since the baby is faced the other way, the baby will get stuck if it is delivered vaginally."
"So what do we do?" You ask.
"We have to perform a c-section." She responded.
Soda turned white and held onto your hand. He knew that a c-section was dangerous but the only option. You could see in his eyes that he was afraid for you.
"No, Y/N..." He whimpered.
You simply smiled back.
"I don't want to do this either." You cupped his cheek, stroking him with your thumb, "But it's the only way, for our baby."
His Adam's apple bobbed and he gave you a nervous smile. He kissed you for the last time until you were separated from each other. You saw his dark brown eyes well up with tears, you couldn't help but do the same.
"I love you." You said before leaving room.
"I love you too." Soda said back quickly.
You were taken into a different room under lights and surrounded by masked people and tools. You were not afraid for yourself but for the baby. They put a mask over your face and you suddenly felt drowsy. You fell into a deep sleep.
Soda and the gang watched anxiously through the window. Soda had his hands on the glass, trying hard not to cry seeing you hidden under the cover but he knew that you were being cut by the tools.
After what seemed like hours of anticipation, a voice called out from inside that the baby is seen. Soda leaned closer to the window, standing on his tippy toes like a child looking through a candy shop.
Then the sweet sound of crying filled the air. The gang was on the edge of their toes, looking behind Soda who grinned when he finally saw his baby. It was a girl.
Soda sobbed happily, looking at the crying baby who was quickly cleaned and wrapped. But they put the baby somewhere where he couldn't see her anymore and Soda desperately wanted to break down the window to hold his daughter but he had to wait.
He gasped when he remembered you. You were still under amnesia and workers still operated on you. His heart sank when he saw your face turn pale.
"Soda." Pony yawned behind him, "We'll go back home, Darry said you'll stay and to call him to pick him up when you're ready."
Soda looked at the clock and realized is was almost 3am.
"Okay, Pony." Soda nodded, "Ya need sleep anyway, you got school in the morning."
He said goodbye to the gang and sat near the window to wait for you and the baby. Minutes later he fell asleep in the chair.
Soda was jolted awake by loud, frantic scrambling. He realized that the noises came from your room.
"Y/N!" He exclaimed.
He ran into the window but he couldn't see you through the swarm of busy people. He gasped in horror when he saw the heart monitor stayed flat. A distorted sound came from inside of him and he felt sick.
The workers calmed down and looked at your body with sadness.
"No, please." He whispered, tears starting to flow down his face.
He finally saw your face, eyes closed forever. Soda couldn't believe every minute. It felt like a nightmare but it was all real. The love of his life was gone.
He could finally go inside, but every step he took was frightening. He cried when he touched your sleeping face and hair and watched sadly as your body was covered and taken away, leaving him alone.
He finally collapsed to his knees in a sob. He painfully bawled into his hands, wanting to disappear from the world.
"Sir, sir." The doctor softly tapped Soda's shoulder.
He looked up, sniffling.
"Your baby is waiting for you." She said.
Soda immediately stood up and followed the doctor to the nursery.
"Can I hold her?" Soda asked.
"Yes." The doctor said, "She was born very healthy and beautiful."
A nurse gave Soda the sleeping baby swaddled in a pink blanket. He held her carefully and touched her soft, red cheeks. More tears came running down when he saw the baby looked like you. He managed to smile and laugh bittersweetly.
"So cute." He marveled quietly, "I'm a dad now."
And almost like an echo, he heard your voice in the air say "Take care of our child, I love you Soda."
He still cried but he grinned through his tears.
"I will, for the rest of my life." He swore.
He named her after her mother.Geez this was long, and it's 12 am on a Sunday I need to sleep. The first idea was intended for you to live but I thought, that's too happy. I hope you liked it, sorry posting is slow I have a lot of stuff I'm doing rn.
