Johnny was alone, smoking in the lot. He watched the sun rise from the dark. Everything was silent, except for the chirping birds up in the trees.
Dally spotted Johnny all by himself so he decided to join him.
"Hey, Johnny." Dally said as he sat next to him.
"Oh, hey Dal." Johnny said with a smile.
"Got a light?" Dally said as Johnny handed him a cigar.
"Yeah."
The light flickered and sparked until it lit a flame. He put it against his cigar and took a hit.
Both of them just sat there, watching the sky turn bright as the sun was rising.
Dal noticed a new cut on Johnny's soft cheek. He started to touch it a bit and Johnny flinched at his soft touch.
"Did your old man do this?" Dal asked in a soft voice.
Johnny nodded as tears started to flow from his eyes.
Dally looked around to see if anyone was there, they were all alone.
"Come here." Dallas said as he wrapped his arm around Johnny, pulling him in carefully.
Johnny buried his face into Dally's chest, his sniffles were muffled by his leather jacket.
Dallas embraced Johnny in his big arms and watched over him while smoking.
"I'm here for you." Dally said in a low voice, "I'll always be there for you, no matter what."
Johnny looked up at him and smiled through his tears.
"I'll always count on you, Dal." Johnny said, "You're my best friend in the whole world."
Dally hugged him tighter, like he was going to lose him.
Johnny fell asleep in his arms, so did Dallas.

Dallas sat in his hospital bed, fiddling with the pocket knife.
All he could think about was Johnny.
Johnny's screams of pain from the fire echoed in his mind. He wished that Johnny never followed Pony. He wished he could have been there in time before Johnny got hit with the board. He wished that Johnny was going to be okay.
Dallas started to cry to himself. He didn't want to lose him.
"Come on, Dal," He growled, "Come on, do it for Johnny! We have to win for him, man."
I'll always count on you, Dal...
He remembered the words clearly in his mind. He clenched the pocket knife in his fist.
"You got it, Johnny." Dally said as he got up to go to the rumble.
