"Here we are!" You heard your mom exclaim.
You woke up from your nap in the backseat of the car.
"Our new home." Your dad said, slowing down.
You peeked out the window, squinting from the sunlight.
It was a small house. It looked decent.
Your parents decided to move to a neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma because they found better jobs there. You weren't exactly hyped about the whole idea.
You scrunched up your nose when you looked at the house, you wanted to go back home.
You stepped out of the car, unpacking your stuff and putting it in your new room.
When you were carrying a box, you saw someone peeking at you in the corner of your eye. It looked like a boy.
You turned your head to see who it was and he was gone. You shrugged it off and continued walking.
I guess I'm seeing things now, You thought, Get a grip Y/N.
You finished unpacking all your stuff. You wiped the thin layer of sweat off your forehead with the back of your hand.
You were bored out of your mind, you needed something to do, anything. Then you wondered if you could maybe go around the neighborhood. Maybe meet some people or find somewhere fun to go.
"Hey, Ma?" You asked.
"Yes?" She replied.
"Can I explore the neighborhood?"
"Sure just be back before dinner, be careful."
You nodded and started walking on the sidewalk.
Maybe this place has some hidden gems. You thought.
You saw the boy again in the corner of your eye. He was hiding behind a tree, looking at you. So he was real.
You decided to play with him for a bit.
You only looked forward, pretending not to notice him.
As you walked farther, you saw that he quickly moved trees. He was still staring at you.
You quickly spun around, catching him off guard.
He yelped and tried hiding, but you already saw him.
He had long, jet black hair that fell over his forehead. His eyes were like puppy dog eyes. He had tan skin and he wore denim on denim.
You noticed he had a couple scars on his cheek.
But he didn't look that threatening.
You decided to go talk to him.
"Couldn't help but notice you staring at me." You chuckled, "Is there something you want?"
He slowly came out from the tree, shoving his hands in his pockets and looking down.
He looked like the shy type.
"It's okay, I won't bite." You said.
"You're new around here." He quietly said.
You walked a little closer to hear him better.
"My house is right next to yours." He continued, "I was walking back home and I saw you. I kind of wanted to say hello but I was a little scared. I'm sorry for staring, I'm not a peeping Tom."
"Naw, it's okay." You chuckled, "So, I guess you and I are neighbors."
He nodded and smiled a bit.
You reached your hand out to him.
"I'm Y/N." You said, kindly, "What's yours?"
"Johnny." He said, almost in a mumble as he took your hand and shook it.
He finally looked at your eyes and you looked at his.
His eyes were big, like an innocent puppy's.
You couldn't help but stare at them for a while. They looked so captivating.
Finally, you stopped staring.
"Well, it was nice meeting you, Johnny." You smiled warmly.
"Yeah, you too Y/N." He nervously replied, scratching the back of his head.
You decided to ditch exploring and go back home, you were getting tired and it was starting to get a little late.
You picked at your food at dinner, daydreaming about Johnny. You just met him but you felt something for him.
"Y/N." You heard your dad say.
"Huh, what?" You asked, snapping back into reality.
"I told you if you found anything nice, you didn't respond."
"Oh," You said, then you smiled, "No, I didn't find anything."
Your dad shrugged.
That night, you climbed into bed, squealing. In all your days, you've never met a really nice boy like him. Not to mention, he was way hotter than most of the guys back home.
Maybe you were going to like this place.
You slowly drifted off into sleep.
You heard screaming from outside, waking you up. You opened your eyes and jolted up. It was still nighttime.
You heard another scream. It sounded like it came from next door.
You looked out your window and saw that the screaming came from Johnny.
He was crawling away on the grass in pain. There was a woman there, she looked like his mother.
She had a belt in her hand. She was yelling at Johnny.
She hit him hard with the belt, making a loud CRACK as it hit Johnny's back. You let out gasp as Johnny cried out in pain.
You quickly bolted out your room and out of the house. You didn't even think. You just ran out with no shoes on.
You quickly reached him and shielded him.
"Stop!" You yelled.
"Who the hell are you?" She asked, pointing the belt at you and furrowing her eyebrows.
"Someone who's saving a poor boy from a fucking witch!" You yelled back.
She was taken back from you, giving you time to run with Johnny before she would crack the belt on you.
You quickly picked Johnny up and helped him to your house.
Johnny plopped down onto your couch, groaning in pain as he held his stomach.
He had a couple cuts on his face. A drop of blood flowed from one of them.
You lifted up his shirt and it revealed swollen, red slashes from the belt.
"Oh my- Johnny." You gasped at the sight, but you remained calm.
You ran to go get bandages and an ice pack.
You put the ice pack on his stomach and put the bandages on his face.
He watched you the entire time.
"Johnny, why was she doing that to you? No mother should ever do that to her child." You asked.
"I didn't do anything." He replied, "I never do anything to make them mad, but they always are. I hate it."
Tears started to form in his eyes. You wiped them away with your thumb and hugged him.
You felt really bad for him. You've only met him today but you could tell that he was sweeter than cotton candy, and to figure out that he was living with abusive parents.
"I'm so sorry." You said, sympathetically.
Johnny started to hug you back. He only knew you for less than a day. But here you were, helping and cleaning up a stranger in need without hesitation.
Johnny started to grow feelings for you. He smiled into your shoulder. He was grateful and delighted to be with you.
