The Seven Medallions

Episode Six

Pipers POV

We were finally up in space.

Tails had figured out how to put his Fire medallion into the ships tracking system to locate the remaining five medallions.
"Whenever I get a reading on here," he pointed a monitor out to me, "then we know that there is a medallion on the planet closest to us." He turned to face me. "That way we can land and start to search for it with Clair's medallion. That one is not wired up to the Blue Typhoon."
"Tails, you are a genius!" I breathed, looking at the monitor.
Tails blushed. "I'm no genius."

Suddenly Amy came into the room.
"Tails we need your help!" Amy yelled.
"It's an emergency."
"What is it Amy?" Tails said worriedly.
"Just follow me! QUICK!"

Tails and I followed Amy down the corridor. I was worried. Did Eggman attack the ship without us noticing? Did a meteor hit the ship? Tails looked just as worried as I was.

We ran into a room with a big tennis court. The others were sitting on a bench, clearly waiting for Tails to arrive.
"Tails! Thank goodness you are here!" Sonic said, standing up.
"What's the problem??" Tails asked. "Did the engines blow?"
"No, nothing like that," Knuckles said.
"It seems the Tennis Pro 1300 broke." Shadow grumbled.
"We can't continue our game without it," Clair said, pointing across the court.

The machine they were obviously talking about looked like it was supposed to shoot out tennis balls across the court for someone to hit. It was smoking and was clearly broken.
Tails looked at the machine, then at the others.
Back at the machine.
Back to the others.

His face turned an ugly shade of red as he stormed over to the Tennis Pro 1300, wrench in hand. He looked steamed as he fixed the machine. I felt bad for him. It seemed most of the time his work was taken for granted.

The Tennis Pro 1300 made a loud noise and started to shoot out balls across the court.
"Hey, thanks bro," Sonic said. "Wanna join?"
"Some emergency," Tails mumbled as he walked out of the room.
"Well what about you Pip?" Sonic yelled out to me. "Do you want to pick up a racket and join?"
I looked over at Tails walking down the hall and then back at Sonic.
"No thanks. Maybe later."
"Suit yourself." Sonic went back to hitting tennis balls with his racket with the others.

"Hey Tails, are you ok?" I said, rushing to catch up to him.
Tails was silent. He seemed to be thinking.
"You know," I said. "They really do appreciate everything you do. Its just hard to express it sometimes."
Tails looked up at me. He looked sad.
"I know," he said. "But it feels like they mostly just take me for granted."
He kicked at the ground.
"Don't be like that, Tails. They appreciate you more than you know. Especially Sonic."
I smiled. "If it helps, I think you are great."
Tails grinned. "Thanks Piper. It does."

Suddenly alarms rang out loud and clear: WARNING. WARNING. BREAK IN CONTINUUM. WARNING.

A look of panic took over Tails face. He grabbed my hand and started flying as fast as he could back to the main deck of the Blue Typhoon.
"TAILS! WHATS GOING ON?" I shouted over the alarm.
"ITS A BREAK IN THE CONTINUUM!!!" He responded, his eyes wide.
We arrived at the main deck and Tails let go of my hand. He took off to the main computer and controls and started typing and steering furiously.
"What do you need me to do??" I asked.
He didn't respond.

"Hey bud? What's going on??" Sonic suddenly came into the room, followed by Clair, Amy, Knuckles, and Shadow.
"It's a break in the space-time continuum." I said, running over to him.
"Everybody get into the stronghold at the back of the ship," Tails said.
"But we want to help!" Amy said over the still ringing alarm.
"No way," Tails said. "Besides, there is nothing you CAN do."
He turned to Sonic.
"I am going to try to steer us away from the break so we don't get dragged in," he said to him. "If we do get dragged in, there is no way in telling where, or when, we will crash."
"That sounds bad," Knuckles said.
"It will take a lot of time, time we don't have, to repair the ship and get back to this time period."

Tails stood up. "Everyone get into the hold to stay safe if we crash. THATS THE CAPTAINS ORDER."
"yessir," Sonic said.

We all started running down the halls to the safe hold at the back of the ship. It was created to protect us if we were ever to crash. I hated leaving Tails behind, especially in this situation. I wanted to do all I could.

"Everyone get in," Sonic said when we got to the safe room. Everyone piled in, including Sonic. He turned to me, "Piper, cmon! Get in!"
"Sonic, I want to help. Let me go back up to help Tails."
"He won't be happy with you. It was his orders to come down here. There is nothing that we can do, anyway."
"Please, it's my choice. I want to go back up."
Sonic sighed. "Ok, Piper, just be careful."
I smiled. "You know me."

I ran back up to the main deck and burst through the doors just as more alarms started to sound. Tails looked worried as he tried to steer the ship away.
"Tails!"
He turned to look at me.
"Piper! What are you doing?!"
I ran up to him. "I've come to help."
Tails looked at me with big eyes. He looked stressed.

"Ok. I have a plan, but you need to follow my directions."
"What do I need to do?"
Tails pointed to two cables that led through the wall to the main engine.
"Grab those cables, and when I give the signal, connect them. That will transfer all energy to our shield system, protecting us when we crash."
I looked at him. "you mean-"
"There is no way we can avoid the rip in the continuum." he said sadly.
My eyes turned dark green. I nodded and grabbed the two cables and got ready to connect them.
"On my signal, ok?"
"Yep."

I looked at the two wires and noticed that one of them was sparking like mad. Suddenly I realized what that was going to do to me. If I connected those cables, all electricity and power would flow though them. But the one cable was cut.
If I hold them while they are connected, I thought, then that thing is going to electrocute me, with it.
I looked at Tails. I couldn't tell him. That would ruin the plan. After all, the power would still flow to the shield system, it just would go through me first.

I knew what I had to do.

More alarms started to ring out as we inched closer to the rip. I could feel the gravity shifting as the Blue Typhoon was pulled into it.
"NOW?" I asked, trying to reach Tails over the loud jarring of the alarms.
"NOT YET!" He yelled.
The lights started to flicker as I felt the ship tilting into the pull of the continuum.
"TAILS!!!!!" I yelled, starting to feel my eyes change to grey, showing my fear.
"ALMOST!!"
The lights went completely out as I felt the gravity press down on us. It felt as a 100 ton weight was slowly crushing me. I could barely breathe as a bright light flashed through the entire ship, coming from the world on the other side of the rip.
"SERIOUSLY???!?" I yelled out to Tails.
"NOW!!!!!!" He shouted.
I braced myself and slammed the cables together.

Nothing could prepare me for the extremity of pain I felt.

I screamed at the top of my lungs as I felt a surge of electricity flow through my veins. My blood felt as if it was boiling. It bit at every nerve as I held the cables together with everything I had left.

I could feel Tails' gaze upon me.
"PIPER!"
I could feel the ship start to crash into the new world we had just arrived upon.
And then I felt nothing. 🌟

Authors note: I'm sorry that this was longer to post but I guess it is long enough...
