The Seven Medallions

Episode Five

Pipers POV
"I still don't get it," Sonic said to Jet the Hawk. "How did you guys discover the box with the fire medallion inside?"
"I told you already! It was an anonymous tip! We were in a pub when this sketchy character came up and gave us the whereabouts of some ancient treasure."
"We had no idea what was inside," Wave said. "But we had to get our hands on it before anyone else heard the news."
"Yeah, before anyone else heard," Storm chirped.
"And I don't see why would give it to you," Jet said. "After all, finders keepers."
"What's so special about it anyway?" Wave asked.

We were all back on the Blue Typhoon in the main deck. The Babylon Rouges were arguing with us because we asked for the Fire Medallion. They did not want to give up what they worked so hard for, not even for the fate of the universe.

"It is one of the seven Elemental Medallions," Tails responded, flying over with a book. He showed them the chapter on the ancient royal amulets. "We need to find them all before Eggman does, or else we are all doomed."
"If you are not going to give it to us," Shadow growled, forming a fist with his hands, "then we will simply take it from you."
Clair grabbed Shadow's hand soothingly.
"Let's not resort to violence, Shadow," she whispered. He seemed to ease his tension a bit at her touch.
"We are not just going to give it to you!" Wave yelled. "We worked hard to earn it!"
"You mean steal it?" Amy said, getting up in Wave's face.
"As we said, finders keepers," Jet mocked. He picked up the fire medallion and flipped it in his hands.

You could see the power flowing through the ancient relic. It's ribbon was blood red, and its center held a single flame, carved out of the metal. Sparks nearly flew in the air surrounding the precious amulet.

"Be careful with that!" I said. "And don't put it on!"
"Why not?" Storm said, crossing his arms.
"Whoever puts on the medallion gains its powers," Tails said, pointing to the book. "Whatever you touch will melt and burn."
"Yikes!" Jet said, and put the medallion in the box it came from. He eased up and crossed his arms. "Well we can still sell it for cash. I can't even imagine how much that baby will sell for. Its gotta be worth more than gold!!"

Tails typed on his main computer and then turned to Jet.
"Actually, the medallion is worthless."
"What?" Jet asked. "How?!"
"It is made out of metal. Just metal. And no one will ever buy it for power. Who would want anything they touch to melt or burn?" Tails asked, confronting Jet. "The box it came from is worth WAY more than the amulet." Tails smirked at me.

Jet scratched his beak in thought.
"You know, we can buy it from you," Sonic said. He snickered.
"Really?" Jet said, surprised.
"Yeah!" I said, catching on with Tails' plan. My eyes turned a dark pink. "Let us take that dangerous item off your hands!"
"I dono, Jet," Wave said uncertainly. "I think they are trying to juke us."
"No way!" Amy said. "We just don't want anyone to get hurt!"
"We don't?" Knuckles asked Amy. Shadow kicked him in the shin. "Oh-Oh yeah! We don't!"
"Come on, we will let you name the price!" Tails said
"We will??" Sonic said, knowing it was coming from his pocket. Tails shot a glance at him.
Jet smiled.

"I can't believe they fell for that!" Tails smiled. "They aren't the smartest crayons in the box, are they?"
Sonic sighed. "Meanwhile, I lost 5,000 smackers." He pointed to Tails. "You owe me. Big time."
"Just put it on my tab!" Tails laughed.
The Babylon Rouges had just taken off with their cash and their box, leaving us with the medallion.
"I'm just glad we have only 5 more to go," I said, picking up the fire medallion.

"Hey, don't you think we should assign medals?" Clair said, twiddling her thumbs in thought.
"What do you mean?" Knuckles said.

"Well, there are seven medallions, and seven of us."
"Your point?" Shadow said.
"Well, I just thought that since I have my Ice Medal, someone else can guard the Fire Medal, and so on and so forth."
"So, we each keep track of our assigned amulet?" Amy asked.
"I like it!" Sonic smiled at Clair. "Good thinking!"
Clair blushed.

"So who wants this one?" I asked, holding up the red amulet.

Everyone was silent. No one moved or wanted the fire medal. Suddenly Tails stood up.
"If no one else wants it, then I'll take care of it."
"Ok!" I smiled and handed the Fire medallion to Tails. "Tails will guard the Fire Medallion!"
"Only five more to go!" Amy said.
Everyone was cheering when I looked over at Shadow. He seemed sad, somehow. My eyes turned a dark shade of green. Something was up with Shadow, but what? And up came the big question that lingered in the back of my mind, always bothering me: Could we trust the black hedgehog? 🌟
