Pipers POV
We arrived at the island.
Sonic lead the team, scouting ahead to make sure all was clear. Shadow, Clair, and I headed up the rear with Blaze and Marine in the middle. I jumped up every so often just to scout up ahead. My powers were very useful in the jungle branches and roots. Speed was no help, for every time Sonic tried to run, he would trip over some root. He would then curse and continue walking.
"I can't STAND going this SSLLOOOWWWWWWW." He whined, dragging his feet. "HOW can you people live??"
Shadow snorted. "Stop complaining, faker." He swatted at a mosquito flying around his quills. "Whining won't bring us any closer to the water medallion, now will it?"Sonic stopped and turned around, clearly on edge. "You want to say that to my face, Shad?"
Shadow growled. "It would be my pleasure." he clenched his teeth. "Whining. Wont. Bring. Us-"
"Ok you too." Blaze got in between the two hedgehogs and pushed them apart. "Now is not the time to pick a fight."Sonic glared at Shadow. "She's right. We'd better get a move on. Time is wasting." He turned and continued walking.
Marine turned to me. "Is that bloke always like that now?" She whispered while pointing to Sonic.
"Not usually," I whispered back. "I think he's just a little stressed out. This mission is a lot to handle."Shadow was steamed. He seemed like he was about to burst with anger. I looked over at him and whispered to Marine again.
"Shadow isn't like this either. He seems really upset about something." I glanced over at the black hedgehog in dismay. "Something is, just, off."Suddenly, Shadow's ears perked. He hid his odd bracelet with his free hand and, when he thought no one was looking, he slipped into the trees beside us.
I gasped as I saw him take off. "What on möbius?"Clair noticed his sudden disappearance as well and slipped on after him, her face showing concern.
"Oh great. Now I have to go too." I made sure the others were not watching as I jumped into the trees and chased off after Clair and Shadow.
I jumped through vines and roots as I followed the two runaways. Shadow, mysterious as ever, was hiding something. And I needed to figure out what that was.
I leaped through a hollow log as I came across Clair, who was completely out of breath. She was leaned up against a tree, breathing heavily."Clair!" I gasped. "Where is Shadow?"
"I.. don't know..." she wheezed. "He was... too... too fast." She pointed past a few trees beside us. "But I did.. see.. him go.... that way...."
"Great. Lets go." I grabbed Clair and super jumped my way past those trees and found myself in a clearing surrounded by trees. Suddenly I heard a twig snap and a sound of frustration. I hid behind a bush with Clair next to me as I peeked out to see what it was.Shadow growled as he closed a video chat with the metallic colored bracelet he wore along with the inhibitor rings. "Shoot." I whispered to Clair. "We missed his little chat." Clair nodded and stood up. I tried to pull her down again, but I winced at the cold touch of her arm and pulled back. Shadow had seen us.
"What- WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING HERE??" He shouted, hiding the bracelet behind his back.
"We should be asking you the same thing," Clair said, pulling me up with her. I cried out at the freezing pain in my arm, but Clair took no notice.
"Who were you talking to just now?" She asked.Shadow snorted. "None of your business. Just an old friend. Wanted a chat." He glared at us. "So you did not hear our conversation?"
"N-no," Clair sighed. "We were hoping you could tell us that."
"Well I'm sorry to disappoint." He sighed. "I promise, it was nothing of importance. I just did not want to further anger our 'leader' with unnecessary conversation, so I ducked out." He growled at the thought of Sonic.
I stared at Shadow, suspicion increasing. "Why should I belie-"
Clair grabbed my hand.
I looked at her, not mentioning my hand being frozen off by hers. Besides, if I had said something, she wouldn't have noticed. She was deep in concentration. She was staring hard at Shadow. He looked uncomfortable in her gaze, almost like he felt unworthy. She then broke her gaze and looked at me.
"I feel like I can believe him." She said, staring back at Shadow. "I trust him."Shadow stared at Clair and I too. I still didn't quite believe Shadow's tale, but if Clair trusted him, I would too.
Suddenly, Clair clenched her Ice Medallion and gasped.
"What is it Clair?" Shadow asked, drawing near. "What's wrong?"
My ears twitched in excitement and my eyes turned a hopeful shade of mint as I saw the familiar glow shine through her fingers.
"THE MEDALLION OF THE SEA!" I yelled. 🌟Authors note- I want to apologize to all my readers. I realize that I've been off for a very very long time. And I apologize. School was very rough but now I'm on spring break so I'll be able to do more. Again I apologize. I am so so sorry😂😂 love you all!
