Tails POV

All was silent in my workshop. A lamp sitting on my desk was turned on. Behind a huge pile of books and ancient texts sat us, silent as usual.
I looked over at Piper. She was scribbling away at a piece of notebook, taking notes from the medallions ancient text book. Her pen moved furiously as she stared at the book.
Her eyes were dark green as she concentrated on copying the runes and ancient languages for us to cypher.
Although alert, her eyes sagged with sleep deprivation.  It was 2am, and everyone was asleep.
Everyone but us.

This can't keep on, I thought silently to myself. This silence between us was getting ridiculous.

We still had one medallion left to find, the Light Medallion. We dug and dug at the ancient manuscripts, but nothing added up. We had no clues to the location of the last amulet.
It had been silence between Piper and I since we fought on the mountain. I couldn't help but feel mad at the time, but now...
I looked at her softly.
I felt guilty. I had hurt her, and I knew it. I couldn't help but feel that she felt the same way.
I took a deep breath. "Piper.."
She looked up suddenly, as if she had just been shot. Her face was filled with surprise; I watched her dark eyes grow light to a minty green color.
"Tails?" She asked, her surprised expression now mixed with fear.
I smiled lightly as a memory came to mind.
"Do you remember when we were up in the Typhoon, and we both were up late because we couldn't sleep?"
She looked down. "Yes. I remember."
"We finished off a whole bowl of mints, and you made us French toast."
She giggled softly. Piper looked up at me, her eyes turning a light blue.
"And then we just talked. Do you remember all that?" I looked at her.
She met my eyes. "Yeah, that was fun."
My smile grew. "And remember that time you calmed me down after I got mad at Sonic for falsely signaling an emergency? He just wanted me to fix a tennis machine!"
Piper suddenly burst out into laughter. "Yeah. That was the first time I really saw you upset."
I rolled my chair over to Piper's area of the desk.
"But do you remember the time that I fell into the waterfall, and you dove in to save me? With out even knowing my name?"
She looked into my eyes. "I will never forget that, Tails."
I grinned. "Me either. Now isn't this better? I miss those times that we weren't mute to each other. I say we forget the whole 'mountain incident' ever occurred. Is that ok Piper?"
Pipers eyes suddenly grew dark. They changed from light blue to a color I didn't recognize.
They were purple.
She smiled, not noticing the gawking stare I had plastered on my face. "Ok Tails. I would like that."
I shook myself out of it and smiled. She yawned.
"You should get some sleep, you know. It's really late." I noted, pointing to the clock beside us.
Her eyes shot open and jolted awake. She shook her head.
"No, I'm not tired. I'll just skip sleeping tonight."
The purple circles under her eyes matched her eye color.
"I don't know, Piper. You look exhausted."
She rubbed her eyes. "No, I don't want to go to bed."
I eyed her with suspicion.
She sighed. "I'm fine, really." She slid closer to me and plopped her text book down. "I'll keep up the research.. You can hit the hay if you want to."
I yawned sheepishly. "I think I might." I hopped up from my chair and walked to my room across the hall. "Please don't stay up too much longer, ok? We can search for the light medallion tomorrow. It can wait."
She sighed. "Ok, I won't." Her eyes quickly changed back to light blue. "Night, Tails."
"Goodnight Pip."

***

I woke up to the sound of screaming.
My eyes fluttered open as the shriek continued, taking no time to breathe.
Adrenaline pumped through me as I flew out of bed and ran down the hall to the screams origin.
My face grew pained as I saw Piper, still sitting slumped over in my desk, scream bloody murder as she tossed and turned in her sleep.
"Piper! I shouted as I sprinted over to her. I shook her. "Piper, wake up! It's only a dream!"
"No!" Piper screamed as her face scrunched up in pain. "NO!"
"PIPER!"
Piper's eyes flew open and her screaming stopped. She hyperventilated while staring into my eyes.
"Don't worry," I said, trying to calm her. "You were sleeping. It was only a dream."
She then did the complete unexpected. Tears flooded her eyes as she sniffled softly.
Obviously still frightened by the experience, she shook wildly, wrapping her arms around herself as she sobbed.
I didn't know what to do. Usually there was Amy to cheer up a crying girl, or Cream when Amy grew upset. Us guys would get uncomfortable and leave the room, but
Sonic would stay to cheer the girl up.

He was so smooth. How could I compare?

There were no girls to help me out in this situation (no Sonic, either), so I did what I do best. I referred to the text.

I remembered what I had once read in a book Amy once gave me on women's feelings. (Don't judge me, I was curious.)

Chapter one: Hugs are the best medicine.
I gulped.

Slowly I wrapped my arms around her, bringing her tightly to me. I squeezed, trying to give her a sense of security. The books said that security is what every woman needs.  Unfortunately, I was only an amateur when it came to "real-life experience," and I felt the hug was awkward.
Suddenly Piper threw her arms around me. She buried her face into my fur and sobbed. I hugged her tighter, her little frame fitting snugly in my arms.
We sat like this, next to my desk, for a while. When I opened my eyes, I realized that she stopped crying. She was breathing calmly and slowly.
She fell asleep in my arms. I blushed suddenly, realizing the situation.
Not wanting to wake her, I slowly and gently took her into my arms. I twirled my tails and we moved steadily through the air. Silently, I opened the door to her room down the hall and placed her in her bed. I pulled a blanket over her sleeping frame and placed her head on the pillow. She mumbled something in her sleep, and I tried to stifle my giggle.

Slowly I retreated from the room and closed the door. Yawning, I scratched my ear and walked to my room across the hall. I shut the door, walked to my bed, and plopped down onto the mattress, eyes closing instantly. I felt my mouth formulate a smile as I fell asleep.
No book told me how to do that, and I don't think my brother ever calmed a girl like that before. I had.

Beat that, Sonic.🌟

Authors note: aw I'm sorry but it had to be done. (At least no one commented it against it when I asked so lolololol)
Q- what do you think is up with Pipers dreams? Should she stay asleep to find out what lies beyond the vortex? If she does, what happens if she never wakes up?

Also, did you like this chapter? Should I do more like this?
Love you! Bieee xxxxx
