Piper's POV

Five medallions.
Five medallions with two to go.
I couldn't believe it. We had come so far so fast. It seemed like yesterday when we went up in the Blue Typhoon to look for the medallions, but in reality, that was months ago.

We had no trace of the Dark or light medallions. There was nothing. We looked for hours upon hours on the ancient textbook for clues, signs, anything that clicked on a lightbulb, but there was nothing.  Tails tried to track them to pinpoint a location, but there was no activity from them whatsoever. It was like trying to find a needle in a haystack that was as tall as a skyscraper and longer than a football field.

Tails and I haven't spoken much since the argument we had on the Möbius Mountains. I don't blame him for not wanting to talk to me. I deserved any treatment I got from him with the way I treated him that day. I was ashamed that I never told anyone where Sonic and I were going.
Sonic was himself. He didn't seem bothered by the fact we gave everyone a heart attack. I did catch him staring at me a couple of times. I sensed that he didn't like the cold air between me and Tails.
Although he still had on a slight cast, he couldn't stay still. Amy had to strap him down so he wouldn't run and bust his ankle even more. Because of that, he was a ball of energy.
"HOW MUCH LONGERRRRR"
Amy groaned. "Another week, Sonic."
Sonic joined her. "I can't wait that long!!"
"Well you are gonna have to," Clair said, serving him a sandwich. "There is no point in trying to run now. You'll just hurt yourself more."

My dreams are stronger than before. Whoever was trying to contact me was getting impatient. I found myself dozing off at different points in the day because I can hardly fall asleep anymore, afraid that I'll never wake up. I usually just drank coffee to keep me awake.

"Piper, have you come any closer to discovering the location of the remaining medallions?" Clair asked, walking over to me.
"No. I was up all night last night digging for clues." I sipped my expresso. "I didn't find anything."
"Tails?" Knuckles asked, glancing over to the yellow fox sitting behind a giant computer screen.
"Nothing here either. However, I did have an idea."
Tails rolled his chair over to a rack of maps and took one off the shelve.
"There is one area of Möbius where my tracers and gadgets can't pick up signals from." He pointed to a darker region of the map. "There are really powerful magnetic fields here, and they cut off the signals of my computers."  He circled the area with red marker and plotted a path from where we were located. "It's possible that the remaining medallions are located here."
"Don't count on that, sugarplum."
Startled, we all turned around.
"How are you all this fine evening?" Rouge said, flying through the door and landing on the table.
"Rouge?" Knuckles asked, blushing slightly. ((Sorry I had too:)) "What are you doing here?"
Rouge chuckled. "Well a little birdy told me that you guys were looking for some medallions."
Sonic frowned. "Eggman sent you here, didn't he?"
Rouge touched her nose and pointed to Sonic. "That's the million dollar question, hedgehog."
"Well did he?" I asked, squinting.
Rouge laughed. "Technically, no.  He did pay me to find the remaining medallions though."

Shadow flinched and huffed under his breath. It looked like no one saw it, but I did. I played it off as nothing.

"You dirty, rotten," Amy growled, swinging her hammer.
"Hold your horses, Pinky." Rouge sighed, holding her hand up. "Before you try to hurt me, let me explain.
Eggy came to me the other day and asked me to find the remaining medallions because his other...worker... apparently doesn't take orders too well. He payed me too, promised me a chaos emerald if I got them by sundown. Being the amazing jewel hunter I am, I found one easily. The other.." She paused.
"Well anyway, I was on my way back to Eggy when I discovered that all the chaos emeralds were in YOUR safe keeping. Naturally, I was furious." She slid her glove hand behind her and pulled out a box.
"I'm not usually this nice, but I would rather you have it than Eggy. It's of no use to me anyway." She tossed the box to me carelessly.
She hopped off the table and spread her wings, ready to take off.
"By the way Foxy, you were right. It was in the Dark Region." She mumbled under her breath "An idiot would be able to connect the two." She rolled her eyes as our faces showed us making the connection.
"Chao, loves."
She flew off, leaving us dumbfounded.

I slowly opened the box, partly expecting a bomb inside.
Shadow moved closer as I took out the contents of the package.
It was stunning. The stone in the middle was royal purple, and it glistened in the setting sun. The rim surrounding it was matte black, and the ribbon was darker than night. The crescent on the stone was alike in color of the rim, but it was sparkly, as if made out of dark crystal.
Shadow took it from me and let it swing from his hand.
"The Dark Medallion," he said. Then he turned and walked out of the room. "Only one to go." 🌟

Authors note: olala how did you like this chapter?!? Only one medallion to go!
Q- what did you think of Rouge as a character in general?
A- I personally love her. I think she adds the sassiness and I love it. (I totally ship knuckles and her though:)))
