The Seven Medallions

Episode 36

Sonics POV
I watched in awe as Enerjak was pulled out of Eggman's body and sucked into the medallion around Piper's neck. The ability to reverse ancient spells..
Everything we read in the book suddenly made sense.
Piper's face grew strained as all that power packed into her tiny frame.
"Piper!!"
Then, the light was gone.
Both Piper and Eggman fell to Mobius's ground.
My quick reflexes kicked in and I flew to catch Piper in the air, still in my super form.  Then, I dove after Eggman.
He wasn't as easy to carry.
"Gah!!" I let out a groan as I flew to the ground with his collar grasped in my hand.
"You, sir, need to lay off the hot pockets."
I heard a grumbled response and chuckled.

I laid Eggy on the ground and carried Piper in my arms. She looked peaceful.
My heart stopped.
She wasn't breathing.
Was I too slow once again?

"PIPER!!" Clair screamed and ran towards us.
I was surprised. Yelling was so unlike her.
Finally the shock of Piper in my arms dripped away and realization hit.
"Clair! Help!"
Everyone quickly ran over to us. I laid the limp Piper on the ground.
"What happened??? Why is she like this?" Knuckles asked, eyes wide with worry.
"It's the prophesy..."
Tails walked over to her and sat on the ground.
"No one can withstand the medallions power. Death comes to any who put on the amulet."
We all went silent.
I could hear Tails repeating over and over, "No, not again. God please, not again."
Images of Cosmo flashed in my mind.

"We need to do something!!" Amy called out. "She can't be..."
Shadow closed his eyes and lowered his head.
Clair broke down in sobs and I sat on my heels, not believing the sight before me.

The rain plummeted down, pelting us. We were all soaked and shivering. I heard footsteps behind me.
"That's a shame," a voice rang out. "She was a good fighter. And I'm guessing by the looks of despair and disbelief on all of your faces, a good friend."
Eggman wiped the drops of rain from his spectacles and stroked his mustache in thought.
"She saved us all," I said slowly. "Even you, Eggman."
Everything was silent except for the sobs of Clair and Amy.
Then, something I cannot explain occurred. I don't know why, or how, but it happened.

Pipers POV

...
It was dark.
Wait, why am I not dead?
Maybe this was heaven.
I opened my eyes and recognized the scene.
It was the scene from my dream, except.. Not.
The once emerald green grass was replaced with yellow, dry weeds. The pure blue sky I was accustomed to was a dark red. The vastness, however, was the same. The horizon stretched as far as I could see.
I tried to sit up, but my head ached.
Why was I here? Was this actually heaven? Or did I end up in hell?
"No, neither."
Startled, I turned my head.
Tikal stood in front of me, eyes sad but full of hope. Her brilliant gold and blue dress was torn.
"Tikal?" I blinked. I wanted to ask so many questions, but all I could muster was:
"What happened here?"
Tikal chuckled. "Our race was destroyed. Genocide occurred."
I swallowed.
"Why am I here, Tikal?"
She grew silent.
"You were going to die out there. Did you know that?"
I nodded my head slowly.
"And yet, you still followed through with it? You wanted to save your friends' lives rather than your own?"
My throat tickled. "O-of course."
Tikal smiled. "Good answer. Now I may rightfully give you your life back."
I felt faint. "Y-you what??"
"Remember how I told you to guard this medallion with your very life?"
I nodded.
"In that moment, I gave you my blessing. You became the Chosen One."
I remembered the old book saying something about that.
I must have looked confused, because Tikal explained. "If a new guardian is needed, which in this case, one was, the old guardian may give his or her blessing to a new guardian. The Chosen One may bear the medallion's magic whenever they please by simply putting on and taking off the amulet. They do not suffer physical consequence from the medallion. Therefore..." Tikal smiled.
"I ... I'm not dead?" I grinned.
"Simply asleep, and now, you must wake up."
With a snap of her fingers, Tikal and her destroyed world disappeared, and I was swept up into the darkness.

My eyelids felt heavy as I pried them open.
