The Seven Medallions

Episode 34

Sonics POV
We were exhausted.
We looked everywhere for Enerjak, but couldn't find him. I was starting to get anxious. What if something is wrong? What if this is a trap? Something is not right.
"If I were an immortal being stuck in an eggies body," I mumbled put loud, "where would I be?"
"Probably in the kitchen," Knuckles added. I chuckled.
"Would you two shut up?" Amy rolled her eyes and brushed her quills. "Piper said that Enerjak was coming for us, so I think we should just shut up and wait."
"For once, I agree with you, Amy." Clair walked over to me, the ground beneath her splintering in the cold.
"Sonic, we are wasting valuable energy and resources stumbling around aimlessly. If Piper said that he was coming, maybe we should wait for him."
"No way," I said, shaking my head. "Enerjak's first move will be to get rid of us so he can easily conquer Möbius without hassle.  We cannot let him surprise us. We need to find him before he finds us."
Everyone went silent again.
Thinking that it was growing awkward, I called Tails up on my communicator.
"Hey, bud. Any sign of him from above?"
Tails' voice rang back to me. The picture was staticky, like we had a bad connection.
"Nothing too noticeable yet, but I do spot a ship in the field where we had Espio's birthday party. I think we should check it out."
I remembered that day. We all went to the field to surprise Espio for his birthday, but were attacked by Eggman instead. That was the day Clair was kidnapped.
"Cool, Tails. I think I still have the coordinates from the day we had the party. We will meet you there."
"Roger," Tails responded. "Over and out."
I shut off the communicator and searched for the coordinates.
"Ok gang. Tails said that there is some sort of ship-like figure in a big field. It sounds promising.  We are going to meet him there."
Clair shivered.
"Sound good," Knuckles said.
I took a breath. "Are we ready?"
Knuckles pounded his fists. "I sure am."
"I've been ready," Amy smirked. "Let's kick some butt!"
"I'll be ready," Clair smiled, creating a few snowflakes in midair.
My emerald eyes sparkled in the sunset.
"Then let's DO THIS!!"

We arrived at our destination. The field glowed in the setting sun, but not beautifully. The colors had an eerie tone to them as they danced on the grass.
Everyone had on a brave face. I knew that they didn't feel brave like we normally do, and that frightened me.
For once, I was questioning my speed, second guessing my endurance. I was doubting my ability to win this battle.
I had fought Enerjak before, but it was long ago. Even then, we barely defeated him. Now, he is in a more powerful vessel with not only his magic and powers, but Eggman's cunning and machines (even though half of them don't work).
Would we be able to pull through? How would this battle end?
I looked to my right. Amy, Knuckles, and Clair stood strong, stone faced.
Above me I could hear my little brother Tails flying his airplane.

We can do this.

I stared out at the dark figure slowly approaching us. Knuckles flinched as he crunched the leaves dead beneath his feet.
It was Eggman, but yet, it wasn't. The usual flare associated with Eggman was not there. The smirk he usually had plastered on his face was dead. And the fire in his eyes was not of passion.
It was of hate.

He didn't say a word, just stared at us. We stared back.
Finally the silence was broken by a voice that was not Eggman's.
"Hello, rat,"
I snarled.
"and company."
He smirked.
"As you may have noticed, Ivo is long gone. I have emerged from my cage within the medallions. But, because I don't have the seventh,"
He looked around.
"And because that Mink is nowhere to be found, I must destroy you before you can put me back in my own personal hell."
He snapped his fingers.
"My deepest condolences, friends. Goodbye."
At the sound of his snap, the ground suddenly broke beneath him. I fell to the ground as the earth trembled, followed by my friends.
Out of the soil came a huge metal cannon. It lifted Enerjak into the air. From the crevice, thousands of Eggman's badnicks came forth, heading towards us.
Shell shocked, we stared at the ever-growing cannon as it carried Enerjack higher and higher.
Reality suddenly smacked us in the face as we realized that we were being attacked.
"Amy! Take the ones to the right! Knuckles, to the left. Clair, middle."
"Right!" They all shouted.
The battle began.

The cannon fired left and right. Dodging constantly was exhausting, especially when you are fighting your way through thousands of machines. We were loosing stamina.
"Tails!" I called through my wrist watch.
"Is there any way you can shoot the cannon from up there?"
"I can try," Tails called out. "But in order to get a hit, I must move closer. You have to distract him."
"No problemo, bud. Just get in as close as possible."
I ended the chat and called out to Knuckles.
"Cover me! I have to distract Enerjak from Tails!"
Knuckles growled as he destroyed badnicks left and right.
"I-I can't! These guys have got me cornered!"
My face dropped. "Amy? Clair?"
Clair froze clumps of badnicks together as Amy smashed the ice, shattering the robots.
"Sorry, Sonic! There's no way!"
"Now what?" I squinted. I suppose I could just wing it like usual, but...

"Sonic. I've got your back."
Startled, I turned around.
"Shadow??"

The black hedgehog smirked in the ever-fading sun. He created a chaos spear and pointed it at a badnick coming up behind me. I ducked swiftly as he destroyed it with a single, solid motion.
"Like I said," Shadow grunted. "I've got your back. Now let's stop Enerjak once and for all."
I grinned and faced the tall cannon.
"Let's do this."
We ran along the outer edge of the forest, demolishing robots as we went.  My goal was to get the cannon facing me so Tails could easily come up from behind and destroy it. With the cannon destroyed, Enerjak would be more accessible and we wouldn't have to dodge so much, saving our energy.
"HEY JACK ASS!"
Slowly, the cannon twirled around and faced me and Shadow. It shot at us, missing.
"MISSED ME, HOT SHOT."
As Shadow destroyed more bots coming up behind us, I quickly messaged Tails.
Go in for the kill. He is totally obsessed w/ me rn.
I laughed and sent it, yelling out again.
"C'MON, E JAK! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? AN INVITATION?!"
I continued yelling as I saw Tails' plane swoop in, aiming at the cannon.
I held my breath in anticipation.

He fired.
He had perfect aim, as always.

The cannon blew up in a split second, causing a massive explosion.
Enerjak shouted angrily. "NO! YOU STUPID, VILE CREATURE!"
Suddenly, something happened that I could not have anticipated. I felt a drop in my chest. Something isn't right.
"Tails!" I shouted into my communicator. "Get out of there!"
I watched in horror as Enerjak created a ball of energy, similar to Shadow's power.
"TAILS!"
He threw it at the Tornado.
Amy screamed as the plane fell and crashed into the forest below.🌟
