Shadows POV
We have found four of the seven medallions.
The only ones left to find are the Air, Light, and Dark medals.
Only three left to go.
And then I must betray my friends to Eggman.
Either that or I lose the last piece of Maria.
That package was intended for me. I couldn't bear not knowing what was inside. It tore me apart, piece by piece. I had no other choice.

I couldn't stop thinking about what Clair had said to me.

"Everyone's fate depends on YOU."

My quills stood up when I thought about those last words spoken to me by Maria herself.
What angered me most was that no ones fate depended on me. Only Maria's, and because of me, she was gone. Forever.

"SHADOW! ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?!"
My wrist communicator pulled me out of my thoughts as I saw the video chat was still on.
"Yessir," I growled, showing my teeth.

"You CANNOT MAKE YOURSELF LOOK SUSPICIOUS," Eggman yelled, "OR YOU WILL NEVER SEE THAT PACKAGE AGAIN!" He pounded his fist on the table. "That mink friend of yours and that meddling hedgehog Sonic already have been questioning you. We cannot have this plan backfire. These medallions are going to bring me to victory against that blue blur once and for all." He looked sternly at the camera.
"I will not tolerate someone who cannot handle their assigned job. If you cannot take the heat, then I will bring in one of my drones."

I huffed.

"Like your brainless metal bots can do better than me." My eyes pierced into his blue spectacles. "I can do it. We only have three to go."
"Excellent," Eggman grinned slyly. "Contact me once all but one has yet to be found."
He leaned into the camera.
"Do not disappoint me, Shadow."
I forced a smile.
"I wouldn't dare."
And with that, the video ended. I could hear him on the other side of the screen, laughing. I clenched my fists in anger.

Pipers POV
All was silent. Everything was still.
Probably because it was in the middle of the night.
I twisted and turned in my sleep as my nightmare unfolded once more.

I stood in the brilliant light once again.
The voice beckoned me.
The vortex started to pull me in.
It was stronger, stronger than it had been before.
I tried to force myself awake, but I couldn't. I felt as if I couldn't breathe
And then, saved by the bell.

I heard a loud smash. I jolted awake, and found myself sitting safe in my bed in Tails' workshop.

I jumped out of my bed and tried to follow where I had heard the smash come from.
I found myself standing in front of the kitchen. Pots and pans were spilled everywhere. The cabinet where they were held was smashed to smithereens. Shadow stood in all the chaos, breathing heavily.

"What on Mobius happened in here??" I asked, starting to pick up the mess as quietly as possible.
"I got.. angry," Shadow mumbled, slowly helping me by sweeping up the wood chips that used to be a cabinet.
"Shadow..." I turned to him, staring hard. "What is going on with you?"
His red eyes pierced into mine. "Nothing is happening."
"I don't believe you."
"Why not? What do I have to hide?"
"You tell me."

Shadow closed his eyes and huffed. "Just leave me be."
I sighed in frustration.

We finished cleaning in silence. Shadow swept up the cabinet remains, and I picked up the rest of the pots and pans that were laying on the floor. It was an uncomfortable silence, one that pierced your ears yet made no noise.
Once we were finished Shadow looked up at me, nodded in thanks, and walked out.
It was strange, yet somehow I knew that he was grateful for my help.

I couldn't get back to sleep. I kept on thinking about what just happened. What had Shadow gotten so mad about? And why was he hiding things? What DID he have to hide?
Was I just being paranoid?
Or was something really up?
Suddenly I heard another crash.
You have got to be kidding me, I thought sternly.
I burst into the kitchen once more.
"Shadow, I swear, if that refrigerator is blasted to bits, I will kill-"
"PIPER! Shhh! Be quiet," Sonic spilled, "or you will wake the others!"
I shook my head confusedly. "Sonic? What are you doing?"
"Packing supplies," he whispered, stuffing hotdogs, buns, and chili into a backpack.
"For what, exactly?" I asked.
Sonic grinned and put a finger to my lips.
"Going up into the mountain, of course!"

Also, Tiger_Pelt235 I SWEAR your great debut is the next upcoming chapter! I just had to add something before your character could come in to the picture. Sorry for the wait!
Anyways, tell me in the comments below what you think will happen next. Was sonic planning to go up the mountain alone? Is piper going to join him, or is she going to get the others?
And what's going on with shadow? Is he really going to betray the whole team?
