Pipers POV

Tiny droplets of rain fell from the sky.
We all stood in defeat as we watched Enerjak laugh above us. He sneered and jeered at us, the fallen warriors.
We, bloodied, lowered our heads in sorrow as Enerjak pointed his machine at us, ready to fire.
And in that moment, ever so brief, in the pouring rain, I realized the truth. The battle was over. Our victory, lost.
We had lost.
He had won and destroyed us.

For good.

***

3 days earlier-

We had six of the medallions. Only one, the Light Medallion, was still out of our grasp. Tails and I, after our makeup, had searched and searched for any clues to where it may be. Sonic, Amy, and Knuckles went all over Möbius trying to find the impossible. They even went to Tails' old friend, Professor Pickle, an expert on Gaia manuscripts, for help. ((Watch Sonic Unleashed for more on PP))
It was nowhere to be found.

Clair has been quiet for some time now. I tried to get her to talk about it, but she just holds back her emotions behind an ice wall and stays silent.
Shadow has given us the impression that he will be taking care of the Dark Medallion, but is being more mysterious than ever. I don't know whether he can be trusted or not, but I don't think I have a choice. Even Sonic seems to tolerate him. After all, he's stuck around this long. It would be hard to make an accusation that cannot be proven. Still, my gut tells me that he is bad news, at least ever since he showed up that one day on the volleyball court.

The good old days. I sighed at the memory of the times we would simply ruin Eggy's schemes and then lounge in the sun.
Hopefully, when this is over, that will still be an option.

"Nothing," Sonic groaned as he plopped down on Tails' couch. "I found out jack squat about the Light Medallion."
"Same here," Amy said, falling down next to Sonic. "I hate to be pessimistic, but this is impossible!"
"There has got to be something.." Knuckles said, rubbing his temples. "Maybe, since the Chaos emeralds are connected.."
"I already explored that option," Tails said. He typed on his keypad. "I took the emeralds in my ship and flew all over trying to get some sort of reading. Nothing."
"And nothing from the other medallions?" Sonic asked, looking up hopefully.
"Nope," I said, hopping over much too enthusiastically. "My head has been buried in those readings all day. Nothing."

"Guys," Amy said, standing and stretching her legs. "I hate to say it, but we have to acknowledge the fact that the amulet may just be... gone. Maybe destroyed somehow."
"Unless we know for sure, we have to keep looking," Sonic sighed. "Eggman can't have any of the medallions. Not a single one."
Amy let out an exasperated sigh and flopped down again.
"There has GOT to be SOMETHING in the original manuscript," I said, digging through the pile that had developed on the desk. "You know, the book where we first read about the medallions?"
"There WAS, at least." Tails pulled up the book I was looking for and flipped to the last section.
Everyone gathered around as he pointed to there a page had been ripped out. "I discovered this last night. Someone tore out the Light Medallion page." Everyone groaned.

I looked a bit closer at the back of the book. There were little marks where the author's pen indented as he was writing. He must have been determined, I noted. All the other pages were written carefully and gently. This one looked like he was in a rush.
Wait a sec.
An idea came to mind and I gasped.
"TAILS!" I screeched. "GIVE ME YOUR PENCIL!"
Almost frightened, he flung one over to me. As gently as I could be, I carefully colored the back of the book with the indents so the graphite covered every bit but the marks. Slowly, words began to take shape as the message was revealed.
"Piper, you are a genius!" Tails exclaimed, wrapping me in a hug. I blushed. "It was nothing.." I mumbled gushingly.
"Wow!" Sonic exclaimed. "Give me that!"
I handed over the book and the pencil and Sonic started to trace the letters to make it easier to see.

As the message was completed, everyone took pencils and helped discover the lost information.
Knuckles suddenly took the book and read aloud the passage.
"The Light Medallion, or the medallion of the sun, is the strongest and most powerful amulet. The wearer can shoot powerful balls of lightning on command and can reverse ancient spells. Mysteriously, the medallion does not affect touch, but after use, the wearer usually cannot withstand its power. The devastating result is death to all who wields its power.

"There is hope, however, for the wearer. Some say that there is a chosen one, someone who was chosen by the amulet's guardian, who can withstand the power of the light medallion, but all who have tried have failed. The guardian must give his/her blessing to the chosen one for them to withstand the aura of the medallion of the sun.

"The legend stated that the medallion was guarded by an ancient princess and her civilization, but unfortunately, the civilization was destroyed. The legend states that the light medallion was destroyed along with them, never to shine in the sun again."

All of us stood solemnly for a moment, thinking.
"Well," Amy said, twirling her hair. "There's your answer. It was destroyed."
Tails' face twisted. "We don't know that-"
"All signs indicate that it's gone, buddy," Sonic stated.
"There is no other explanation." I whirled around and examined the book myself. "It says that the civilization was destroyed and so was the amulet. That would explain why we can't locate it with all our recourses after all this time."
Everyone shook their heads and Tails sighed. "Then I guess we have them all," he said, closing the manuscripts and book.

I shook my head in disbelief. "It's over. We finally have all the amulets." I let out a puff of air in relief.

Hiding behind a corner, Shadow sighed glumly to himself. "I wish, Piper." He looked at his bracelet and twisted his face in agony. "I wish it was over. But alas, we never get a break." He slipped away silently to the back room to contact our nemesis about the new information, digging the hole for our destruction. 🌟

Authors note- it's almost over!!! Only a couple more chapters?
Q- should I write another book, maybe about the chip I mentioned in the beginning of the series?
