XXXIX: Dumb decisions

After a while, he bit the bottom lip of Hazel carefully breaking the tender kiss.

"Levi,..." She said in low voice feeling her heart like crazy and trying to stabilize her breath.

He put his index finger over her mouth to kept her from talk. "Haze, I'm sorry, I swear to follow your orders from now on. I wouldn't forgive myself if something had happened to you from my reckless decision."

Hazel held his raised hand and squeezed it. "Everyone take their decisions by themselves, it was mine to follow you. It wouldn't be your fault." She brought his hand and rubbed it against her cheek, he cupped her face by the jaw and she could swear, he did a quick smile. "Now, we have bigger problems." She let go his hand and looked around, the sky was turning orange and the sun setting. "It's getting late. Let's hope our horses might have follow the others, we will cross the forest with the ODM. Are you ready?"

He leaned and gave her a quick kiss in the lips, surprising her again. "Lead the way, Captain."

After picking up their blades, they entered the woods flying at high heights to avoid any unexpected encounter with a titan while it got dark. Both were fast and move swiftly between the branches.

A sordid noise was heard from afar making them stop, they looked at the sky and saw a green flare where the camping would take place. A few minutes later they got to the edge of the forest and it was already night.

"It's wonderful, isn't it?" Both were standing in a branch calculating the distance left to the camp. The moon was shining bright in the dark sky, millions of stars scattered, the clouds barely visible. The nostalgic memory from Furlan and Isabel back on the rooftop of the headquarters made him sighed but he decide to treasured this new moment with her holding her hand, while both looked up.

"Let's go, we need to walk." She jumped down to the ground followed by him. They walked along for couple miles holding hands alert of their surroundings for hours until they saw the camping already set. The soldiers that were making the watch got sight of them first and screamed to notify the others.

Hazel recognized some silhouettes that were coming their way fast, she prepared herself to get ambushed by Hange who was running fast with open arms ready to hugged her.

"Oh my goodness, Hazel!" She lifted her holding her tight, then put her again in the ground looking at her with tears in her face taking her by the shoulders. "Are you hurt?" She inspected her. "You are in one piece!" Once again she hugged her friend still sobbing. "I was so worried."

Hazel hugged her and caressed her back. "I'm okay, Han." Hazel kissed the top of Hange's head.

Levi clicked his tongue to remember them he was just by their side. Hange burst in anger and got away from Hazel and stepped in front of him changing completely his face. "What were you thinking, stupid shorty? You know she could've die by going to save your ass?!"

Levi's face was neutral and changed into a deep scowl when Hange blamed him, before he could respond Erwin came between them. "Enough, Hange." He put a hand in her shoulder to made her take a step backward from Levi. "Why don't you go and find Hazel's horse and bring to her the meds? I'm sure she needs them."

"No, I'll do it." Levi quickly said and started to walk in the horses direction.

"No!" Hange screamed and walked behind him. "I'll do it."

Hazel, Erwin and Miche who also has come with them watched both leave challenging like children.

"It took you long to arrive, another hour and we would have to knock off Hange. She tried to escape twice to go and look for you." Miche sighed and then went to hugged her. "I'm glad you made it back." A few tears escaped his eyes when he let go of her.

"Thanks all for worrying." She put on a smile and then look at Erwin. "What about you? No tears for me?" She patted his arm.

"No, I knew you would come back. Let's talk about what happened and what I told you before." He made a sign to Miche to leave and he nodded then left them.

"I know, I know..." Hazel started but he interrupted her.

"The only thing I told you, Hazel!" He rose a bit his voice and he noticed it because some cadets at the distance who were taking dinner beside a bonfire turned their faces. He steadied his voice and took her attention to her. "Don't do dumb decisions outside the walls." He crossed his arms above his chest with severe voice.

"I apologize, sir." She was taken aback by his hard face.

"Explain to me what happened." He noticed he was taking his attitude too far and sighed relaxing a bit. "Sorry, I'm really glad you got back, just tell me your version of the story, I can't trust the cadets' one."

With that she could imagine the new gossip the cadets had invented. She relaxed as well, and both walked around the camping making a round while she told how her plan was to take the titan by herself preventing to reach her squad and they could ran away but how Levi evaded his order and decided to take down the titan instead.

"I knew he wouldn't follow orders from a leader, that's one of the reasons why I agreed to give him a squad, but I thought he would listen to you." They got again to where they've start their walk and saw Hange coming alone with the meds in hand.

"Have you already killed him?" Hazel laughed and took the meds she handed to her.

"I was about to, but I let him alive for you, don't worry babe." Hange went and hug her tight. "Let's find food for you and make our watch."

Erwin saw them both leave like a proud big brother and smiled to himself, then went to do his Commander stuff.

"I don't need your help, shorty!" Hange was looking to the horses to found Hazel's.

"I'm not helping you, stupid. I'm helping her." He was doing the same furrowing his forehead. "Why do you care so much? Are you in love with her?" Levi was interested in which her answer would be but he didn't changed his scowl.

"WHY? WHY DO I CARE?!" She hysterically laughed in sarcasm and walked to the other side of the horse he was with, supporting her elbows in the back of the animal and looking down to him ready to talk.
