Hazel was in position waiting for the titan to come over and tried to catch her. With the adrenaline rushing through her veins, the only thing in her mind was taking down the creature, so when its hand extended to wrap her body within it, she ran in the opposite direction to dodge it. Aiming the trunk of a tree, she threw the hooks to gain height in the air and flip her body to face the titan's back and quickly changed the place where the hooks were, now at its shoulders making her approaching the nape and cutting it out.
The titan fell forward with her at the back, the steam blurring the sight of her surroundings. Now that the monster was not an obstacle anymore, she started to notice how wild were the palpitations, her chest was growing heavier and her breathing was short and superficial, feeling like choking, she was gasping for air. Hazel jump down the creature and got closer to a tree, supporting on one hand against the trunk and looking to the ground, concentrating in her breathing and heart rate. Falling forward to her knees, the droplets of sweat starting to gathered in her forehead, and feeling a bit numb, the desperation taking over her body, she untied the chest strap allowing to expand her lungs a bit more.
Feeling her limbs shivering, she closed her eyes to concentrate more, she started to cough like days ago sensing like there was water in her lungs that didn't let her take enough air. She was fighting against the lack of oxygen what it felt like an eternity for her, and when she finally managed to open her eyes still tired and breathless, by the conner of the eyes, she saw a titan approaching fast in her direction.
The numbness and her own gasping hadn't let her noticed it before it was almost too late. Hazel just limited herself to look at the monster coming her way, she was defenseless, she had dropped her blades and her gear was unfastened, there was nothing else she could do, not even run.
Closing her eyes again, ready to face death, she let out a long sigh waiting for it to eat her.
A hard knock on the ground along with steam in the air caressed her body, the titan never reached her. She had wide opened eyes by the surprise, life had gave her another chance, she fell back sitting on the ground and wrapped herself crying.
"Hazel?" She heard Erwin's voice who was crouching in front of her, shaking her by the shoulder.
She faced him with the tears over her cheeks. "I'm sorry." His face was concerned, but trying to comfort her, he forced a faint smile. "You were right, I shouldn't have come." She cleaned her face with the back of her hand.
He stood up and lend her his hand helping her. "Let's go back to the camp." She hardly stood, the limbs still numb, so Erwin had to carry her on his back.
They didn't had the chance to caught a single titan, the one they had in the traps had to be killed because it didn't stand its force and managed to eat a soldier. It was a shame, three soldiers were killed by the creatures in this attempt of testing the traps.
The sun was setting on the horizon when Erwin ordered to help Rose who was sitting in shock at the same tree where Hazel left her. Everyone startled seeing Hazel being carried by the commander with swollen face by the crying and closed eyes feeling tired, seeming she was fainted.
Levi caught sight of them from the tree he was over while making watch in the meantime the others were gathering the traps. Landing beside Erwin in a rush, he shook her hand which was hanging over the shoulder of her friend. "Haze?" His stoic face disappeared, fear was all over his semblance.
"I'm...fine." She murmured lightly, not opening her eyes.
"No, you're not! What happened?" Levi was desperate asking Erwin.
"I reached her right on time. I'm taking her back, finish picking up and then come." He ordered him starting to left the place.
"I will take her." Levi stopped him furious taking him aback.
Hazel faintly opened her eyes, looking straight to him. "I'll see you there." Then rested her head in Erwin's shoulder.
Levi saw the as they warded off the place in the camp's direction. Levi was feeling his blood rushing through his veins in rage. He had the feeling they were hiding something from him, she wasn't clearly fine. Hange made him get out of his thoughts.
"What was that?" She was intrigued also looking at both leaving.
"Pick up your things, we need to leave now." His bored face was back.
Reaching the camp, Erwin left her over a cart to sat and went searching for her horse to get her meds. It took him a while to return, and by the time he was back, she was feeling better. At least her breathing and heart rate were normal again, but she felt more tired than ever. The thought of how useless she was now, didn't scape her mind.
"Thanks." She took her meds from Erwin. "I mean.. for saving my life." Her face was expressionless, but she mean what she said. "I won't be an hindrance anymore soon." She wrapped her legs and looked to the ground.
"I'm glad you're still alive." He squeezed her shoulder in reassurance and sighed. "Are you okay now?" She only nodded, she was feeling depressed and ashamed. She wasn't able to made any effort anymore without feeling breathless and tired.
The screaming from Hange were starting to being heard from the distance as she approached the camp along the rest. Erwin left her side to meet the others and Levi took his place sitting beside her at the cart. He appeared to be mad at her, sitting without saying anything, crossed arms and waiting for answers. She unwrapped her legs and leaned to rest her head over his lap surprising him, he couldn't stayed angry at her. His hand went to stroke her hair and the other took her hand intertwining their fingers. Her tears were falling again silently and he waited for her to ease standing that way for a while.
His mind was wandering of every possibility about what had happened with her, the fact she was crying like this, couldn't be a good sign. After some time, he noticed she had fallen asleep. Levi didn't wanted to disturbed her and without noticing, he started to feel his eyelids heavy and a bit drowsy. His neck lashed forward after he dozed for a bit making him aware of where he was. The light snoring from Hazel along with the sound of a close fire were the only sounds around him.
"I've been thinking." A voice across the cart startled him. Hange was looking at the sky while drinking a pocket bottle a sip of liquor, offering some to him. He denied it and clicked his tongue. "We've been busier than ever this past weeks, and we didn't had the time to check on her. What if she had feel bad and we didn't noticed? Are we bad?"
He agreed with her, and knowing how stubborn was Hazel, everything was possible. In that moment he remembered the dream he has being having this last week. "Do you think it's possible, she could be pregnant?" It took him all his courage to ask this to Hange a bit embarrassed.
"Huh?" Hange turned her head in his direction with an arched brow. In that moment he snatched the liquor bottle from her hand and took a sip.
"Never mind." He growled.
Hangestayed in her place confused and thinking about the possibility and was forcedto snap out her thought because Hazel regained her posture breathless, gaspingfor air. It's has been a week she hadn't this kind of episode, and afterfeeling steady she looked around her getting notice of them scared.
