XXII: Contest

With Erwin as Commander, changes in the ranks would be made, including Hazel and Hange promoted as Section Commander.

"I'm I able now to have my own laboratory?" Hange had join them minutes after Hazel and received the news too. "My first request is to catch an alive titan to begin my research."

"Are you nuts, Han? It will cost a lot of lives."

"Yes, you can have a lab. No, we can't catch a titan... not until you propose me a real plan, understood?"

"Catch a titan?" Miche took his seat in the table with his tray with a dull face making notice he was hungover. "Why are you all so excited?"

"Say hi to the new Section Commanders, big guy." Hange said with a grin full of pride and excitement.

"I'll make the official announcement later. It's needlessly to say that you are my more trustful soldiers, so I let you know before anyone else."

All over the breakfast time, Hazel was looking at the door waiting for Levi to show, but he didn't. They went to the field for the Commander's morning announcement, the cadets were already gathered in lines when they arrived.

Along with Erwin, the Section Commanders were up the stand at the front looking down at the rest. From there, she finally get sight of him. Being short makes him be at the front line, looking fresh and bored as always, wearing his neat uniform and his hair hanging in his forehead still a little wet. Levi catch her eyes shyly for a second then looked at Erwin who was about to speak.

"Good morning, soldiers. Today, I'm going to announce some changes. First, this are your new Section Commanders, Captain Hange, leader of the Investigation branch and Captain Hazel, leader of tactics. Also some of you are going to be tested in order to be Squad Leaders."

The short staff remaining applause to the news. After Erwin told the names of who were going to be tested, he dismissed all to start the training.

While everybody left, Hazel stopped Erwin from his arm. "I can't believe you testing him, he's has being here like for a month. Are you sure?"

"You trust me, right? I've seen his capability and potential, I know he's going to make it fine and he will make a difference here, I count on you to guide him."

"Right." With a pout she went to the forest where she would meet the squads under her command and the possible future Squad Leaders. The group of soldiers were preparing their ODM waiting for her arrival.

"Okay, soldiers we are going to have a contest! The ones who are being test for leaders, please form a line."

Two young ladies, a man and Levi lined up where she ordered. Its more to say that Levi's disgusted face showed he wasn't comfort with the strategy she was using. She ordered the formal leaders to go and manipulate the titan dummies in the forest and randomly numbered the rest of the soldiers from 1 to 4.

"Numbers one will go in Dieter's team, numbers two with Nifa, three with Levi and the four with Marlene. Gather with your team!" After seconds and adjusting her gear, she clapped her hands to get their attention.

"Okay this contest will have two phases. In this one I want you to take as much dummies as you can in a certain time, the condition is that you can't talk between the team. If I saw anyone talking, I'll make you run laps in the field. Time's up when you see the flare in the sky." She changed her severe face like nothing and smiled to everyone. "Good luck."

She went up to a higher branch to have a good look. Screaming, she ordered to start giving them 5 minutes to take action. It was a clearly mess, everyone acting by their selves, but that was the point.

Reuniting with the leaders in the ground, she made the counts. "Well, we have the winner from this phase. Congratulations team three you took down almost the triple than the others." She was really amazed, with the great difference in the numbers. She sighed failing in her plan.

This phase was supposed to showed them how difficult a mission is without coordination and leadership, but Levi manage to take down by himself the amount of dummies like ten people would.

"The second phase will be the same, taking down dummies but this time I will give you time to know each other as team, the team leaders will have to make the strategy and coordinate the rest. You have until lunch ends."

She dismissed them so they could acquaintance and started to leave.

"I don't want to do this." She heard his voice when he was already walking beside her.

"Thanks for doing the bed this morning." She didn't stopped making her way to the main building.

"Don't ignore me. I hate being with people and you assigned me a bunch of brats."

"Hey, if you don't want to be a leader you should've say that to Erwin. But just remember..." stopping her tracks to face him. "I don't date cadets." She made a kinky smirk and resumed her walk.

"Brat..." he said in a low voice with a frown and clicked his tongue.

"I heard you!" She screamed from feet away.
