XXVI: Jealousy

Levi stayed in the roof top for a while, anxious knowing if he sleep he will see their lifeless faces again in his dreams. Feeling the chill in his bones, he got inside making his way to the dorm. Night was long, missing her warm body beside him, waking up every once in a while in sweat and lack of air.

A rare and blurry nightmare appeared before waking up breathless. Being in a mission outside the walls and suddenly they were back at the top of wall Maria, the city beneath was on fire and titans everywhere. A massacre.

Before the dawn he went to prepare himself for the day taking a cold shower and suiting his uniform. He sat emotionless in his usual table to take his tea slowly, in the meantime the mess hall got fuller and fuller.

His mind was dispersed for the little rest he got, his gaze fixed in outside through the window. He came down to earth hearing the sound of a tray sliding in front of him. Rose, one of the young ladies from his yesterday team has brought him his breakfast along with hers and took a seat next to him with a grin in her face. Seconds later, other cadets took their place at the table.

"You are not a morning person, right? You forgot to bring your food, you're welcome." She was proud for the kind gesture she just did.

Levi looked at the tray then at her with no verbal response, just an almost imperceptible nodded. She moved a bit closer to him and started taking her food, giving him flirtatious looks but also trying to be discrete, at least she thought.

"He's not a people person, I might say." The boy named Roger took the seat across from her and offering a friendly smile to Levi. "Good morning, leader." Today he didn't appeared to be intimidated by the usual look in Levi's face.

"Tch. I'm not your leader, the contest it's over."

"I think I speak for all when I say that you were awesome and I think you will be an excellent Squad Leader someday." Everyone nodded to the statement of Rose, she took him by surprise when she held his hand to show him support looking deep in his eyes.

Her look wasn't a supportive one to be honest, it was full of lust. He felt more uncomfortable than flattered, suddenly she let go of his hand when they heard a clearing throat sound behind them. She started to blush getting caught by Captain Hazel, who was standing at their backs with her hands over her waist and a deadly face directly at her making Rose gulp loudly.

"Morning, soldiers!" She started to walk between the tables where the cadets beneath her command were to make her announcement, "It's physical day, don't eat too much. I don't want anyone throwing up."

Some nodded and others made a salute in response to her. After she started to walk back to her table, she passed by Levi's table and took a little peak in his direction with suspicious eyes and he catch her before she turned her face forward. He stopped looking at her and realized that he had been observed by Rose.

"That look was weird, do you think something's wrong with her?" Roger took their attention breaking the tension that was growing between Levi and Rose.

"Why would I know?" Levi relaxed a bit taking his tea before almost choking from what Rose said next.

"She seemed angry. I will dare saying that I thought she was jealous." With her ego in the clouds she started eating again in her try of look unbothered.

Roger let out a laugh between his teeth but didn't said anything else knowing her personality and started taking his food too.

Levi didn't even touch the food and left the mess hall when training time came.

With the possibility that what Rose has said was truth, Levi cautiously took note of Hazel behavior while training go by. It was easy to test her because Rose insisted in get paired with him a couple times until Hazel decided to form the pairs by herself.

Roger and Levi worked together for the last exercises. Levi felt both ladies' look every once in a while, one more relaxed and the other fierce for getting separated from him.

"Hey, what do you think about Rose?" Finishing the exercise both sat on the side to take water and breather.

"She's too obvious."

"So are you. I mean the Captain, of course. Maybe this 'jealousy' could help you to get her attention more."

Levi turned her face to find her on her usual bench laughing with the crazy woman who was clingy as always, his rage grow thinking about how close they were.

"You wouldn't have to do anything, really. Rose will be trying to get your attention anyways. Here she comes" Roger whispered the last sentence.

He was still staring at them in the bench and both catch him for a second, Levi turn his face and found Rose sitting next to him, very close for his liking, she was sweating but smiling at him with a tint of flirt.

"Want to grab lunch together?" she waited for an answer from him but this kind of situation wasn't usual for him.

"You read my mind!" Roger interfered standing up helping her get into her feet but with a disgusted face, obviously he was not part of her plan for lunch. "Let's go, buddy, you left me really tired."

Levi was relieved that Roger joined them, not knowing what to do with the woman by himself. The three walked to the mess hall along with the whole Squad.
