XLI: Get used

Gathering everything in the carts and preparing the horses, the survey corps were ready to go back.

"Attention, we are going to round the forest and go back to the wall. Ackerman, if you dare to disobey my orders again, I'm going to send you to the training corps to learn something call discipline." She threatened him pointing with her blade, he just crossed his arms and clicked his tongue. Some giggled and Roger, elbowed him in order to teased him. "We haven't lose anyone in this section until now, let's keep it that way. I'm very proud of you, soldiers." She offered them a kind smile.

Everyone rode their horses when the signal of leaving came. Just a few titans appeared from nowhere that they had to take care of and others they were able to evaded changing the direction of the formation.

The wall was visible miles away, and few titans were near the gate. Erwin threw a flare sign to the garrison troops to inform them they were coming. Getting the sign, they started to kill the titans near with the cannons up the wall. By this time, the formation can't change its direction, they regrouped so they could get in the tunnel which was already opened for them.

Hazel's section was the last in line, and there still were titans around that the garrison couldn't kill. Nifa, was the only one from the tested leaders that hadn't accomplished a kill in the whole expedition, in order to prove she was capable, she broke up from the formation in the titans direction.

"Nifa, come back!!" Andrew, who was the leader of the squad she was assigned, screamed to her when he adverted she was riding away. "Fuck. Captain, I will have to go." He rode beside Hazel to notify her.

"What the hell she think she's doing." She grew concerned watching her leave alone to the three titans walking in her direction.

"I'll go." Levi had rode and placed by her other side.

"No! You take the others inside, I'll go with them. Com'on, Andrew." Levi took her hand before she could rode behind the leader with concerned face. "You swore to follow orders, remember. Let me do my job." She let go from his hand and rode fast.

Levi regretted his swear and reluctantly kept riding in the line with her section behind him almost arriving the tunnel, he took a last look to her before entering and he grew more worried.

Once inside Levi stood beside the gate watching the outside waiting for her to come. Erwin came ready to give the order to shut the door seeing that no one else was there.

"Don't you dare to close them." Levi took Erwin from the neck of the green hood with his stern face and without taking care if he was disrespecting his higher up.

"Take off your hands, soldier." Erwin's face was also stern looking at him.

"She's still out there." He put his hands in the reins looking through the tunnel again.

Erwin gasped and cursed in low voice doing the same as him not giving the order. Everyone at the surrounding were whispering, wondering what was going on. A garrison soldier announced that two titans were coming to the gate. Erwin gave up and had to give the order to shut it.

"What are you doing? We have to wait for her." Levi complained screaming.

"Hazel isn't here, where is she, Levi?" Hange arrived in her horse mortified and understood the situation by the look of Levi. "Erwin, stop!" She screamed pleading him.

"We are talking about Hazel, she will be fine!" He tried to reassured them, both on the verge of tears. "Let's climb up." With this he unleashed the hooks of his ODM and went up followed by them.

The garrison soldiers were helping in the other side someone to climb up. First they uploaded Nifa who was fainted and with a wound in the arm. The three approached to the edge of the wall and looked down, all breathed again when they saw Hazel climbing. The soldiers helped giving her a hand to finally reach the top.

She fell to her knees with a jacket full of blood in her hand, gasping for air and crying. "I couldn't save him." Hange went to hugged her at the instant consoling her.

After seeing Hazel was okay, Levi went furious to where Nifa was lying and shook her hard by the shoulders to wake her. Erwin grabbed him from the torso to stop him. Nifa was confused opening her eyes, looking to her surroundings, making herself aware of what had happen when looked at Hazel who was crying at Hange's shoulder, and Levi's mad face, she flinched at the pain of her arm and stayed there lying with tears streaming and sobbing.

"Let me go, this brat disobeyed and got someone killed."

"Leave her for now, she's injured We'll take care of that later." Erwin, tried to hold him back.

Hazel recovered and stood helped by her friend. "Erwin, I was supposed to see Dr. Jaeger for the checkup and I lost my meds with my horse. I'll be in the headquarters by night."

"Fine, do what you've got to do. Levi, stay with her." Both nodded and descended the wall, the other two helped Nifa to went down.

"I'll fetch the horses." Levi told her and left her waiting there.

"Hazel! Hazel!" She looked around searching for Eren who was making his way to her through the crowd. He finally made it and hugged her receiving her. "Welcome back, Hazel."

Her voice was still fragile from the crying so she decided just to caress his hair. She let go of him and give him a tender smile. She saw that Mikasa was behind him and took her hand giving it a kiss.

"Are you okay, miss Haze?" The face of the young girl showed concern for her.

Hazel cleared her throat before talking. "Everything's fine, guys." She heard the horses behind her back and turned to see Levi waiting for her holding the reins of the horses. She turned to them and whispered. "You see that man over there? He's the one you heard that was the strongest and killed the abnormal." Eren's face enlightened and watched Levi who just returned a scowl. "I need to go and see your dad. Say hello to your mother for me, okay? I'll see you the next time I come." She hugged both at the same time before returning to Levi.

"Who are they and why that kid looked at me like that? What do you told him?" Hazel was leading the way while they walked through the city.

She was in a better mood so she laughed a bit. "He was my number one fan, but I guess you took my place. He admires you."

"Tch. That's ridiculous." He rolled his eyes and stopped when she did. "This is not a clinic, this is a temple."

"I know, follow me." She left her horse outside and made her way in. He did the same and followed her until she stopped again, now in front the plaque where Declan's name was. "I told you I would bring you." Levi gulped and felt a knot in his throat. "I will go to the doctor to give you a moment alone." She got closer to him and planted a kiss in his cheek.

"What can I say? You were right, I got used to her too much." Levi whispered after Hazel left him.
