Chapter 9 ~Acceptance & The Distraction~

Lily's POV:
The next day, I was on the couch, humming to the twins as I rubbed my stomach. I heard footsteps coming towards me.

I looked and saw Edward with my cup of blood. I gave him a small smile before turning away from him.

He sighed then sat on the table in front of me, "I'm sorry I've been so angry" he told me.

I sighed, "I would be too" I told him softly.

"I've left you alone in this. Just like the first time" he told me sadly as he held my hand.

"Marriage" I told him.

He chuckled, "Well, they say the first year is the hardest."

I turned to him, "I can't do this without you. Not again. I know this whole thing has been hard on you, but I need you. Please, don't leave me alone again" I told him as a tear fell and he wiped it away.

"I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. I promise" he told me, making me smile.

He looked around confused, "What was that?" he asked me.

"What?" I asked.

"I thought I just heard..." he trailed off as he put his hand on my stomach, "Just say something else" he told me.

"Like what?" I asked him.

Edward started to smile at my stomach, "Edward, what's going on?" I asked him.

"They like the sound of your voice" he told me, "They love when you sing to them" he added.

"You can hear them?" I asked in shock as I placed my hand on Edward's.

"And mine. They like my voice as well" he told me happily.

"What... What do you hear?" I asked.

"It's so strange. I thought they were like me, but they're not, they're like you. Good and pure. They're happy" he told me.

I smiled down at my stomach, "Of course you both are. Of course you're happy. How could you not be? I love you both so much" I told them.

I looked at Edward, "What do you hear now?" I asked him.

"They love you, Lily" he told me and I smiled as tears of joy fell.

Edward kissed my stomach before sitting down next to me.

"What's going on?" we heard Will ask as he walked towards us.

"Daddy can hear the twins" I told him and his eyes widened and smiled.

He put his small hand on my stomach, "Hi babies, it's me, Will. Your big brother. I can't wait for you guys to come out so we can play" he told my stomach before giving it two kisses.

"They can't wait to meet you, bud. They love you" Edward told him and Will's smile widened.

"I love you too. When you come out we can all play outside with Mama, Daddy, Uncle Danny, Uncle Emmett, Uncle Jas, Aunt Rose, Aunt Alice, Grandma and grandpa. Oh and Finn. He's our dog" Will told them before sitting on Edward's lap as we enjoyed this moment together.

Will continued to talk to the twins about his toys and the family while Edward pulled me close to him and kissed my forehead.

3rd POV:

As the family enjoyed their happy moment together, they were unaware of Jacob watching them.

"Jacob" Carlisle called to the wolf.

He gestured to downstairs and Jacob followed the doctor into his office, so they can talk along with Esme.

"So that's the last of it?" Jacob asked, talking about the last blood bag on the table.

"Lily could deliver as early as tomorrow. If she's going to have any chance at all, she'll need more blood" Carlisle told him.

"And you need to feed. You have to be at your strongest for her. We need to go tonight" Esme said.

"Carlisle, you're the enemy now. Sam won't hesitate. You will be slaughtered" Jacob told him.

"Emmett will come with us" Esme told him.

"That won't be enough" Jacob told her.

"We have no choice, Jacob. If there's anything we can do to save her, we have to try" Carlisle told him.

"You'd risk your lives for her?" Jacob asked them.

"Of course we would. Lily's a part of our family now" Esme answered him.

"Yeah, I can see that. This really is a family. As strong as the one I was born into" he said sadly before making a plan, "I know what I have to do" he added.

~THAT NIGHT~

Jacob walked deep into the woods, followed by Leah and Seth.

"Jake! They're coming" Seth told him.

"I know" Jacob told him.

"We should phase, Jacob. We can't protect ourselves like this" Leah told him.

Jacob shook his head, "They'll see it as a threat" he told her before turning to the woods, "I wanna talk! Be easier if I could hear you, too" he yelled.

Then they heard footsteps come towards them. Paul appeared first then Jared.

"This isn't you're territory anymore" Paul told them, "How's your new family working out?" he asked.

"You done?" Jacob asked as Embry and Quil appeared next.

"You coming home, Jake?" Quil asked.

"Not until I finish this" Jake said.

"What do you mean?" Paul asked.

"I want Sam to take back Leah and Seth" Jake said.

"What?!" Leah yelled.

"No way!" Seth argued.

"Quiet!" He ordered the two, before turning to his former pack brothers, "I want them safe and I want this over. I need Sam to wait until Lily's been separated from the problem" he added.

"You mean until she's dead" Paul said.

"Ease up, Paul" Embry told him.

"Then what?" Paul asked.

"Tell Sam that when the moment comes, I'll be the one to destroy those things" Jake announced.

"Jake!" Seth said in shock.

Jacob ignored him and continued, "I'm the only one who can. They trust me" he told them.

Meanwhile, Carlisle, Esme, and Emmett were running from two of the wolves. They got passed them safely and ran to hunt as the two wolves howled to the rest of the pack, letting them know what happened.

"You played us!" Paul exclaimed once they heard the howls. The pack ran off as Jacob, Seth, and Leah went back to the Cullen house.
