(56) Surprise

  Three weeks had passed since the attempt on his life had been made, there hasn't been any more traitorous activity since then- at least none that has been reported back to them. All three of them now have their own personal guards that follow them around the castle, day in, day out. There were certain limitations given to their personal guards for obvious personal space reasons but other than that, they are always being protected and watched over by them. Lance had gotten his two guards back to watch over him again, their names are Morgan and Leon, both of them were older yet still very capable male alphas. A couple days after Lance's guards were reassigned to him Keith had decided to continue with testing what was left of the guards that had originally taken the test, Morgan was there by his side to keep him safe from any other surprise attacks. He ended up needing Lance's help to choose how to split up the best five guards in the test, they ended up sending Rithriel to stay by Allura's side, then were stuck with the last four. They debated for a while about splitting the twins apart or not, Lance eventually came to the conclusion that it was for the best that they did split them apart and no matter what, Keith should definitely take Alrid or Calyx to be one of his two guards. In the end, He had chosen Calyx and Saria to be Marzipan's guards, leaving Griffin and Alrid to be his own. Marzipan started sleeping in her own room after her guards were chosen, they found that it was just as hard to sleep without her there as they thought it'd be. Even with having the baby monitor set up and her being guarded, they were both still quite anxious about it. Marzi didn't exactly like being in her own room either at first, it took a long while for her to get used to falling asleep without Keith or Lance in the room.

  Lance has been quite busy as of lately, the alpha has been spending a lot of his time working on paperwork with Allura and reading up on the latest news on the other kingdoms. Keith was proud of him and thought it was great that Lance was starting to take things seriously and all but.. he would be lying if he said that he didn't miss having his mate around more often. The last few days Keith noticed that he was starting to see less and less of his alpha, which only left him wondering what his mate was up to and if it was all actually due to work.. or maybe Lance was busy doing something else?

   The sudden shift of weight on their bed was what woke him up, he instinctively grabbed at Lance's side of the bed and grabbed his arm in the dark. Then he swiftly pulled his mate closer before Lance could get any further away. "Where are you going at..." He paused to look over at their bedside clock. "Five in the morning?" He questioned, barely able to see his mate's face. "...Would you believe me if I said 'to do paperwork'?" Lance replied coyly. "No." He answered bluntly as he reached to turn on one of their lamps, still unwilling to let go of Lance's arm without a real answer. "Seriously, where are you going?" He asked, glaring into his mate's soul as he waited for an answer. "Okay, okay! Have mercy on me! I was just planning a surprise for you, that's all! I really can't tell you anything more about it than that though. So can I please go? I need to make sure everything is perfect for today." Lance pleaded, clasping his hands in front of his own chest as if praying Keith will say 'yes'. Even though Lance doesn't actually need his permission. "Fine, keep your secrets." He replied playfully, placing a kiss on Lance's cheek before letting go of his arm and laying back down to go back to sleep. "I'll see you later at breakfast, love you." Lance whispered, gently ruffling Keith's hair before he got out of bed. "Love you too." He replied back with a yawn. He was unsure if Lance had even heard what he said but was too sleepy to ask.

   Keith had decided to spend most of his morning in Marzi's room, one guard from each pair was inside the room with them and Kosmo had just kind of tagged along. Keith had set up a large blanket on the floor for Marzi to play on, he was currently sitting on one end of the blanket as Marzi started to try to crawl again. Calyx and Alrid awkwardly stood nearby, taking their job to guard the princess and future queen very seriously. Marzipan had only recently learned to crawl, it had shocked all of them when she had first attempted it a few days ago. He couldn't contain his laughter as Marzipan slowly crawled behind a very confused Kosmo, following him to the best of her newfound ability. "Kosmo, she won't bite- At least I don't think she will." He commented jokingly, though the wolf-beast probably had no clue what he was saying anyway. Alrid started to chuckle and almost as if it was contagious, Calyx did too. Which was honestly a rare sight, Calyx is usually so tense and awkward so it was kind of nice to see them relax a little. Marzi seemed to have had enough of it and started to cry, probably just frustrated that Kosmo consistently kept out of her reach no matter how much she tried. "Is the princess alright?" Calyx asked, going right back to their tense self. "Ah, Marzi's perfectly fine- she's just a little upset is all. Even though she's started to crawl a lot sooner than we all expected, she gets easily annoyed here and there when the things she crawls for are far from her reach. Like Kosmo over there." He explained as he scooped Marzi up and started to bounce her.
