(9) Cloud Gazing

Lance's p.o.v:

He led Keith around the castle, enjoying every minute of the other's company as they made their way towards the royal gardens. "Hey, Lance? Isn't your sister's 19th birthday coming up in a week or two?" Keith asked suddenly, almost startling Lance. Gods.. How annoying to bring up Allura at a time like this! "Ah- that! Yea it is. Our father is going to hold another 'birthday ball' for her this year too." He answered with unenthusiastic jazz hands. Keith raised a hand to his face, trying and failing to hide the fact that he was smiling at Lance's expense. He's just lucky that he's cute.

"I can't remember which one of her parties it was that I had attended but it was quite extravagant." Keith mumbled, seemingly deep in thought. "Yeah, our dad does go above and beyond for those kinds of things- Wait, what?! Hold on- You've attended one before? One of my sister's birthday parties?? How come I never noticed you there then?" He questioned, unable to hide his surprise. There's no way he wouldn't notice someone like Keith at one of Allura's parties.. Keith's looks really stand out, especially compared to the other Galra that usually attend these gatherings. So how come he doesn't remember at least seeing him there? "Ah, well... About that- I was uhm.. Was kind of dressed up as a noble lady.. So that's probably why.." Keith answered hesitantly, avoiding eye contact. Welp- He wasn't expecting that! "So like.. You wore a gown? That wouldn't have disguised you too much." He replied, trying to picture Keith in a dress. "I wore a gown, a wig, and makeup." Keith answered with a drawn out sigh. "Oh- wow! Did you lose a bet or something?" He asked, unable to stifle his laughter. Keith stopped in his tracks, simply looking up at him with a dead serious look on his face. "Yes, to Prince Orion." Keith answered. "Your brother really made you do all that?" He asked, only receiving a nod from Keith in reply.

They started walking again, the silence between the two making him realize that bringing that up probably hurt Keith's pride as an alpha. Which is fair. If Allura had ever made him dress like a noble lady he'd probably die of embarrassment! As they walked his thoughts wandered off about Keith in a princess gown and makeup, unable to really picture the other in a wig but could definitely picture Keith getting all flushed and embarrassed about it. Keith probably looked cute too.. Damn it. "Anyone else besides me and Prince Orion know about that incident?" He asked. It's an innocent enough question. "Hm.. Queen Ophelia, your sister, and Prince Lotor are the only other ones who know besides you two. Queen Ophelia had obviously seen me off to the ball in that get up, Lotor and I had gone together, and I had greeted your sister at her party to be polite and she happened to recognize me." Keith explained, counting each person off on his fingers.

"I'm kind of jealous that I didn't get to see you dressed like that but Lotor and Allura did! They've got quite the blackmail there." He commented playfully, sneaking glances here and there at Keith. "I'm glad that you didn't, It was the most embarrassing day of my life." Keith mumbled, his face getting flushed. He almost called him 'cute', realizing that he was lucky to have caught himself there before saying anything. Gods, don't call other alphas cute, Lance! You'll just offend Keith!

The rest of their walk had been nice, the two of them walked in comfortable silence when they weren't making idle chit chat. Once they got to the gardens he led him up the hill, proudly showing off the linens and pillows he had set up earlier for the two of them to lie on. "Make yourself comfy.~" He suggested as he himself laid down, putting his arms behind his head. "How does one even.. Cloud gaze?" Keith questioned as he got settled down, more or less copying Lance. "Well- For example, that cloud over there kind of looks like a bird!" He offered, trying to explain his hobby to the other in the easiest way he could think of. "You just kind of look for images and shapes in the clouds to pass time. I just think it's pretty nice to come out here on sunny days and enjoy the scenery, sometimes I can get a good nap in." He added fondly.
