Lance's P.O.V:

The three of us had danced together, no partners needed for it. Hate to admit it but Lotor can actually kind of dance. After that we sat down at the table Lotor had previously placed his empty wine glasses at, and are currently making small talk while we wait for another good song to play.

"Ive been wondering, how long have you two have actually known each other?" I asked. Keith tilted his head to the side as he tried to recall. "We've known each other since I was like 7...? I think? Lotor was brought over from his kingdom for 'play dates' with Prince Orion." Keith replied. "Me and Prince Orion didn't end up getting along, and had a fight on my second visit there and I went to their garden to cool my head. That's when I met Keith, he was just playing in the fountain and he was absolutely drenched." Lotor added, and smiled at the memory. "From that day forward our parents suggested that I was a better fit for Lotor's playmate." Keith said as he folded his arms on the table and proceeded to rest his head on them.

"So you guys really have known each other for deca-phoebs (years) then." I said, kind of jealous that Lotor probably knows Keith way better than I do. "Mhm." Keith hummed. "Hey.. Keith why do you refer to your mom and older brother so formally?" I asked, as I have always been kind of curious. "What do you mean...?" Keith asked, sitting upright in his chair. "You call your mother, 'Queen Ophelia' and your older brother 'Prince Orion'. I've heard your brother refer to her as  'mother' and 'mom' but you don't." I blurted, then realized that might have been a sensitive topic.

Keith looked down at his lap, I couldn't tell what he was thinking. Lotor cleared his throat and said, "Let's just say that Keith is not all that close with either of them." Keith just nodded, still staring at his lap. Great, now I feel like an asshole. "Sorry.. I didn't know kitten." I mumbled, genuinely feeling guilty for bringing it up. Keith looked up at me with a forced smile and said, "No it's alright its not a big deal. I don't really mind." Even though he says that, it's obviously a touchy subject. I thought our families may be similar because we are both children who've lost one of their parents, but I guess not..

"Hey, either of you want to dance to this one?" Keith asked suddenly, and he stood up from his chair. The song's beat was quicker and louder then the rest of the songs that played tonight. A handful of people got off the dance floor and stayed by the sidelines. "I will!" I said, before Lotor could make a sound. I led Keith by the hand into the middle of the dance floor, keeping Keith from getting trampled by the crowd.

. . .

We danced for a couple songs and right now we are currently in the middle of a slow dance, I looked down at him. When he smiled up at me, my heart almost burst. "Lance...?" Keith asked. I didn't respond, I just leaned down and planted a kiss on his forehead. When I pulled away to see his face he was absolutely flushed, and I couldn't help but grin like an idiot. Keith hid his face against my chest, and we just kept swaying to the music. At least he didn't say he hated it or anything.

Keith hid against my chest until the slow dance was over, and as we got ready to head off the dance floor we heard quite a few blaster shots go off, followed by screams and the sounds of what I can only assume were bodies hitting the floor. A Galran man near us was blasted in the face and his blood splattered across Keith's face. Everyone was freaking out and trying to escape the ballroom. Keith just stood there, wide eyed, staring at the man whose life was just taken right in front of us. And judging by all the commotion he is not the only one that has just lost his life. Quickly I slipped my vest off and covered Keith's head with it, mainly trying to hide his Galran ears and then scooped him into my arms and ran through the chaos towards the table we were sitting at earlier, looking for any sign of Lotor. "Come on, hurry!" Lotor whisper shouted, lifting the table cloth up for me to get me and Keith under. Once me and Keith were under, Lotor let the cloth fall back down. Lotor and me had our backs to the edges of the table cloth, Keith in between us, facing me. We were like walls trying to shelter Keith from the chaos outside.

I held Keith close to me, he was hyperventilating and shaking like a leaf. I reached into my vest that was still covering Keith's head and slipped out a handkerchief. I made him look up at me by tilting his head up with my index finger, and wiped the blood off of his face with my handkerchief. "Sh, sh try to calm down.. We have to trust in the guards capabilities and that they can take care of this." I whispered, trying my best to get him to calm down enough, trying to get him to steady his breathing.

Keith nuzzled his face into my chest, his breathing was getting a little better but he was still trembling. I wrapped my arm around him, Lotor looked like he was listening intently to everything going on around us. I tried my best to give off a calming scent for Keith but it's hard when you're also scared out of your mind. I'm not scared for me, I'm scared for Keith, my sister, my father, and the innocent people out there getting killed. More thuds were heard and plenty more blaster shots, I can only assume what went on out there.

. . .

We've been hiding under here for what seems like ages and all I can hear now were several sets of footsteps. The shooting stopped a bit ago but why? Was it just rebels out there? Did the guards take care of it? The smell of blood was overwhelming at this point. "Prince Lance!? Prince Lotor?! Prince Keith?!" People kept calling out, looking for us three specifically. Lotor reached over Keith and tapped my shoulder to get my attention, and signaled for me to keep quiet. "Dad what if something awful happened to them?!" A girls voice asked, panicked and it sounded like she was on the verge of tears. Kind of sounds like... "Boys!? Lance! Lotor!! Keith!? It is King Alfor, it is safe to come out now!! If you're here please come out!?" My father shouted desperately, that means that girls voice was Allura's voice! They're both safe!

Lotor took a deep breath and had a dagger in hand and got up and out from underneath the table. "Lance, it really is safe. But... cover Keith's eyes please.." Lotor said grimly, giving me the all clear. Once I got out from under the table I kept a kneeled position so I could make sure the vest was kept over his eyes, then I scoop the smaller alpha back into my arms and navigated through the mess of blood and bodies following Lotor over to my Father and sister by the entrance. "Don't look until I say so kitten.." I whispered, and all I got was a nod in response. It took everything in me not to throw up at the sight.

Once we were out of the ballroom two bloodied guards closed the doors to the ballroom. "Im so glad you guys are okay!" Allura said, her eyes brimming with tears. "Im glad you and dad are okay.." I replied quietly. "Is he okay?" Allura mouthed to me, pointing at the small alpha in my arms. I shook my head no, but didn't want to bring up that poor guy who was shot right beside Keith. Which most definitely traumatized him.

"You boys should call it a night and head to your rooms." Alfor said, and went back into the ballroom with three guards. "You can look now kitten.." I mumbled. Keith hesitantly removed the vest from his head, and looked up at me, then to Lotor and Allura. Lotor turned to me and said, "I can take him to his room." Keith frantically shook his head no, and that was enough of an answer for me and walked back to my room, carrying Keith the whole way there. My sense of duty to keep him safe and to comfort him was all that was keeping me level headed enough to function.
