Chapter Twenty One

CHAPTER TWENTY ONE:

When Brooke arrived home that afternoon Crystal was already there.

"Hi how was your lunch with your mum?"

"It was great! the kids love going to see their Nanna, we had a really nice lunch and then we took the kids to the park".

"What did you get upto today?" asked Brooke

"Oh I did some washing and then went shopping"

"Did you buy anything?"

"I got some really nice shoes and a dress, there are lots of sales on at the moment" she got her purchases and showed Brooke.

"One thing for sure you do have great taste in clothing, I love what you've bought"

"thanks"

"Guess what happened this afternoon?"

"What?"

"Well I bumped into Jake on my way home from Mums"

Brooke continued to tell Crystal the story, the next minute Crystal turned to Brooke and said.

"I don't like that guy one bit! He is a lier and a user and has always got an answer for any bullshit situation he gets himself into. I don't know why you are still with him!"

Brooke replied back yelling at Crystal "You know what! it's none of your business who I go out with it's my life and besides he makes me happy.....most of the time. I don't always like your boyfriends either, but I just keep quiet and be polite to them. I think if your happy then I'm happy, and if anything goes sour I will be there for you. I don't need a lecture from you. You better be bloody nice to him when you see him!"

With that Brooke stormed off into her bedroom. Deep in her heart she knew Crystal was right, she just didn't want to hear it or believe it. She didn't want to be on her own especially now that Crystal had Hank and was over his place most of the time. Brooke enjoyed spending time with Jake she enjoyed his company and she loved him. One day he just might change some of his ways. She can only keep hoping.

Jake came over that night nothing was said about the earlier altercation down at the Hyatt car park in Marina Delray.

"Brooke do you have your children next weekend?" Jake asked

"No why?"

"I was just thinking maybe on Saturday night we could go out to dinner and stay at the Hyatt at Long Beach'

"That sounds really nice, I would love to"

The week ahead was going to be a busy one, Brooke had her work conference comming up the week after and had to do a presentation in front of her work colleagues which she was not looking forward to. So she had a lot of preparing to do as it had to be on powerpoint and at least fortyfive minutes long. To Brooke fortyfive minutes seemed to be an eternity. So she not only had to do her presentation she also had a few appointments with some potential customers and also had to do quite a few quotes and sales orders. So some nights when she didn't have her children she would be in the office from 8.30pm until 7.00pm at night and this was going to be one of those weeks. It would take her over an hour each way to get to and from work. She still managed to make it home by 8.30pm to see Jake.

Brooke didn't see much of Crystal that week especially after their argument, but Brooke was not one to continue fighting and not talk to Crystal and Crystal was the same, once you've said what you have to say get over it and move on. They had been friends for too long to now become enemies.

Friday afternoon came and Brooke phoned Crystal on her way home in the car to see what she was upto tonight. Brooke had the kids in the car as she had just picked them up from school. Crystal answered straight away.

"Hello how are you?"

"Good how are you?"

"What are you doing tonight?"

"Nothing I am staying at home tonight"

"Do you want to get takeaway and a movie?"

"Sounds good to me" said Crystal.

Jake wasn't comming over that night as he had a gig on at one of the clubs so it was a good opportunity to catch up on all the gossip with Crystal and it would be nice to have time on their own with the kids. Just the four of them like old times.

That night they got wine and thai food for dinner, they got a DVD out "Bridget Joneses Diary" they sat up and watched, they shed a few tears and also laughed and really enjoyed the movie, they then decided to just chat.

"Look I am really sorry about the other day" Brooke said to Crystal

"So am I, I was out of line, I'm sorry"

"Where's Jake tonight?" asked Crystal

"He's doing a gig tonight, so I thought it was a good time to catch up. He's not comming over after it, so we have the night to watch whatever we want, Where's Hank?"

"He's at home, I just felt like having a night at home".

"Well at least we got to catch up"

They watched another movie called "Must love Dogs" with Diane Lane and John Cusack. It was the night for romantic commedies, after the movies they went to bed.

Brooke decided to call Jake but there was no answer, she thought perhaps he must be in bed asleep. So then she gut a really sick gut feeling and decided to call the club he was giging at. The club receptionist answered the phone and put her straight throught to the entertainment manager.

"How can I help you" he said

"I was just wandering what was the name of the duo that played at your club tonight?"

"I'm sorry but we did not have a duo play here tonight, it was a band with five guys in it"

"So there was no duo at all" asked Brooke

"Definately not"

Then Brooke hung up. She felt sick to the stomach,"That lying bastard!" she said to herself. She was not going to say anything to Jake or anyone else, she would bring it up after their weekend away. She laid in bed with thoughts running through her head and finally fell asleep.
