CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN:
The day had arrived for Jake to fly out to Taipei in Taiwan, Jake had mentioned this to Brooke two weeks ago that he had planned and booked a work trip. He was going for three weeks, Brooke had offered to drive him to LAX airport. He left her house early that Saturday morning to drop his dog off at his best mates house Rick and then he would be back for Brooke to take him to the airport. She had offered to mind his dog while he was away but he had told her the dog was used to going to Rick's house.
Around lunch time Jake arrived back at Brooke's.
"Where's you luggage?" Brooke asked
"I already drove to the airport and checked my bags in early" replied Jake
Brooke didn't know whether you were able to do that or not and was not going to start questioning him on it now.
"So are you ready to go"
"Yep! all set" said Jake
They got into Brooke's car and headed to the airport. Once they arrived at the airport, Brooke parked the car and walked into the terminal with Jake He stopped to look at the gate and time to see if his flight was leaving on time.
"Look there's my flight and the gate number as he pointed it out to Brooke on the monitor" She didn't even think for a minute that he would already have known all that information with his boarding pass as he had apparently already checked in earlier.
"At least it's on time" Brooke said
They got to the customs entrance and that would be the last time Brooke would see Jake until he comes back to LA.
"Well I guess this is it" said Jake
"He pressed her into him and gave her a long lingering kiss goodbye"
"Please be careful, I will miss you so much, I wish I was going with you"
"I'm gonna miss you too sweety, I will call you once I get there, and remember you can call me whenever you want to, I will have my phone on international roaming" Jake told Brooke.
"I love you"
"I love you too"
He gave her another peck on the cheek and then disappeared through to customs. Brooke wiped back the tears from her cheeks, she always hated goodbyes especially at airports, she walked back to her car, about ten minutes later Brooke received a text message from Jake telling her he missed her already and that he loved her, she text back "Ditto" as she was driving.
Brooke arrived back home and was looking up in the sky hoping to see Jakes plane heading up in the sky as it was around about the time it was to take off, her place was situated under a flight path, so she often looked up at the planes flying by, she was always a bit of a dreamer.
Sunday morning arrive and it was Mother's Day, the children were dropped off and they gave her a lovely Mother's Day gift it was hand cream and some body lotion along with some chocolates, that was Brooke's biggest weakness chocolate.
"Thank you so much for my gifts, you two always know what I need and love" with that she kissed them both.
Brooke was taking the children to El Dorado Regional Park at Long Beach for a picnic, they packed their bikes on the back of the car on the bike rack and she had also packed chicken salad sandwiches, some cold cans of pepsi, potato chips and a little chocolate cake she had baked earlier. It was a glorious day, they arrived at the park and looked for a spot to set up their picnic. They chose a spot near a bicycle track which was also near a large duck pond. The kids and Brooke got on their bikes and went for a ride, after their bike ride they sat down on the picnic blanket and got out their sandwiches and had their lunch. They decided to go over to the duck pond and feed the ducks with the spare bread they had taken with them. The children were having a great time feeding the ducks they were comming out of the water and doddling up the bank of the pond right up to the kids and taking the bread from out of their hands. Brooke sat on the bank and was looking around there was lots of families at the park celebrating Mother's Day, she thought to herself how nice it would be to one day be a family again like that. She started to feel sad and lonely and a little teary eyed the tears welled up and started streaming down her face, but she wouldn't let the children see her upset so she quickly pulled herself together and wiped her face, the kids couldn't tell as she had her sunglasses on. They decided to kick the ball around on the grass, while Brooke sat back on the picnic rug to watch, once again her mind wandered off to Jake thinking if he had arrived at Taipei and how the flight went going over there. The afternoon was comming to an end so they packed up all their things and went home, they all had a great day.
"Thanks for a wonderful day Lauren and Dillon, I had so much fun!"
"We did too mom"
When they arrived home Crystal was still out, she had gone to visit her mother for Mother's Day as well. Brooke was in the kitchen getting dinner ready when her cellphone rung, she ran over to her handbag to hopefully get to it before it went to voice mail.
"Hello" there was a dealy and then a "Hello" it was Jake.
Brooke was estatic to hear from him.
"How was your flight?"
"It was long, but I'm here safe and sound, I can't talk for long, it's just a quick hello, I have my first meeting at one of the factories soon so I am going to have to go"
"Okay, I love and miss you, I'm so glad your there and everythings okay" said Brooke
"I will give you a call in a couple of days, be good and take care, love you" said Jake
"You too, love you too" replied Brooke
Then the phone went dead. Brooke was happy the rest fo the night, she was greatful he had rung her and was now counting the days until he would be back and she would be in his arms again.
