Chapter Sixteen

CHAPTER SIXTEEN:

A few more months went by and Brooke was seeing less of Crystal, she was spending a lot of time at Hanks place. Brooke was very happy for Crystal, happy that things were going so well between them and she had finally found someone. Brooke had never stayed at Jakes house and she would never ever just turn up at his house un announced either. A few times she wondered if he was married and that his wife did a lot of travelling but when she thought it through it sounded rediculous especially when he was always staying at her house.

One Saturday Brooke was driving her car down a popular shopping area in LA, she had Crystal with her in the car. She noticed Jakes car drive past her in the lane next to her and there was a blonde headed woman in the passenger seat.

"Hey that was Jake that just drove past with a girl in the car with him!" said Brooke in a shocked paniced way.

Then and there Brooke had a sick feeling in her stomach, it was like she was on a roller coaster and her stomach dropped. Brooke pressed down hard on the accellorator to catch up to him, she got up beside him and honked her horn! Jake turned to see where the noise was coming from and so did the mystery woman, his face turned white and with that he sped off through the red light to try and lose Brooke.

"Can you believe that?" Brooked screeched at Crystal

"It's probably just a friend"

So Brooke tried calling Jake on his cellphone but he would not answer.

"Bullshit! just a friend, why did he try to run off like that? He didn't want her or me to see each other"

Brooke drove home, once she entered the house she ran out into the back yard for fresh air she was in tears and short of breath, she was having an anxiety attack and was in a really bad way. All her fears were coming to her she tried calling him again still no answer. Crystal was trying to console Brooke and calm her down.

Twenty minutes later the doorbell rung, Brooke swung open the door and standing there was Jake with a worried look on his face.

"What's wrong?" he asked

"Who the hell was that woman in your car and why did you ignore me and run the red light to lose me!" yelled Brooke hysterically.

"Calm down, I din't even see you, I thought I was about to run into the car that's why I sped off, I didn't know it was you!" he had a smirk on his face which Brooke wanted to swipe right off.

"The woman in the car was Robert's wife"

"Why would Robert's wife be in your car? and besides I didn't even know he was married considering he had been fooling around with other women, like my friend Cathy!"

"They are going through a rough time at the moment and are trying to work things out, that's another story, I was dropping her off at the mall for Robert, she loant her car to her son so he could get to work, he works at Wallmart part time. I had been at their house and said I would drop her off as I was going past the mall, that's all it was, don't be so silly"

For a moment Brooke felt like a fool, Crystal was hiding upstairs in her room. Brooke wasn't completely convinced but it did make sense, but she just didn't get the part why he sped off like that when she knows he saw her. Jake was holding Brooke close to him and could feel her trembling in his arms and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"Look I've got to go home and feed the dog and have a shower, how about we go out for dinner"

"Okay" replied Brooke

"I'll be back at 7.00pm, don't worry I would never do anything to hurt you, I love you" Jake left and Crystal

came downstairs.

"Are you allright?"

"I think so, I'm just gonna have to give him the benefit of the doubt"

"It's a good story" said Crystal

"I'll say, he's coming back soon, we are going out for dinner, I better go and get ready, I feel like shit after that little saga. It's drained all my energy, I'm usually right when I get that gut feeling like that". Brooke didn't have enough evidence not to believe his story so she decided to believe it.
