Chapter thirty four

CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR:

Every afternoon after work Brooke went to the gym to take her mind off Jake and Pace, she wanted to look super hot so as when she saw Jake he would hopefully think about what he has lost, she did this before picking the children up from school each day.

It was now Wednesday and she didn't have Lauren or Dillon, she was feeling again sick to her stomach with nerves, she was to go out with Pace that night. She really felt uncomfortable and anxious about the whole thing, she was like a nervous wreck for some reason, she kept saying to herself it's only a date but the more she told herself the more she didn't want to go. She got home that afternoon and Crystal was already home.

"Hi Crystal" Brooke yelled out as she walked through the front door.

"Hi, I'm just upstairs I'll be down in a minute"

"Okay"

Brooke went to the fridge and got herself and Crystal a Corona each. She took a hugh gulp of the Corona, she needed to calm her nerves down. Victoria came down and Brooke handed her a Corona.

"Thanks"

"I can't do it"

"Can't do what?" Crystal asked

"I can't go on the date tonight, I am so nervous and worried, it doesn't feel right, I don't feel I have anything in common with Pace, he's a Solicitor and I feel like I might say something dumb and I wouldn't have anything intelligent to talk to him about. For some reason I feel very intimidated and I don't know why. He has not done anything wrong, but I'm gonna have to call him and cancel it"

"You can't do that! he's picking you up in two hours" Crystal said

"I have to, if he hates me for this it's too bad, I just can't do it, I don't think I'm ready for this, I still have feelings for Jake and I need to sort that out first and get over him, it just wouldn't be fair to Pace" Brooke got her cell phone out and dialled Pace's number, her hands were shaking and she felt a little breathless, the room was silent you could hear a pin drop. The phone rung twice and then Pace answered it"

"Hello"

"Hi Pace, it's Brooke, how are you?"

"Great! how are you going?" Pace asked

"I'm okay, look the reason for my call is, I'm going to have to cancel tonight, I'm so sorry for the short notice, but something has come up, and I can't get out of it"

There was silence at the other end of the phone for a few seconds, then Pace replied with "That's fine!" and then hung up on Brooke, all Brooke could hear was the beeps.

The look on Brooke's face was relief and confusion at the same time.

"What happened?" Crystal asked

"He said fine and then hung up, obviously he has the shits with me, what can I say. I don't think I'll be hearing from him again, a girls allowed to change her mind you know and responding like that just tells me he's not a nice person, and not a very understanding one either"

"Why can't men be understanding at times" Crystal said to Brooke "You could of had a legitimate excuse"

"Well he obviously didn't believe it!" Brooke said walking back to the couch.

"We'll I'm going to pack my over night bag and hit the road" said Crystal

"No probs, I'll see you tomorrow then, only three days until Jake gets back, won't that be fun!'
