CHAPTER TWENTY THREE:
Brooke breezed through her presentation at work, she had her work conference for three days, those days dragged on listening to people speaking especially those who spoke longer than necessary they loved to hear themselves talk. She was also learning new products for her to sell along with doing team bonding activities. It was a long and very drained out tiring week. She'd spoken to Jake as she was driving home, it was Thursday and he was not seeing her that night. She didn't mind she wanted to take Lauren and Dillon out for pizza and spend time with them. She collected the kids from school and went to the supermarket to get some groceries. Once home the kids played on the xbox for a while, then they sat down and did their homework and reading. After that they went to the local pizeria for dinner. When they finnished dinner they went home the children had their showers and went to bed. Brooke stayed up and watched television with Crystal, it was about 10.30pm.
"Where's Jake tonight?"
"He's at home"
There was a pause and then Brooke said to Crystal "I know this is going to soud crazy, but! would you mind just watching the kids for me, there asleep, I am going to go past Jakes house to see if he is really at home and also just to check if there are any other cars parked there in his driveway".
"Not a problem, can I ask why are you going over there just to see if he is home?"
"I'm not going to knock on his door, I have never done that ever, with him I have never felt comfortable enought to just turn up at his house, I've only ever been there to his house once and that was waiting out the front in the car. I just need some peace of mind, after catching him out lately with odd things he had done and all the stories he's told me I am starting to get worried that he is not telling me the whole truth. I love him so so much, I wish I didn't feel insecure like this, I don't think I could cope if I found out he was cheating on me. Lateley I don't sleep properly when he is not here as I am so paranoid he is upto no good. that's why I am going over there now."
Brooke got up and put some joggers on she got to the front door "I won't be long, and thanks for listening"
Brooke drove into Jakes street her heart was racing, the adrenalin was running through her body. She parked down the road and got out of her car she was a little scared, she had no torch and Jake's house was behind another house, so she had to sneak all the way down the side of the neighbours house before she got to Jakes, also she didn't want Jake's dog to start barking either. She quietly and carefully tiptoed very softly down the side driveway. The neighbours lights were still on so they were still awake, she stopped and hid near a tree for a few seconds looking at how much further she had to go and then she continued down the side. She finally reached Jake's front yard it looked like Hill Billies lived there, he had the speed boat, some recycling materials sitting near the boat and an old rusted out washing machine, there was no grass just sandy dirt and weeds growing everywhere. She also saw his car parked on the otherside of the yard. A sigh of relief swept over her, all the lights were off so she assumed he must of been in bed. She was happy and for once she believed him. She snuck back up the driveway, she wanted to get out of there as quick as possible. Once whe was on the street she ran back to her car and sped off.
She got back home Crystal was still up waiting to hear what the outcome was.
She opened the front door for Brooke "So what happened?"
"God it was scarey walking down to his house, but he was home, the car was there and all the lights were out. Also there was no other car there so I feel a lot better now. Maybe a little foolish but I needed some reassurance, I have felt like a nervous wreck lately with all the crap thats been going on."
"That's good" said Crystal
"Thanks again for listening and for your understanding, I think I might go to bed at least now I know I will get a good nights sleep"
"Me too! Goodnight" siad Crystal while yawning.
Brooke went to bed and crashed.
