CHAPTER FORTY SIX:
Brooke felt much better after soaking in her hot bath full of bubbles. Once she got out of the bath and got dressed she went into the kitchen to check her cellphone, but there was still no call from Rick. She made herself a cup of tea and sat outside on the deck in the backyard where it was protected from the wind, the sun was beaming down. Brooke felt it was nice sitting in the warm winter sun listening to the birds flutter from tree to tree in the garden and watching the the little garden lizard sun itself on a rock, if only life could be as simple as it was right then and now, she closed her eyes and layed back in her chair. Crystal had gone out to lunch with Hank so Brooke was home alone and dozed off.
Brooke could hear her cellphone ringing in the kitchen, she got up from her chair and ran inside and grabbed her phone.
She checked the caller ID but it came up as a private number "Hello"
"Hi, is this Brooke?"
"Yes, who's this?"
"It's Rick, you left a message on my answering machine"
"Yes I did, look I need to tell you something that involves Monica and Jake"
"Right....What is it?" Rick said in a concerned voice.
"I'd rather not tell you over the phone, It would be better if I could see you in person and discuss it with you then"
"Oh okay, Um...When and where?"
"Have you got time now?"
"Sure, where do you want to meet?"
"How about at that little shopping mall, The Grove in the outside carpark, say in about twenty minutes. How about you call me when you get there" Brooke said to Rick
"Sure, no worries, I will be in a white van"
"Okay, I will see you soon then" and they both hung up.
Brooke did not want Rick to come to her place, she wanted to be in a public area just in case things got ugly, she really didn't know Rick at all.
Brooke started to lock up the house and grabbed her bag and keys, she also took her diary with her to prove to Rick that what she was telling him was all true. She had documented everything down over the two years. Brooke arrived at The Grove shopping mall and entered into the car park, she did a lap around and couldn't see Rick's van so she drove and parked in a spot right next to the carpark entrance, she turned the engine off and got out of her car and lent up against it waiting patiently for Rick to arrive, she thought by parking where she did he would definately see her, she was feeling quite nervous her mouth was dry and she was dying for a drink of water, her heart was beating fast. A few short minutes later Rick turned into the entrance of the carpark and flashed his car lights at Brooke, as least he had seen her and remembered what she looked like from when she saw him with Monica that time at the Sky Lounge. Rick pulled up beside Brooke and got out of the van.
"Hi how are you?" Brooke said nervously to Rick
"I'm good, how are you?"
"Not as happy as I'd like to be" replied Brooke
"So...What is this all about?"
"Well I have some disturbing and sad news to tell you Rick, I didn't want to be the one to tell you this, but Monica and Jake are having an affair"
Rick took a step back "WHAT!"
"I'm really sorry, but they apparently have been seeing each other for six years"
"Are you sure? I mean I thought a few years ago that something was going on between them when I found cards and love letters in Monica's wardrobe, but they assured me it was a misunderstanding, just a a crush that Jake had on Monica and nothing else, so I let it go and believed them. I didn't want to lose her"
