One womans heart break anothers pot of gold

Chapter Twenty Four

CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR:

It was 11th March Brooke's birthday and the children were so excited and wanted Brooke to open her presents. Her mother had stopped by a few days prior and dropped off her present to her and her Dad had sent her a present to her in the post as he lived miles away.

The kids had gone and bought her a gift with their Father. That was one thing they did agree on was for birthday's, christmas, mother's and father's day there should be something for the children to give to their parents, they were special days. She opened up all her presents and loved everyone. Lauren and Dillon had picked out a beautiful pair of dangly earings with a matching necklace

"These are beautiful, I will wear these out on Friday night, thank you so much, I love you two so very much" she gathered the two of them in her arms and gave them the biggest kisses and squeezed them tightly in a hug.

Crystal had given her a couple of music CD's which Brooke had wanted, she put one of the CD's on while they all got ready for school and work. Just as Crystal was heading out the door Brooke called out to her

"Crystal! are you going to be around tonight?"

"Yeah, I was going to have a drink with you for your birthday".

"Good! Caronline's going to pop in after work as well, so we can all have a drink together"

"I'll see you tonight then Happy Birthday!" and then Crystal closed the door behind her.

It wasn't long after and Brooke left as well, she dropped the kids off at school and headed to her first appointment for the day. Brooke had received phone calls throughout the day for her birthday and Jake too had rung.

"Happy Birthday Sweety!" Jake said as Brooke answered the phone.

"Thank you, are you comming over tonight?"

"Of course I am" said Jake

"Why don't you come over earlier as Caroline is popping in for a drink and she would love to see you, Crystal will be there as well" asked Brooke

"No, you have a drink with the girls and then I'll come over around 8.00 - 8.30pm, I don't want to be in the way"

"You won't be in the way, please!"

"I really can't, I'll see you later tonight, have a lovely day"

"You too, thanks for calling, I'll see you tonight then"

Brooke was kind of disappointed, but at least he was comming over.

That afternoon after work the three girls sat around and had a bottle of champaigne, Caroline had arrived also with a bottle of champers and a lovely gift for Brooke which was some really nice scented candles along with some beautiful candle holders. Brooke always loved burning candles at night while watching television or relaxing listening to some music. Candles were very much in vogue at the moment. The girls had a lovely time together. Caronline went home and so Brooke gave the children their dinner before Jake was to arrive. Lauren and Dillon had their showers and soon after that the children went off to bed.

Jake arrived and he gave Brooke a passionate kiss and held her in his arms as he whispered in her ear "Happy Birthday honey, did you have a nice day?"

"It was great! the best birthday ever and especially now that you're here"

Brooke opened a bottle of wine that Jake had brought with him, he went of into the lounge room and sat down and was talking to Crystal.

Brooke entered the room with three glasses of wine they made a toast for Brooke's birthday and had a sip of there wine. Jake pulled out a gift from under his coat, "This is for you, happy birthday" and gave Brooke a peck on the cheek.

It was a little box with white glossy wrapping paper and a big gold and white ribbon around it. She first opened the card, on the front of the card read:

"Well, our tadpole days are over,

Feeling older, tired and broke;

Can't hop as high, can't catch no fly

But at least we haven't croaked."

It had a frog singing on the front of the card playing a guitar, then when she opened it the rest of the verse read:

Older, sure -

but you still have great legs.

Happy Birthday.

Jake had then written:

Dear Brooke, I hope the coming year brings you all that you wish for.

You certainly deserve it. Have a happy Birthday

Then on the other side of the card he wrote:

Bigger Love

J xxx

She thought it was very sweet, not a romantic mushy card but what he wrote said everything she needed to hear. She then opened the box and inside was a 18ct White gold bracelet with 14 diamonds all the way around it. She loved it and kissed him and thanked him, she couldn't believe he had bought such an expensive gift and it was something she would treasure forever. She put the bracelet on straight away and kept looking and admiring it all night. Crystal was also surprised she didn't think Jake had in him, but she was wrong for a change, maybe he wasn't lieing about things that had happened after all.

Brooke too thought maybe he has been honest all along with her and she had just been paranoid, how he must have felt with her asking him questions and challenging and quizzing him on certain things, she felt very guilty. Who would spend that sort of money on someone if they were cheating. For once in a very long time she felt at peace and was extremely happy.
