CHAPTER NINETEEN:
A year had gone by and it was now the silly season christmas day was only two days away, not much had changed in that year, there was no talk of marriage or moving in together from Jake, just the usual routine. Brooke had a work chistmas party coming up which she was taking Jake to as partners were invited, the company Brooke worked for had been sold to a very large security company in the U.S.A and that company was the comapny Caroline her best friend worked for. So Caroline, Nathen, Brooke and Jake were all going together to it. Everyone was in high spirits and in the christmas celebrations mood. Brooke introduced Jake to a lot of her work collegues which she was so excited about as they had heard so much about him over the year, she was proud to have him by her side. She adored him and thought the world of him. Once again he kept going outside to the front of the buidling to phone someone, Brooke had been mingling with some work collegues and wandered where he had gotten to. He told her he wad going to the restroom but it had been a while so she decided to go out the front and there he was hiding in a doorway on his cellphone. Of course she didn't want to be rude and interrupt him so she mouthed the words "What are you doing? and how long will you be?" he put his hand up and mouthed the words "I will be in in a minute"
Again she was a little suspicious but she was probably getting paranoid, she was thinking why would he need to be on the phone to someone on Friday night when he is suppose to be out with her, any time she gets to spend time with him is precious time to her as she knows she won't be spending any time with him on the weekend.
The christmas party was fun, they got a lift home with Caroline and Nathan as Nathan didn't drink alcohol.
The next day out of the blue Jake asked Brooke if her and the kids wanted to spend a few hours on the water out on his speed boat. Brooke was surprised at how much he had changed since the wedding, of course she would love too, so he picked them up and they spent the day on the boat they swam and had a picnic on the beach it was a fantastic day. He dropped them off at Brooke's place in the afternoon and he was going home to flush out the motor and wash the boat down, then he would be back with dinner for Brooke and the kids.
Lauren and Dillon really liked Jake although they didn't see a great deal of him as they were usually in bed by the time he arrived and then still fast asleep when he left early in the morning, but when they did see him they were always talking and laughing with him. Brooke was having a rather rough time with her ex husband, he was always going to be in charge of her life and free time untill the kids were at least eighteen years old, he decided when she had the kids and when she didn't, a lot of the times she would have the children on Friday and Saturday nights and a lot of free time during the week, but all of her friends had nine to five jobs Monday to Friday, so nobody wanted to really be going out on a week night. Brooke's mother would insist on minding the children on several weekends just to give Brooke some time out on her own, and Caroline minded the children several times as well. Jake felt sorry for Brooke and told her to go to a solicitor and get some advice to see if she can change things. He wrote her out a cheque for fifteen hundred dollarsshe didn't want to take it but he insisted so she did and went and saw a solicitor, there really wasn't much she could do, that was life. Her ex husband will rule her life for many years to come, unless she decided to change the court orders and only let him see them every second weekend, she could inforce that but Brooke did not want to punish her children or their father for the way things had turned out so she was willing to live with the circumstances of having a control freak rule her life. Through all the stress she was going through she was now 48 kilos and 5 foot 7' high in size four clothing, when she was originally in a size six, she was barely eating anything and exercising at the gym like a freak. She still had a lot of issues with her weight, looks and relationship even though she felt the relationship side of things were back on track.
