RIVER POV
We pulled up on the side of the road and got out. My partner and I waited as the other car pulled behind us. They did so with their lights blindly flashing. I rolled my eyes at their stupidity. The guy in there was meant to give us information on a drug dealer we'd been after for some time.
"It probably would've been smart if you turned off the siren." I told officer Benson. He was an older officer that liked to play boss. He liked thinking he was better than the rest of us.
"Zip it, Matthews." He turned to his partner. "Turn it off." Idiot.
"Crane and I will head in and...."
I didn't hear the rest. My attention was on the figure crawling out of the window of the house we were about to bust through. No doubt the siren alerted him. I mentally shook my head and leaned against the car with my arms folded. Benson was going to make me stay by the car as usual, I knew that much. He liked to belittle me for two reasons. One, I was a woman and two, because I was a woman with a dick.
A dick bigger than his.
"Stay here, Matthews." He ordered.
My partner Wyatt gave me a sympathetic look and followed. It wasn't his fault, Captain gave specific orders to follow Benson's lead. He was the most experienced among the four of us.
I waited for all three of them to walk towards the house. I jogged towards the direction the person went. I knew he was probably hiding somewhere at a safe distance, waiting for us to leave. I kept quiet as I looked around the dark area. The only light came from the streets lights in the distance and the moon. The houses were close by so not much room to move quickly. A noise behind me drew my attention and I turned just in time to see someone sprinting away. I was hot on their heels. The narrow alleys weren't helping but I kept up.
Fuck, he was fast. I bumped into something and I felt a burning sensation run through my arm but I ignored the pain. We made it onto the road and I internally cheered as I willed my long legs to go faster. Just before he turned down another street, I jumped on him. We both groaned from the impact of the fall.
"Fuck man!" He yelled in pain.
I got up and twisted his arms behind his back. When he was cuffed, I pulled him towards the house again.

"She doesn't follow orders. She is reckless and irresponsible. She has no discipline or respect for authority." Benson complained.
We were both sitting in Captain Anderson's office. My arm hurt from the five stiches but I hid the pain well.
"Yet, I was the one who got the guy." I stated calmly.
"You should've said something!" His voice raised.
"When have you ever given any of us a chance to talk? All you know is barking orders." I kept my tone even.
"That's enough!" Captain slammed his hand down. "Officer Benson, you don't like her and everyone knows that. But you do not, let that get in the way of your work. Matthews is a quick thinker and she's damn good at her job. We have no room for personal feelings here. Am I clear?" His voice held authority.
"Clear, Captain." He muttered.
"Now Matthews, what you did was dangerous. You disobeyed orders. What if he had a gun or knife? You do not, ever, go without back up. Am I clear?"
"Crystal." I smiled.
He shook his head. "Get out."
Benson stopped me when I was about to go into the locker room.
"You'll get what's coming to you, Matthews." He threatened.
I tsk and squinted my eyes. "Old man like you shouldn't get worked up like that." I patted his shoulder and moved quickly out of his reach.

The bar was packed tonight. I was currently flirting with a cute girl I saw when I got here. I could tell she was easy to impress. Ryan and James were at a table drinking.
"Excuse me." I told her and walked to their table.
"What? Struck out?" James smirked.
"Nope, just wasn't feeling it." I shrugged.
I heard a door open and close, and I looked towards it. In walked the goddess dressed in tight jeans, a thin sweater, knee length boots and her curly hair was down. That same man who picked her up the other night was with her, she hung off of his arm tightly. Our eyes met briefly, she sent me a wink with a devious smirk on her full lips.
My eyes followed them to a table. I watched shamelessly as they talked and laughed. They were both very touchy with each other. It made me feel something that I didn't dare to dwell on.
Of course, she's taken. I felt greatly disappointed with that discovery.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and I saw the girl from earlier standing there.
"I need to use the girl's room. Do you?" she asked, with her hand on my thigh.
"Definitely." I drained my drink.
We walked to the restroom and into a stall. We kissed hungrily, nothing nice about what we were doing. She tugged on my zipper and I knew what she wanted. Just when I was about to set my buddy free, I remembered something.
"Are we doing this or not?" She asked impatiently.
"Not." I backed away from her.
"And why not?" Her face showed her annoyance.
"No condom, no sex." I said fixing my clothes.
"I'm on the pill." She replied, pulling me to her.
"Yeah no." I backed away. "I'm not the kind to fall for that, besides I've never went bare and I'm not about to start now." I said firmly. "This girl ain't about to be a daddy." I pointed to myself.
She rolled her eyes and pushed past me.
I washed my hands and walked out right after her. My green eyes caught amber eyes staring right at me. I gave a cocky smirk and joined my brother and best friend.
"That was fast."
"It didn't happen." I told Ryan.
"What? Did little River have trouble performing?" He teased.
"Nothing little about it brother and she never has trouble." I grinned smugly.
"Hey, isn't that the woman from the other night?" James asked and I followed his gaze.
"Yeah, that's her." I sighed.
The man placed a kiss on her cheek as she laughed in glee. That same feeling came back, only more prominent this time.
You don't mess with relationships, River. Get over it.
"I'm going to invite them over." James got up.
"What, why?" I asked quickly.
He had this knowing look in his eyes. "They seem like they could use some friends."
"Uh, no they don't. They're on a date, leave them alone." I tried to grab his arm but he dodged me.
"Be right back." The boy sauntered off.
"Ry, stop him." I begged my twin.
My brother shrugged and continued to drink his beer.
I nervously watched as my idiot friend talked to them. Both of their heads turned in our direction as he pointed to us. For some stupid reason, I ducked my head and scooted down in my seat.
"Yeah, that made you invisible." Ryan said sarcastically.
"Shut up." I mumbled.
A few more words and they all made their way to us.
