RIVER POV

Captain listened intently to my theory of it being someone from the inside. I had waited a few days before pitching it, not wanting to throw blame. I made sure it was just the two of us, just in case. It had been eating me alive, trying to piece this all together. This last murder had been more disturbing because of the way she was killed. It was rushed and brutal. A slit to the throat.

I cringed just thinking about it. I didn't need Kailee knowing that bit of information so I kept it to myself. I knew she was worried and I hated that it was because of me.

"If you're right, this needs to stay between us. We don't need whoever it is to know." Cap spoke seriously. "I'd be lying if I said the thought didn't cross my mind but I just didn't want to believe it. One of my men betraying the oath. River, I'm trusting you and you alone." He looked me in the eyes, showing me he meant it.

"Yes sir." I replied just as seriously.

On my way out, I was stopped by Gail.

"Hey, wanna come over tonight?" She asked in a sultry voice.

"Oh, I can't do that anymore, I have a girlfriend." I told her not being able to stop my smile at the mention of my baby. It had been a while since she approached me which is why I forgot to tell her.

"Hey, that's great. I'm happy for you." She spoke genuinely.

Gail was cool like that. She was all for fun but just like me, respected one's relationship. I guess now Dean would be her only source.

"Thanks." I smiled.

She winked playfully and walked away.

I picked up flowers and food for my baby on the way to her house. As usual, I used the spare and walked right in. Knowing she was grading, I went into her home office. I was met with one of my favourite sights. The whole glasses and messy bun look was my weakness.

"I love the way you look when you're so focused." I spoke just loud enough for her to hear but not to scare her.

It didn't work because she still jumped slightly. "Stop doing that, I didn't hear you come in."

"I used the spare. I missed you." I leaned down to kiss her soft lips. "I brought you food."

"You should keep the damn thing, since you use it as yours anyway." She stood up and started walking out.

"I get a key?" I asked, not even trying to contain my excitement as I followed.

She chuckled, looking at me over her shoulder. "You get a key."

"Yes." I pumped my fist into the air. Not wasting any time, I put it with my others.

"Thank you for the flowers, baby." She smiled as she smelt them.

"Anything for you. We should eat though, we have to meet everyone at the cafe in a bit." I moved so I could hold her.

Kailee and I sat at the booth. Ryan was on stage with Dana, James and Edward were in a corner by themselves. We sat listening to my brother sing horribly with the girl he was currently dating. He definitely got his pipes from mom. I was lucky enough to be blessed with Ma's pipes.

"You wanna sing a song with me?" Kailee asked, holding onto my arm tighter.

She'd been glued to me since we've been here, but I certainly wasn't complaining. Let every damn person in this town know she was with me.

"Yes!" I exclaimed and pulled her to the stage.

We got Keith Urban and P!nk-one too many. We sang and had fun with the song. I was damn lucky to get to sing with the beauty, I couldn't get over her voice. I found myself mesmerized and getting lost just looking at her. She sang P!nk's lines and obviously killed it.
