RIVER POV
"Be careful, I'll see you later." I told Cam as she got out of the car.
"I will, have a good day." She replied and left.
I stayed with the car idling for a few more seconds, my eyes stuck on the red Chevrolet camaro. She was there already. I waited with my phone in my hands all night for her call. It never came. Since we started seeing each other, one of us would always call before bedtime to say 'good night'. I knew she was upset for some reason but I still had hope she'd call or at least text. I didn't want to, in fear of her not answering me. She did kick me out.
I pulled off in the direction of the station. We had the raid later on today and preparations were in order. I willed my mind to focus on work and not the goddess but that didn't happen. Over and over again, I tried to understand what I did wrong. I couldn't understand for the life of me. I figured it just had to be patient and wait. She'd talk to me eventually. She had to.
I made a stop at the cafe and grabbed some coffee. I bought some treats to cheer myself up. I eagerly watched as the girl bagged my stuff and I took it before going back to the car.

"Alright people, remember to act natural. We don't need anyone suspecting anything." Captain spoke.
We had just got to the high school and waited for the students and teachers to come in. I stood against the wall and kept my eyes on the entrance door. Students piled in first, then teachers. The principal was already on the stage waiting to address them.
My head tilted to the side a bit when Kailee walked in. She looked as beautiful as ever, but something was off. Her confident glow that always radiated off of her was absent. She looked tired and sad. I felt a tightening in my chest at the thought of her being anything but happy.
She looked my way and we made eye contact. That feeling I always get whenever I gazed into her eyes came full force. The butterflies and rapid heart beat, all that shit. Kailee looked away and walked over to the same wall from last time. I stared for a while longer, soaking in her existence. She always looked so professional no matter what, her posture, her attire and overall appearance screamed classy. I removed my eyes and decided to focus on the task at hand.
During the talk Captain was giving, me along with some other officers left. Class rooms, teacher's lounge, lockers and everything else were searched.
"Got something!" Someone said after almost an hour of searching.
I knew the students would be antsy by now, wondering why it was going on this long. I walked over to the officer to see what he found.
"What is it?"
"Everything man." He sighed. "Cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, roofies, freaking GHB. Damn it."
"Whose locker is this?" I grabbed the name sheet from him.
Wesley Tucker. Same fucking kid after my sister. I stormed back into the assembly hall. I stopped just before barging through the door to calm myself. Once I thought I was okay, I easily pushed open the double doors. Glancing around the body of students, I looked for the idiot. My eyes landed on Kailee to see her looking at me but I didn't take time to distinguish the look she gave.
Numerous voices started to complain, someone was pushing through. I caught sight of Wesley making his way to the other exist. The boy looked over his shoulder, right at me before increasing his pace. I pushed through my way, I could hear the commotion behind me but I didn't look back. He had already taken off when I got there and I sprinted after him.
He ran down the hallway, taking turns and throwing things down to block me. Easily dodging them, I pumped my legs faster. He turned a corner and as I turned, I was met with something hard to my face. I stumbled back almost falling but caught myself. Fucking shit hit me with a 'wet floor' sign.
Our chase continued to the library. I stopped to catch my breath while I looked around the empty space. As far as I knew, there was only one exit so he was in here. I crept through the shelves, trying to be quiet. I didn't know if anyone came after us but I hoped they did.
Where was he?
"Hands up." His voice said behind me.
I turned around to see him with a gun. It was small but obviously still deadly.
"Okay, let's not do anything hasty." I lifted my hands.
"I just want to leave." His hands shook but his face held a blank expression.
"That's a lot of drugs, how does a high schooler get their hands on that?" I kept my voice leveled as I eyed him closely.
He laughed a dry laugh. "I'm not saying shit. Come on, you're helping me get out of here." He beckoned me over.
I could draw my gun but I didn't want to. He was still a kid, maybe I could talk him down.
"Tell us where you're getting the drugs, and maybe you'll get away without anything on your record. You are eighteen right? If you do anything stupid, you're going away. Shooting a cop? Not too mention this school is currently filled with us, you're not going anywhere unless it's with us. Don't make it harder on yourself."
I could see his face paling as I talked. "I-I just sell for them. I don't bring the drugs in but I would honestly rather go to prison. You don't know him."
As he spoke I could see Wyatt sneaking in along with Captain. I started to slowly walk to turn him away from them.
"Like I said, we could work something out."
"And I said no!" He came closer.
"Put the gun down!"
Wesley jumped slightly and turned his head. I took the chance and tried to pry the gun away. We wrestled falling to the ground. Captain and Wyatt shouted but my attention was on getting the gun. I elbowed him in the rib gaining me a punch in the throat.
I honestly don't know what happened. There was a gun shot and somehow I ended up on the floor in pain. My eyes closed and I drifted away.
