RIVER POV
I walked around the crime scene. A dead body of a woman was found in her apartment by a friend. According to reports, she overdosed on heroin. The needle was placed in her hand, her sleeve shoved up her arm. This was the second person this week.
"There was an obvious struggle." Cap spoke. He had decided to take the lead on the case.
"Someone else was here." I added, pointing to two glasses on the ground. The coffee table was shattered into pieces.
It was almost exactly like the previous victim. These weren't druggies, they were working and respectable people, according to the close friends and family we spoke to. They had no history of alcohol or drug abuse. Evidence indicated that they were forcibly given the drug.
"First the teenagers and now this." Cap muttered angrily.
"Wesley did say something about a 'him'." I reminded.
He walked away grumbling under his breath. I looked around at the people in the room, taking photos, dusting for prints or whatever else they had to do. I noticed Wyatt hadn't come back in yet. Just then he strolled in with a weird face expression.
"What's that face about?" I asked with a raised brow.
He shrugged. "Girl problems. I swear I get yelled at for every single thing. I'm sure you can relate."
Nope, sorry. I'm an amazing girlfriend and my girl is perfect. "I guess." I answered, not wanting to rub it in his face.
I knew I wasn't that great and Kailee wasn't perfect. No one was, but that woman was perfect to me. I was crazy over everything she did or said. Crazy over her touches, hugs, the fact that she always fed me. Yep, that was a big deal to me, I loved to eat. I loved her clingyness too, and that she always insisted that I come to her place rather than mine. We had been dating for almost two months now, officially together for three weeks. Although I had been invested since our first date. Not bad, at least for me. I honestly thought I'd fuck up by now. Or she'd get tired of my immature self. She didn't seem to though, she laughed at my stupid jokes and happily gave into my childish requests.
I got a back rub every night I spent with her, and she got me the stuff for my bath. I was fucking spoilt. I, of course, tried to be just as good to her. I brought her, her favorite flowers three times a week, the real ones. I made her breakfast in bed whenever I got the chance. Sent cute texts throughout the day, I was proud of myself. I needed to make sure she knew she was always on my mind.
After we were finished at the scene, we headed back to the station. The rest of the night went slowly yet quickly. By morning, I rushed to the showers and dressed. I grabbed my things I needed and beelined to my bike. I probably should get a car, it was hard when I needed to take my uniform to wash and dry clean.
On my way to the school, I stopped to get breakfast for Kailee, Cam and I. Kailee never cooked on mornings so I knew she was going to work hungry. I went into Ma's cafe and ordered. Three coffees and three croissants in hand, I then realised what a bad idea this was. Sighing, I went back in.
"Mama?" I called her the name I used when I wanted something.
She sighed dramatically. "What do you want, Riv?"
I showed my full arms. "Can I borrow your car?" I pouted, just to sell it.
Not even thinking twice, she threw me her keys.
I got a reply from Cam, telling me she was sitting by a table outside. I quickly went to her, seeing her alone. I expected her to be with Brianna but guess not.
"Breakfast, my little bookworm." I gave it to her.
She gave me her cute little smile. "Thanks, I did eat though." She twisted her face a bit.
"Eat again. Where's your bestie?"
Her face fell at the mention of Brianna. "Uh, with her boyfriend. Mom dropped me."
I nodded with a small frown. "You two have a fight or something?" Because it was weird, they've been best friends since they were like three. Brianna was even the one who insisted on picking Cam up most times. She was just as protective over Cam as I was.
"No, I guess she wanted to spend time with him before school started." She planted a smile on her face.
"Alright." I didn't push. "Be good, I'm gonna give this to Kailee." I gestured to the food.
I was soon approaching my girl's classroom. Even though I saw her just yesterday morning, I was impatient. I noticed the door was open and voices were heard. Standing directly in front of her doorway, I saw her conversing with some woman. Kailee's smile was polite but this person was a bit too friendly for my taste. Also her hand on my girl's arm didn't sit right with me.
I loudly knocked on the door, gaining their attention.
"Oh, hey. I thought you'd go right home." Kailee smiled coming closer, the stupid woman following her.
"Breakfast." I simply replied, jealousy threatening to surface.
"How nice, I wish I had friends like that." The woman butted in. "I'll get you those papers now." She left with my eyes digging holes in her back.
I faced Kailee, seeing an amused expression on her face. "What?"
"Who the fuck was that?" I asked placing the food down.
"Jennifer, Miss Wilson. She's across the hall." She crossed her arms.
"Does she know you have a girlfriend?" I placed my hands on my hips.
By her expression, I could tell she was enjoying whatever this was. "It never came up." She shrugged. "Why, are you jealous?"
"Ha! Right, have you seen me?" I indicated to my whole body. "Bitch ain't got nothing on this." I scoffed.
"Uh huh." She smirked.
From my peripheral vision, I saw what's her face coming back. We were standing with our sides facing the door, so I pulled my girl closer. Taking her lips with mine, I gave her a searing kiss. Coaxing my tongue into her mouth, I smiled into the kiss when she moaned. My arms held her tightly as hers gripped my shoulders.
A throat cleared and Kailee pulled back or tried to. I kissed her again, she didn't object but gradually stopped me.
"Wait, baby." She panted out. We turned to a red faced woman and I smirked to myself.
"The um, papers." She stuttered, holding out her hand.
Kailee went to take the papers but I took hold of one hand. Refraining her from going too close to the enemy. She held out her free hand to accept them.
"Thanks, Jennifer."
The enemy eyed me before leaving out the door. Kailee went to shut it as I jumped on her desk.
"That should keep her away." I mumbled taking a bite of my croissant after.
"Not jealous my ass." Kailee came up between my legs.
My mind flashed back to that day I told her to check my dick. My face heated up as I remembered her hands pulling down on my boxers. If she noticed my blush right now, she didn't react. My goddess took my food out of my hand and ate it.
"That's mine, I got you one." I pouted.
"I want yours." She whispered.
I gulped watching her. Why was everything she did so breathtaking. I gripped her hips, drawing her to me.
"Can I have yours then?" I asked in a husky voice.
She smirked and placed a gentle kiss on my cheek. "You can have anything you want from me." I groaned, resting my head on her shoulder. "You have to go, baby. Class is going to start soon." She said through her giggles.
I reluctantly agreed. "I need to sleep anyway."
A few more kisses later, I left with the biggest smile on my face.
