"Hey, what do you have there buddy?" The fifteen year old questioned as he crouched down to see what his brother was playing with. Nothing of much importance though, just and old plastic toy car, weren't many of those laying around anymore. Once Tom saw it the time he was out patrolling, he knew he had to get it for his little brother, Sam.

Of course he didn't give the car to him right away. He had to make sure it was clean enough, who knows if there was any Revenant blood on there, it didn't matter what kind, just the blood itself was dangerous. He couldn't let that happen, little kids tended to put all sorts of things in their mouths, whether or not they would literally die from it. They just didn't understand.

That was something that Tom hated, he alwasy hated the fact that the younger ones never understood what everything meant. It always seemed like he knew what to do, even though when he was younger he never understood either.

He had his fair share of moments of near death when he was a toddler, way too many scares for his poor parents to handle. If they were being completly honest, Sam was easier compaired to little Tom. Sam just sat there playing with whatever he laid his eyes on, sure that was worrysome but Tom on the other hand started running before he could even walk.

"Gross, how could you put that in your mouth?" He questoned with a glare, the younger boy didn't understand a word that he was saying so he just continued to keep to himself. "Hmm, I guess you don't care. That's still fucking gross." The boy contined before letting the whole thing go and picking up his one year old brother, letting the child rest on his hip. Honestly Tom didn't know why he was up this late, he had to get up in a few hours to help work on the fences, or rather just keep look out while the older men did the heavy lifting.

The fence was in desperate need to be fixed, too many people sneaking out then coming back in all sick. Just last week he saw someone get shot in the head by one of the soilders after checking for any markings, sure enough they found one and put a bullet right in his skull.

Executions didn't really happen that much, but now it was more of a recent thing. It seemed like more people wanted to get out of this place, Tom never understood why. Strong soilders protected this place, the walls were sturdy, and there was enough rations.

Just like what he was annoyed about with Sam, Tom himself still didn't understand some things. He thought that if it was safe, people shouldn't want to leave. The children didn't see what happened behind closed doors. The truth of the matter was that almost everyone in here with a decent heart wanted to get out of here, find someplace better, if that even existed.

The only thing stopping them basically everything, the soilders, the inner city that was no doubt very unsafe and of course the Revenants that saw anything moving as a little nesting station to create more of itself, and also considered people like him a nice full course meal.

"Here, get some rest." Tom mumbled while putting Sam down on a rusted mattress, hearing the slight creaking of the metal springs from underneath him. If their parents knew they were up Tom would be dead, well he would just be grounded for a small bit but Tom wasn't ready to had that happen.

He just lost track of time, that happened to everyone. Knowing that is was now bedtime the little boy wasn't having it. He began to kick his legs, small whines leaving his mouth with an angry face. "Shhh, cut it out." Tom ordered while putting his legs back down.

It seemed like the little boy didn't want to chanllange him, not with that glare. So he just looked up at his brother in admiration making Tom laugh. Moving his brother over a bit more so he could have some room, the fifteen year old laid next to him.

It was dark, the only thing that brought off light was the moon shining through the cracks of the wooden boards that were nailed sterdely to the window. It got cold most nights, so he made sure to put a second cover on top of Sam before covering himself and laying on the pillow.

Finally his head rested, almost immiediantly he fell to sleep. Nothing but peace and quiet until the loud sound of gunshots and screaming jolted him awake.
