Of course Tom couldn't carry her the rest of the day just like that. Once she figured it was enough, he put her down and they began walking again. Later he carried her again, going off and on like that for a while until they found some shelter. It wasn't like how it was in Utah or the little part of Arizona, it was dry, and no tall trees just short ones. It was kinda like a dessert, dry and barley growing with plants. There was a lot of mountains and dirt hills, but no forest or wooded area to hide in.

They weren't really in any town or city yet, so they just stopped and began walking on the dirt a bit away from the street, but they could still see the road  in the distance. Still in his arms, he bent down and put her on the ground carefully letting out a very low grunt at the weight being lifted off. Slowly she unwrapped her arms from around him, her hands touching the dry and cracked ground.

"Thanks, how much do I own you again?" She questioned, looking up at him as he let out a tired sigh, dropping the two backpacks on the ground. His breathing was a bit heavy, which was quite understandable. Taking a minute to recompose himself, he ran his fingers through his hair before grabbing his water bottle, taking a few sips. "Hmm maybe a million fucking dollars." He joked with a very breathless chuckle.

The value of money before the fall seemed to be important, now she could literally just go inside a bank and fulfill his request no problem. "I'll make sure to get that for you once we're further into a city." She played along with a grin watching him set up his spot, he seemed very eager just to rest right now and there was no need to make a fire, it was already so hot. "I miss the forest now, the ground was so much softer." She recalled, poking at the very hard dirt beneath her.

"Yeah me too." Tom agreed with a sigh, only to continue further as he fixed up Juliets blanket right after he did his, putting their spots a little bit closer than usual, but she didn't notice at all. It wasn't a big difference, but to him it kinda was. "This will have to do for now. When we get into a city, maybe we can find someplace better." He told her with a strong nod, the two of them finally getting on top of their blankets, their dogs laying right beside them, they knew it was time to rest as well.

Tom was expecting a little conversation with her before they went to bed, like almost every night. "I'm the one that carried everything, including you while you took naps, and you're the one tired?" He told her with a chuckle, shoving her shoulder very gently while she laid on her side facing him, her eyes closed but a smile crept on her face. That was very true, but somehow she was still very tired. He knew that she heard him, but she was on the verge of resting, so he just left it alone.

Soon he laid on his side as well just to face her. It was dark, but the moon gave off some light, he could still made out her features like her nose and her lips. "Goodnight." He told her after a while even though he probably was just talking to himself, he really didn't think what he was going to get a response, but to his surprise, she did. Shifting a little bit in her position, she let out a sigh of content and responded with a sweet "goodnight" as well.
