No words were spoken for hours, the only sound was the gargling and growls going from outside as the revenants knocked on the metal repeatedly. Juliet and Tom didn't sleep, they were too anxious for that. They sat far away from each other, Tom on the floor at one corner, Juliet on the other side. The only one sleeping was Sumo, snoring like there was no tomorrow, compared to the sound of the undead, it was way better.
A old car that was parking in the mid middle of the garage acted as some sort of wall for the two. Tom and his companion that was sleeping on his lap, Juliet sitting down while Daisy paced back and forth, as if she was waiting for some type of attack. Mostly Daisy just kept her eyes on Tom for a while, before making her way back to her owner. Taking this opportunity, she petted the dog behind her ears with a small smile on her.
Letting his curiosity get the best of him, Tom slightly leaned his body over to look past the car, catching a glimpse of her. Daisy looked pretty scary and mean, but it looked like Juliet knew how to handle her, even Sumo, and they barley met. Tom was still surprised by his behavior earlier with her, he expected the dog just to attack her on the spot. As he leaned further, he had a clear view of her face.
For some reason he hadn't really gotten a good look at her. Now he did, just taking all of it in for a moment. It's been a long time since he's actually looked at someone without them trying to kill him, it was nice. Leaning back to how he once was before. "Was that you?" He questioned after a while. Pausing her movements on Daisys hair, she looked up, wondering what he was talking about. "Was what me?"
"The letters I-S-H, carved into the trees, and on the car window..." Tom elaborated, his mind was still on that for some reason, he didn't want to think about the swarm of revenants that surrounded them. "Oh, yeah. That was me." She answered, starring at the car that blocked her from actually looking at him. "What does it mean?" Tom asked, it could mean many things, and he tried to find out on his own but seeing that she's the one who wrote it, might as well just ask her. But she didn't answer, well, so much for that.
"What are you doing out here?" Tom asked as if he'd been meaning to ask her this since the moment he saw her, it had been in the back of his mind. Confused by the question, she tilted her head, even though he couldn't see her. "Exactly what you're doing, what everyone else is doing, trying not to die." Juliet said knowing it was a very obvious answer. "What are you doing out here?" The girl questioned back, now he was thinking that maybe it wasn't a good idea doing all this talking.
Tom didn't answer, so it went back to being silent. The way that he saw it, he didn't know her, and he wasn't planning to. He just forced himself to think like this, but it was working. The less he knew the better and easier it was, people died all the time, she was just another list of names. Juliet noticed his silence, but she didn't really mind though, she knew she was never really good with people. Well granted this was the only person she's ever had a full conversation with in a long time.
Getting up from her spot on the floor, she walked over to the locked door that lead out of the garage and into another part of the small building. "Do you have any thin pieces of metal? Like a bobby pin or something?" The girl asked looking down at Tom. He knew he didn't, but just to make sure, he checked his backpack, making sure to look in all the pockets. "Nope."
Gently waking Sumo up, Tom took a stand, brushing some of Sumos fur off his pants. Obviously she needed something to get that door open, it didn't hurt to look around. Every tool in the garage had been taken, bolts, nails, even parts of the parked car. So their chances of finding something were very slim, but it's not like they could just knock down the door, they needed to be quiet so the revenants outside would forget about them more quickly.
"You know how to pick a lock?" He questioned as he leaned down to get himself into the back of the car so he could look for anything that could help. "Yeah, I kinda have to know. I thought you would know since they practically teach you everything back there, like some soldier or something." Juliet said as she was kneeling by the locked door, looking into the very small key whole with one eye open and the other one closed.
Tom didn't really like being associated with the soldiers much, sure they taught him everything but he just didn't like it. Would he consider himself a soldier? In some ways, he would. Back in the classes they had there, he learned that soldiers were actually a real thing before that fall, when all the older people were younger. They said there was soldiers for different countries, and they fought for their home.
It sounded like they were really honored and respected, they sounded nice, good examples and leaders. Of course there would be some who weren't but the overall message they held before the fall was clear. The soldiers back in zone blue were actually soldiers before everything, but they seemed to have changed their ways and their message. Now, almost everyone was scared of them.
He liked to think he made a good soldier, but he would've wanted to be one before the fall, not during this time. "I guess I just missed those lessons." Tom commented quietly, continuing on with the search. It was kind of a big shot to open the desk drawer, and just like he suspected, it was absolutely empty, money was the only thing in it, not much use for that anymore.
Letting out a sigh, he went down to the floor, looking under the desk. Finally, something other than dust and bugs. "Will paper clips work?" He questioned, looking up at her after he had reached his hand under the desk for a few. Taking them from his hand, she quickly went back to her kneeling position near the door. "Yeah, thanks."
After a couple of failed attempts, and small cursing under her breath, Tom watched with his arms crossed. The chances in that door actually opening were very low, and they were getting even lower. Thinking she wasn't gonna get it open after all, he backed away slowly, ready to sit back down and let his dog rest in his lap. That was all until he heard a click, bringing his head up to see the girl do a small gesture of victory hands.
Taking her gun out, to get it ready for whatever was on the other side, Tom did as well. Without really saying anything, they knew they had to clear the room to make sure it was safe. In a quick motion, Juliet opened the door drawing her gun gun front of her. Looking left, then right, then left. No one seemed to be here, only the normal dead corpses. After Juliet slowly walked in further, Tom followed after her.
"Good thing the windows are border up, revenants would've broken through." Tom said gesturing at the windows. They were lucky it was bordered, but he could still hear revenants all around, they were still surrounded completely. "Just stay quiet..." he added, looking down at a corpse, putting the gun back in his holster only to pick up a new one that belonged to the dad man.
He probably got trapped in here, fought them off and won, but was bit so he ended it. It happened to everyone. "That's our way out, not now though, we still need to wait." Juliet said pointing to the exit door. "How long till they start to wonder off?" Tom questioned, watching her as looked around for anything, food, water. "A day, maybe two." She informed, this was a major inconvenience for him, he didn't want this, to be stuck with some stranger and revenants outside waiting for him.
