"So when am I gonna get your supplies?" Tom questioned with curiosity, looking over at Juliet who was walking on the other side of the road. He didn't want to be too close to her, so he suggested that she stay in her own space. "Whenever you get me somewhere that isn't out here. I'll give them to you, and you'll be on your way to get your people. You'll get the supplies, don't worry."
"But you can't have my bow and arrows." She added while he opened his mouth to continue speaking, as soon as she said that, his head dropped. "Damnit." He mumbled under his breath. "I promise I'll give them to you, if that's what you're worried about. I'm a woman of my word, so you have my word." She told him as she glanced over at the boy who was just looking straight ahead with a glare in his eyes.
He looked to be on edge all of the time, it was a good thing, but also unsettling for her. Sometimes it felt like he had a natural glare in his eyes, but then again she only knew him a couple days, and that glare was probably because of her. "Where are we going?" Juliet asked with curiosity, she was just following him around, and would be doing so for God knows how long.
She thought it would be good to know where they needed to be, or where he needed to be anyhow. "Texas." Tom answered in a monotone voice, he didn't feel like giving much detail, but he knew at some point he had to since she was tagging along with him now. "Texas?" She questioned with a small laugh. "You've got to me kidding me..." the girl mumbled under her breath as she shook her head.
"Have you been down there before?" Juliet asked beginning to walk over to his side of the road very subtly, she didn't know she was doing it. "What do you think?" It was pretty obvious he'd never really been anywhere besides states close to Washington. "Sorry, I was just asking." The girl responded to his sassy remark. "No, I've never been down there." Tom answered as he let out a long sigh. "What about you?"
Looking around, she shrugged her shoulders "No...I don't think so. I've been a lot of places, I don't think Texas is one of them." She answered with a small smile, Tom didn't know why she smiled so much. It's not that she did it on purpose, it was sort of a subconscious thing to make her seem less rude when she was talking.
Plus she was just happy to have someone to actually talk to even though he wasn't the ideal person to have a chat with. He didn't try to kill her, so that was kinda ideal. "So you just wonder around without any direction?" He asked subtly glancing at her in means to tell her to get back on her side of the road. "Yeah, I mean I don't know where I would go. That's why I told you I'm looking for something."
"...but you don't even know what you're looking for." Tom criticized, holding the strap of his bag tightly. "So how can you be looking?" He questioned in a very puzzled tone. Even knowing her for a few days, she confused him a bit. "I don't know, I just am. It's not that complicated, you don't really have to think about it that much." Juliet told him, slowly moving back to her original placement of walking.
Would Tom say that he was happy having someone to talk to? No, not really. It wasn't something he was thrilled about, he wouldn't mind it just being him. He couldn't deny that it was different, it didn't feel like he was repeating the same day so he'll give her that. All he needed was that supplies so this would have to do for now. Looking over at her, she seemed pretty well equipped.
Her bag was full, obviously she had some food, and and water. But he was more interested in the guns. Everybody and their mothers had a pistol, but she had a bit more on her, plus the bow and arrow. Then it crossed his mind, just to kill her and take her stuff, surly that would be way easier than bringing her along. Taking another look at Juliet, he thought twice about it. She did look strong for being a bit small, and obviously she knew how to take care of herself.
So she would probably be a hard person to kill, maybe she would kill him if he tried. But then other thoughts ran into is head. She fed Sumo, she cleared that path for him when he was surrounded, gave him food and helped him get out of that place when she had the chance to run. Now it wasn't such a good idea, the better half of him would feel guilty. Plus they were already on a first name basis.
While still looking at her, she just kept her head straight forward. Once she turned to look at him, he quickly looked up at the sky. Yup, she definitely scared him for no reason in particular, she just did. It's not that she looked mean, but she was just very observant, he could tell. Clearing his throat now that she looked away, he spoke. "I think we should rest up for the night. It's getting dark, lurkers are gonna start to come out."
"Come on." He gestured for her to follow before he took a left into the woods that were just beside the road. He wondered when they were going to actually see some houses or something, he needed supplies. "We can make a fire, that'll draw the lurkers away, but it might catch attention of other ones." Tom informed as the two pushed past leaves and stepped on twigs.
That's wasn't a bad idea, it was better to have a fire to push the lurkers away, they were pretty hard to deal with than the other revenants. "Here, this seems like a good spot." Tom suggested as he look off his backpack, zipping it up to pull out a blanket. Looking back to make sure Sumo and Daisy had followed them, Juliet caught the two playing. At first it looked like they were fighting, but it was just fun and games for them.
Deciding to join Tom, she look her blanket out as well, it was a bit thin, but there was nothing else. "I can start making the fire..." Juliet suggested quietly, a bit scared to interrupt the silence. "Okay, I'll go get some sticks. Keep watch around here, I'll be back." Tom told her while he got up, placing the blanket evenly on the ground. "How far are you going?" She questioned, she felt that he was the type to leave people behind.
"Not far. Just keep watch." Tom repeated, putting on his backpack and taking out his knife. And with that, he walked away into the trees that surrounded them. Then it crossed her mind that he wouldn't leave without his dog. Sumo was just patiently sitting next to where Juliet was standing. He was a pretty good dog, he was nice to her at least. Crouching down to his level, she held his face in her hands, scratching behind his ears. This would do, just to kill time.
Getting further into the woods, Tom let out a sigh. "What the hell am I doing here? This is a horrible idea, she's just gonna get me killed." Tom told himself. While he did go out to look for things for the fire, he also needed to think about what he was doing, and let out a little rant. "She could get Sumo killed. If I die then I won't be able to get Sam..." he mumbled, picking up sticks and some old scraps of paper.
If things go bad just leave, I have to stay alive for Sam and my parents. Me and sumo have to get to Texas. Plus she said she wasn't looking for anyone anyways, no one needs her. Tom thought to himself. He wasn't planning on leaving nor harming her but he just knew if things went bad, he would have to leave her behind.
Maybe they got stuck again, or chased after, he wouldn't go back to try and save her. Tom was well aware that was selfish but he had to be to survive. Of course Tom knew how bad that sounded, but his dad told him he should never feel bad for trying to survive, but he shouldn't celebrate the things he had to do either.
A/N:
This story is flopping y'all Ik but I'm already mentally invested in it even though it doesn't get a lot of reads.
