Hawk's POV

My cell goes off when I walk into my  office. Not my work or personal though. The burner. The League.  I let it ring, until the phone shuts off. I don't want to talk to him right now. I just want to be alone, and process everything.

Y/n has been digging in the wrong places. I mean, hell I know she tried to go through my phone. She definitely was trying to hear me through the door last night. She forgets that my feathers are sensitive... in more ways than one.

Speaking of Y/n, I'm running out of time. Dabi is getting impatient, and he might take things into his own hands soon. If that happens, Y/n is going to put up a hard fight, and burn herself out, and probably get herself burned.

"Hey Hawks?" Y/n stood at the doorway of the office, "I need to change our lunch plans today,"

I look up and see her. She probably knows about my position and everything that will happen soon. And yet, she is standing there with the most loving look in her eyes. It's like she see's me, and only me.

Is it too late to chance my mind?

"How come?" I asked her after a few seconds. I keep zoning out and into my thought. I need to get my head in the game more than ever.

Her eyes dart around the room before they settle on mine, "I think Miranda wants to have lunch together today," she says.

I nod, "Okay, that's fine, I'll see you tomorrow then?"

Y/n nods, and then leaves the room. I watch as she leaves, wondering if she knows how blatant her lie was. Doesn't she know that Miranda is on an undercover operation? Doesn't she know I know? Was she trying to test if I would call her out on it?

Just as the door closes, it opens again, "Wait, what are you doing tonight?" she asks in an accusing tone. Shit. Of course she would ask, this just confirms my thoughts: She was listening last night. It's time I assume that there is something about me on the suspect list. Keeping myself in these delusions of 'oh, she doesn't suspect me' isn't going to help.

"Uh, I have to do a quick little thing with a friend," I say. Not far from the truth, enough to peak her interest.

She raises an eyebrow and gives a shy smile, "So this friend, is he more important than me?"

"I never said it was a 'he'," I fire

"So you're meeting with a girl tonight?" she fires back.

I widen my eyes, "No, no," I chuckle, "I promise it's not a girl,"

She shrugs, "Fine, just don't screw me over. That would really suck, for you and me," and with that she's gone, taking her vibrant energy with her. My mind is racing. In any normal conversation, it would have been a baseless threat. But, now, with everything that I know now, that was much more than a baseless threat.

Does she know what Dabi wants me to do?

------------------

It was night time now. The stars were bright, but the moon was non-existent- it's a full moon tonight. No wonder Dabi picked today. People don't realize it, but the moon, even when it's a half-moon, is extremely bright, especially when you're in the woods. It makes it easier to see.

I say that because I'm meeting him today in the woods. Probably another warning for me to do my job and bring Y/n to him.

When I arrive, he's standing against a tree, brooding. I can tell, that he is angry. Which, makes sense. He has a lot to be angry about in his life, but I think today he's pissed because I'm late.

"You're late," he growled. Well, I was right.

I shrug, landing on my feet, "Sorry, I got held up," More like I really didn't want to come here.

"Whatever," he rolled his eyes and a tiny blue flame emerged on his burnt hand, "Lets talk business,"

"Okay so talk," I say, leaning against a tree, across from patch-work.

He raises an eyebrow, "Do I really have to say anything? You know exactly what I want to talk about,"

I shrug, pretending I have no idea what he was talking about, "C'mon Hawks," he says groaning, "don't make me burn you into a chicken tender," he says, the blue flame in his hand getting bigger, "I want to know the progress you've made with Y/n"

A shudder runs through my body, "I've made progress," I say vaguely. I direct my attention to the  bushes to the right, there is something-or someone- there. But then the rustling stopped, it probably was nothing.

"How much?" he asks, bringing my attention back to the conversation.

"Enough," there is confidence in my voice. Confidence that does not exist, thank god for my training.

"Enough that you can bring her to me in a week? Or enough that I have to do the job myself, because you really are kind of useless,"

I roll my eyes at his comment, "C'mon man, I've given you so much information about the commissions,"

"Useless information or wrong information," he sighs a breath, the flame going out. He brings out two hands, both of them covered in flames, "You better do you're job bird, or I will burn you to ashes, and no one will ever know the truth,"

He turns around walking in the opposite direction, "You better bring her to the base in one week Hawks, or I will take her myself,"

He walks away leaving me, seemingly alone in the woods to sort out my thoughts. The wind wasn't loud but it was definitely strong. I do remember a storm was approaching us, I guess it might be a bad one. There was something about the way the wind blew; a weird tang of... sadness? It's like the wind was crying about something that happened to it.

I fly home, but I couldn't stop thinking about how the wind felt. I doubt it was the wind that was crying.

Someone else was there too, and whoever that was, had been crying.
