I pound my fist against the door. It's night time again. I spent the entire day, and whatever money I had left walking across town to my house. The door opened slowly and I met my fathers wide eyes, "Y/N?" he opened the door fully and he looked me up and down, as if he couldn't believe that I was here.

I cough the smoke from the fire still screwing my lungs, "Hey dad, can I come in?"

-------

Dad ushered me inside and sat me down. He called for my mom, who was in the study, and went to fetch me a glass of water. His eyes were filled with worry as he watched me from the kitchen. Mom's silent footsteps came running down the hall as she met my body, which was most likely covered in dirt and soot. I knew my hair was a mess, and if I were to live on the streets right now, I could for sure pass off as a hobo.

"Oh my god, Y/N!" Mom grabbed me into her arms, "your teacher called us and said that the entire safe house erupted in blue flames and that it was possible you were taken?!"

I shake my head and pull away, "No mama, that's not entirely true,"my voice shook.

Dad came back with the water, and I drained the entire cup and then asked for another. I was completely dehydrated and had eaten nothing all day, "Do you guys have food? I haven't eaten since yesterday,"

Dad's eyes, similar to mine in color, welled up with tears just as mom started to quietly sob. I hold their hands, "Mom, please, I'm fine," I try to keep my voice steady, but honestly I don't really have it in me anymore, "it's okay, I'm alive, mama," I stammer, clearly not okay.  Dad brings me into a hug, kissing my head over and over.

"We thought you were dead," he said, quietly, "we thought our daughter was dead, and that we would never see you again," he pulled back and chuckled, "so forgive us for being a little emotional,"

Tears flowed from exhaustion, from relief from just everything that's been happening since I joined the work study. I completely let down the barrier I've been keeping up for the last month and a half. Emotions swirled through me one after the other without a break. Tears of joy, relief, anger, and exhaustion flowed through me until the three of us are on the couch, in silence.

"Where's Cece?" I ask, staring at the ceiling.

"We got Cece a flight out of the country," mom said, "or rather, she insisted on it. Said that she didn't want to be here when all of us died, and that if we knew what was good for us we would leave too," Mom turned to face me, "that sister of yours is selfish, it makes me wonder how she's a healer,"

I let out a chuckle with my father, happy for the first time, despite the light pit in my stomach.

--------------

After a well deserved nap, it was time to figure out what to do next. Going to the commissions was not an option, neither was leaving the country since leaving would require passports, security checks, and my name and face are all over TV.

"Could we hide her here at the house?" Dad asked.

Mom shakes her head, "The commissions would get angry and assume we were working with the league," she sighed at my dad's confused look, "I don't know either, I just know that is what would happen,"

"So what's the other option?" I ask, sitting straight up in the velvet couch.

"I guess," mom thinks. She snaps her fingers like the light bulb in her head finally went off, "start over!"

Dad and I share a look, "huh?"

She giddy jumps up and down, "Completely start over! Like your father and I did before we had Cece," she looks at dad, "remember after our last mission?"

Dad looked a little worried, "But that was a last resort. We didn't completely disappear because a bunch of idiots were looking for us,"

"No, but we did disappear because no one else would help us," she said, "and it's not that we won't help you, but it's that we can't," she says looking at me, "we have no resources because we were cut off from every spy we've ever known,"

I looked between my parents, curiosity taking over, "What are you guys talking about?"

They shared a look, the kind of look where the two people know a dark secret that no one else knows, "It's a long story, Y/N,"

"I got time, it's not like I'm rushing anywhere,"

Dad sighed, "Alright, I guess you get to here the story about how your mother and I gave up our lives as spies,"

It's been way too long. I guess it's been a hiatus, and I'm formally announcing that I'm going on an indefinite hiatus. School has just been a lot along with some other things I'm doing, and while I have the entire story figured out, writing it is going to be the time commitment part, something I don't currently have.

I've also decided that I want to make Y/N my oc and name her Amara? What are your thoughts?
