One thing I noted about throughout the months of our friendship is our bond. She is like the big sister kind of person for me. Clearly, saves my butt all the time, listens to me, understand me, validates my feelings. She has been a better sister than Cece could ever be.
So, imagine my surprise when I see a letter, addressed to me, sitting on my nightstand when I wake up, along with a huge box of files next to my bed on the floor.
Y/N,
I'm sorry to have to do this to you. I got called for another mission, and well since you technically passed "the final exam" the agency is giving this case to you. It's unsual, and I too can't understand why they would ever give a rookie this entire case, but they did.
I left files about the mafia and your new mission. It's a lot of paper so here is a shortened list of basically everything you should know (including how to contact your advisor) in the next couple of pages. Use the other files for specific information.
In the box there is a boatload of cash if you need it, a computer, a new burner phone w/ your parents numbers, mine, and your advisor (unlimited minutes), and some other tech you may or may not use. It's all the stuff I was given for the mission.
Remember: Your main mission is to take down Hawks. Not the mafia, not the League. We can't have a pro-hero as deceptive and as trained as him to be siding with the LOV. I recommend getting close to him...by any means neccessary. I know you know this, but keep your emotions separate.
Wounds are fresh for you. Don't rub more salt into them.
With every bit of love,
Miranda
PS, you need to not sleep so deeply.
My palms sweat as realization hits me. Miranda left. I mean there is no way, right? This has to be some kind of test. I ran out of my apartment to hers, knowing that the energy i'm wasting right now won't give me the confirmation that I want. I turn right, then left, then right again, to her door: 288C
It's locked.
She really did leave me. What the hell is it with everyone either screwing me over, ditching me, or me having to ditch them? I stood against her door taking in my brandnew situation. Miranda left me, I passed my exam, I have to bring in Hawks "by any means neccessary" and somehow continue my cover as a quirkless mafia child?!
What kind of bullshit is this?!
Part of me wants to cry, the other part of me is angry, and the third part of me just wants to break down Miranda's old apartment. But I can't do any of them. I hate responsibilites.
First order of buissness is figuring out what the hell I need to do right now to get Hawks into custody, without blowing my cover and since Miranda won't be there to help me keep my cover, i'm going to have to study my file and become the new persona, throughly.
I went back to my apartment, the sun was peeking through the tree's. Shit, it's early and I have to come up with Miranda's cover story and start running her shop. We may get the mafia as customers, but we also get normal townspeople as customers as well. I should be fine though, Miranda wasn't scheduled to have a meeting with them today and neither was I.
I open the door to my apartment and walk back into my room, spreading all the files that she provided. Within the other pages of her note, she told me to go with a pretty believable cover story, told me how to get in contact with my new advisor, and the basics with what she did in terms of handling the mafia. My main mission may be getting to Hawks, but to get to him, I need the mafia.
