Maya POV
"Okay so you know you have to say sorry right?" I explained to Elva when we reached her school.
She made sure I had part of my uniform on this morning so that Lewis would know for sure that I was a firefighter.
She begged me to wear the hat but I thought that would be taking it too far."But he poked me," she pouted.
"I know and Miss Thomas told me she spoke to him about that," I said.
She was still frowning.
"Come here," I said, reaching to her.
I lifted her up on to my hip.
"Carina said she can pick you up from school today. That's something to look forward to," I reminded her.
I small smile crept onto her face.
"So no running," she said seriously.
"No definitely no running," I laughed.
We got to her classroom and Miss Thomas walked over with a very sheepish looking boy who I assumed was Lewis.
"Good morning," she said cheerily.
"Hi," I smiled.
The boy was looking up at my uniform with wide eyes and his mouth fell open like a fish.
"Lewis has something he would like to say," she said gesturing to the boy who was getting redder by the second.
"I'm sorry for pushing you and saying she wasn't a fire fighter," he said quietly.
I nudged Elva forward slightly.
"I'm sorry for hitting you in the face," she said, leaning back on my legs.
I stroked her hair to give her some comfort.
"Okay can we forget all about yesterday?" Miss Thomas asked them.
They both nodded.
Lewis went back inside the classroom.
I crouched in front of Elvie.
"You alright bub?"
She gave me a nod.
"Okay come give me a cuddle. I'll see you later baby girl," I said, opening my arms.
She gave me a hug and went into class happily enough.
And off to work I went.
Carina POV
I finished work earlier today.
Teddy had been on at me to grab coffee ever since I asked her to be my reference for Elva's social worker.
I knew she wanted to catch up.
I thought it would be nice to pick Elva up from school too. She's met Maya's work friends but not had chance to meet mine yet.
It would also be nice to see baby Allison.
The second Elva saw me at the gate she ran over to me. I lifted her straight into the air.
"Ciao bambina!" I said happily.
Her reaction to seeing me get her from school was everything.
I placed her back on the floor and took her small hand in mine.
"Have you had a good day?" I asked.
"Yeah, all the boys who laughed with Lewis kept asking questions about Maya and fire fighting. I think they're jealous," she said full of sass.
