Maya POV

After the door blew open, we scrambled to our feet. It wouldn't be long before the fire consumed the entire room and we were running out of oxygen and foam.

"We're gonna have to start trying to clear that exit," I said.

"What about structural integrity?" Andy shouted over the noise.

"We don't have a choice," I said, already trying to remove some of the blockage.

"Hughes update?" I ask as I was attempting to make a gap.

"We're almost through and will be straight up to you captain," she said.

We couldn't create a gap quick enough or big enough for us to get through.

At that moment all our radios went off.

"MAYDAY,"

"MAYDAY,"

"ALL FIREFIGHTERS OUT!"

I looked at Gibson and Herrera.

"We better be quick," Gibson said before launching an axe into the wall to attempt making a big enough gap for us.

"Hughes, Montgomery, Miller, Warren I want you out," I radioed.

"But captain we're almost up," Miller argued.

"Out!" I ordered.

"I think one more will do it but the whole roof and and wall might come down," Gibson explained.

I turned and saw that we had a couple of minutes at the most.

"Then we'll have to be quick getting through," Andy said matter of factly.

"Let's go Gibson," I said, giving him the all clear to knock down the wall.

Andy and I braced ourselves for the impact. The moment Gibson's axe came into contact with the remaining part of the wall, the entire thing came down.

"Just run!," I shouted.

We all quickly made it through the gap that had been created and made for the stairs. It's not surprising mayday was called, floor after floor was collapsing.

They were just going to have to fully evacuate and let the whole thing come down while preventing it from spreading to other buildings.

I was exhausted, every step down the stairs was killing me.

Embrace the pain I thought as I reminded myself of the girls I was trying to get back to.

After what felt like hours, the three of us finally emerged into the open air. I took my mask off and gasped for breath.

Immediately, we were surrounded by the rest of the team who were concerned with checking us over and giving us extra oxygen.

"Captain any injuries," Warren asked.

"I think I'm good," I said, still gasping for breath.

"I want you go to hospital and get checked out anyway," he said.

"No I'm fine, just need to get my oxygen back up," I said.

"Bishop, I really think that.."

I cut him off.

"Warren, I'm fine,"

He dropped it and went to check on Gibson and Herrera.

"Good work getting yourselves out of that," the chief said, coming over to check that 19 were alright.
