Maya POV

"Maya!"

"Maya!"

My eyes shot open and I sat up straight. I turned instantly to Carina who'd been shouting my name.

"Are you alright bellina?" She asked worriedly, her hand coming up to stroke my hair while she looked concerned.

"He got her," I breathed out. Still half asleep and trapped in the nightmare.

"He got out girl," I told her, beginning to cry.

"Oh bella," Carina sighed, pulling me into her arms and us both back to lay down.

She held me while I cried, the events of the previous day catching up with me.

"I need to check on Elva," I said, trying to push myself back up.

"Shhh Maya come here," Carina whispered, pulling me back and keeping me in her arms.

"I just need to.."

"Bellina she's fine, she's fast asleep in her bed," Carina assured me.

My mom had left that evening for my aunts house. She was going to stay with her for a while until things really settled.

"I could kill him," Carina said through gritted teeth.

She'd hit the roof when I explained what had happened after she arrived home from work. I had to do everything to stop her driving over to my parents house and putting her hands around his throat.

We lay in silence for a moment while Carina gently caressed my back.

"Go back to sleep bella," she said softly.

"I need to check in her before I can sleep," I said, pushing Carina's arm off me and climbing out of bed.

I tiptoed through the apartment and carefully pushed open Elva's bedroom door. The light seeping through the curtains lit the room enough for me to see her sleeping peacefully, her arms around bobby and hair all over the place. I smiled and watched her sleep, instantly more relaxed at the sight of her.

I gently closed the door and made my way back to bed.

"Happy now?" Carina winked as I wrapped myself around her body again.

"I can sleep now yes," I smirked, glad I got my own way.

She placed a soft kiss on my lips and let out a yawn.

"You need to sleep too, sorry for waking you," I whispered.

"You had a tough day. Don't worry about it bambina," she said softly.

I rested my head down and let myself fall asleep for the second time that night, hoping my dads face wouldn't make another appearance in my dreams.

The next day, I decided that Elva was to come to work with me. I needed to know where she was and that she was safe. Now that my mom had gone to my aunts, we'd lost a babysitter.

"What will you do if you're on a call?" Carina asked over breakfast.

I glanced over at Elva who was playing with her fire truck before turning back to Carina.

"It's against protocol but I'm taking her with me. As long as she waits inside the truck she'll be fine," I explained.

"Captain Bishop breaking protocol?" Carina smirked, raising her eyebrow.

"I just need to know where she is," I sighed.

"Maya this is the anxiety talking. Do not let this become an obsession," she replied seriously.
