Carina POV

I stood back and watched as Maya took charge and organised the team. Feeling a little helpless, I hung back by the room Elva was currently asleep in.

"He's still not answering Bishop," Victoria called over to Maya as she stared down at her phone.

"Keep trying," Maya instructed seriously.

"Guys put an extra layer on under your turnouts," she added, beginning to get herself ready to go out.

"Wait you're going out?" I asked her, moving from the doorway I was leaning against.

"Of course I am. We need to find him," she replied matter of factly.

"B-but bellina. The weather," I pointed out, unable to hide the concern in my voice.

"He's one of ours Carina. And even if it was a civilian missing, it's still my job," she said calmly, running her hand up and down my arm, gently squeezing at my elbow.

"Bishop?"

We both looked up to see Travis approaching.

"You managed to get an update?" Maya asked.

He shook his head and held out his palm.

On it sat a phone.

"Is that Jack's?" I asked.

He nodded.

"WHEN WE FIND HIM, I'M GONNA WRAP MY HANDS AROUND HIS NECK AND KILL HIM!" Maya shouted, slamming her hand against the lockers.

"Maya! The bambina!" I whisper shouted, quickly glancing around to see Elva begin to stir.

"M-mama," she whined, rubbing her tired eyes.

"Shhh it's alright bella, go back to sleep," I said gently, rushing over to crouch down beside the bed.

"Mama," she repeated.

"Shhh bambina," I soothed, stroking her hair through my fingers.

No amount of comfort from me was going to be enough to distract her from the commotion taking place just outside the door.

She pushed herself up and glanced over my shoulder.

"What's wrong mama?" She asked, her eyes wide now having woken up more.

"It's nothing for you to worry about Elva," I assured her.

"Mommy looks mad," she pointed out, her eyes not shifting from Maya.

"She's just busy working bella," I smiled.

"I help," she said innocently, climbing out of the bed to head over to the team.

"Elva wait here," I called out, reaching out to grab her.

Missing her arm by an inch, I got up to try and stop her before she reached Maya.

Too late.

"Mommy," she said sweetly, heading straight towards Maya.

"Mommy what's wrong?" She asked, wrapping her arms around Maya's legs and looking up at her.

Maya turned to me and gave me the, "Why's she up?" glare.

I help up my hands in defence.

"Hey, you woke her up slamming the lockers," I shrugged.

Maya turned back to our daughter and instantly softened. Her forehead relaxed and jaw unclenched.

She bent down and lifted Elva into the air, settling her straight onto her hip.
