Maya POV

"Okay 19 let's go!" I called as I jumped down from the engine.

My eyes quickly scanned the scene to take it all in.

This house was definitely burning.

"What's the plan Cap?" Montgomery asked, zipping up his turnout jacket.

"Gibson, Sullivan get round the back to assess and look for civilians. Herrera, Warren this side. Montgomery start pulling out the hoses," I instructed.

The team broke off and did as I asked.

Two minutes later, Warren and Herrera appeared with a victim under each arm.

"Miller, you're needed," I shouted, pulling him away from the Aid car.

He rushed over with oxygen, leaving Herrera and Warren free to go back in.

"Help. You have to help them!" One of the women screamed, removing the oxygen mask from her face.

"Ma'am can you tell me your name and how many more are inside?" I asked, rushing over to her.

"I'm Claire and there's three more. My kids, you have to help them," she panicked.

"Okay 19, three minors still inside we need them out!" I radioed.

"Captain visibility is severely compromised," Warren informed me.

"Lay low guys," I replied.

The smoke was rising, part of the roof was beginning to look incredibly vulnerable.

I felt my phone start to vibrate in my pocket. I ignored it and continued focusing my job.

I continued to get messages sent through, one after the other, distracting me slightly.

"Captain we've got two boys," Herrera radioed.

"Then let's get them out," I replied just as I heard a collapse from inside.

"19 check in!" I called.

Everyone replied, Gibson and Sullivan ran round from the back to help Montgomery with the hoses.

Herrera and Warren appeared again with an arm each around a teenage boy. Their mom gave a cry of relief as Miller quickly assessed them.

I quickly took out my phone and saw the Carina had been trying to get hold of me. I scanned over the messages, not fully taking them in until I read the name Gabri.

She was there.

In Italy.

With Carina.

While I was here.

The pressure I was under from this call and this mornings attempt at looking after Elva all began to feel a little too much.

I launched my phone to the floor, not caring in the slightest as to the damage caused.

"Lola!!! You have to get Lola!" The woman screamed.

"Captain it's so unstable. We've not even seen her," Warren explained.

"Please. Get my baby out. She's only 10!" Claire cried hysterically.

"Captain it's black in there!" Warren added.

I thought of Carina in Italy with Gabriella all over her, worming her way in. The fire started to build in my own body, needing to do something active.

I thought of Elva back at the station with Hughes. The thought of a child being stuck in a burning house had a completely different effect on me now I had my own little girl.
