Maya POV

"Elva slow down!" I called after the eager little girl running ahead of me as we approached the hospital.

"Elva!"

"Elva wait for mommy!" I shouted when she continued to run ahead.

"Come on mommy we've got to see Winter," she shouted back, waving for me to hurry and join her.

"Elva slow down,"

"You're going to...."

I sighed watching her hit the ground.

"Fall," I finished, hurrying over to her.

From the ground, she turned to look at me, more shock than pain covering her face.

She looked down at her scraped, bleeding hands and knees and stared back up at me.

"It's okay, you're alright. Be brave Elvie," I said, crouching down to her level.

She nodded her head but her eyes filled with tears, her bottom lip wobbling. I knew she wouldn't be able to stop herself from crying.

"You're alright," I said again, trying to assess the damage she'd done.

"Ooo bub that one looks a little nasty," I said, looking at the cut to her left knee, bloody and covered with dirt from the ground.

"M-mommy," she whimpered, starting to cry as the shock of falling over wore off.

"Mommy's here and you're okay," I said calmly, not wanting to show her any kind of stress or panic.

"Up you come," I said, standing up and reaching for her, lifting her up and onto my hip.

"M-mommy owie," she cried, burying her head into my shoulder.

"I know it hurts baby, we'll get you all cleaned up when we get to mama and Winter," I soothed, rubbing my hand up and down her back as I entered the hospital.

"Good job we've come here Elvie, you fell outside of the right place," I said, trying to lighten the mood.

"But that's why mommy told you to slow down," I added, wanting her to realise that this was a consequence of her not following an instruction.

"J-just excited mommy," she stuttered, tears still falling.

"Shhh I know bubba, mommy will fix those owies when we get upstairs," I assured her, pressing the button on the elevator.

It reached our floor and the bell dinged.

"Hey you're here early Captain," Amelia Shepherd said, appearing in front of us as the doors opened.

"We're here to see Winter before school aren't we Elvie?" I smiled, jiggling El on my hip.

"Yeah," Elva said quietly, her bottom lip still out.

"Oh dear what's happened here?" Amelia asked, gesturing to Elva's scraped hands and knees.

"Somebody took a tumble just outside the hospital," I said, pressing the button for the floor we needed.

"Oh no! Looks like you've been super brave though," Amelia pouted, tickling Elva's stomach a little and making her smile.

"My mommy is brave a lot," Elva said shyly.

"I bet that's where you get it from. How's about I follow you up to your sister's room and get all these cleaned up for you? I promise I'll be extra gentle?" Amelia suggested.

"You don't need to, I'm sure you're really busy, we can sor....""

"Maya it's no trouble, it saves me having to go interact with interns this early in the day and I can double check on Winter too" she smirked as we stepped out of the elevator.
