Elva POV

"Miss Rowlands?" I asked my teacher.

"Yes sweetheart?"

"Where's Molly?" I asked her, looking around the classroom for my friend.

"She's still sick Elva. She won't be in today," she told me.

"Oh," I said, hoping that she was okay.

I went and say at my table.

"Hi,"

I looked up and saw Lola sitting beside me.

"Hi," I smiled, happy she still wanted to sit with me.

"Are you coming to dance class tonight?" She asked.

"Mama is taking me," I nodded.

Miss Rowlands started the class. I was really tired so lay my head down on the desk.

"Elva sit up straight please," my teacher said.

I did as she asked by my head felt heavy.

She told us what to do and handed out our work books.

The words looked a bit funny on my page.

"Elva you've not answered one question yet sweetie. Is everything okay?" Miss Rowlands asked, crouching down beside my chair.

"I don't feel well," I told her, wanting my mama to pick me up.

She felt my head with the back of her hand.

"You're really warm Elva. Take your cardigan off and have some water," she said, standing back up.

She let me lay my head back on the desk until break time.

"What do you want for snack Elva?" Lola asked as we walked outside.

"I'm not hungry," I said quietly, holding my tummy.

"Elva sweetheart?"

I looked over and saw Miss Rowlands waving me over.

I walked up to her and she frowned.

"You look very pale Elva," she said sadly.

"My tummy hurts," I told her.

"I'm going to get the office to call one of you moms," she told me, shouting another teacher over to watch our class while she went inside.

"Are you still coming to dance class?" Lola asked, coming to stand by me.

"I want to," I said, my eyes starting to water.

"Elva's crying again," Lewis said, pointing at me to the other boys.

They laughed, making me feel even worse.

"She's sick," Lola said, glaring at them.

"Her mom isn't a good doctor then," he smirked back.

"My mama is the best doctor," I shouted, the pain in my tummy getting worse....

Maya POV

"I thought you were known for your time keeping Bishop," Dixon said sarcastically, following me into my office.

"I'm right on time thank you," I smiled, gesturing to the clock on my wall.

My version of on time was everyone else's early.

"Even so, cutting it very close today aren't we?" He chuckled.

"I was taking my daughter to school," I said flatly.
