Winter POV

"I told you no!" I screamed, slamming the door shut as hard as I could.

"No more. I said no more!" I screamed again, crossly folding my arms over my chest.

"Winter I have a good feeling about this one," I heard Mary say through the door.

"You said that about the Maverick's and the Wilson's and Pullman's," I yelled.

"I told you I don't care anymore. I don't want to meet anymore families," I said, throwing myself down on the floor, my back against the door.

"Winter you can't give up. There's a perfect family out there for you I promise," Mary said sounding desperate.

"You promised the Parker's were my perfect family and look what happened. They threw me back in here after a month," I snapped back.

Mary didn't reply.

She didn't have anything to say because she knew I was right.

I was gonna be stuck in here forever.

But that was better than being hurt time and time again.

Giving up was better.

"You can't stay in here all day Winter. You'll have to come down at some point," Mary said after a few minutes of silence.

"Make me," I said stubbornly.

"You haven't even let me tell you anything about this couple," Mary sighed.

"That's because I don't care," I sarcastically replied.

"Winter," Mary warned.

"What? Why would I wanna know anything about a couple I don't even wanna meet?"

"They sound pretty great Winter," Mary said, trying to tempt me.

"You mean like Mrs Pullman who was a kindergarten teacher but sent me back when she got pregnant? Or Mr Maverick who had a dance studio but hit me when I couldn't keep up with his classes? Or Mrs Herbert who adopted 12 children but had me for a month and sent me back? Yeah they all sounded pretty great at first," I shouted, becoming increasingly stressed out.

My heart was racing.

I wanted her to leave me alone and let it all go quiet again.

I wanted to sit in this room until I was old enough for Mary to kick me out and let me live my own life.

"They'll be here shortly Winter,"

"Great, then you can tell them not to bother with me," I said, actually feeling a little sad at the thought.

"I'll leave you to calm down," Mary said, finally giving up.

Just like everyone else did.

Maya POV

"Oh god I'm nervous," I said for the twentieth time since leaving the house.

"Really? You look so calm to me," Carina teased.

"Hey, you're nervous too. You panic baked cookies," I laughed.

"And they're delicious," Carina smirked, taking a bite out of one.

"Leave some for the kid," I joked, glancing over at her as I drove.

"And don't get crumbs in my car," I said seriously.

"We need to relax," Carina said, twisting their wedding ring around her finger.

"Winter is gonna be weirded out if we're all nervous and stupid," she added.
