Maya POV
"How far out Montgomery?" I called from the back of the aid car.
"3 minutes," he replied.
"Make it 2," I shouted urgently, watching as Winter began to seize again.
"Come on sweetie," I sighed, trying holding her writhing body still.
"Give her another diazepam," I instructed, watching as Carina was already reaching for the medication.
"It's alright bambina," she said to the small girl, placing the pill in her mouth and holding her mouth closed.
"Almost there bella," she added despite Winter not being able to hear her.
"We're here captain," Montgomery said as I felt the Aid Car slow down.
The back doors flew open and we were met by Teddy alongside three interns.
"Page Dr Shepard and Dr Hayes," Carina ordered.
"Carina what's going on?" Teddy asked, surprised to see us coming out of the Aid Car.
"Is that Elva?!" She asked shocked.
"No. Her sister," Carina said sharply.
"Winter Jones, eleven years old. 99% sure she's suffering from febrile seizures. I've been trying all morning to get her temperature down but it's only risen. Currently had two doses of diazepam," Carina explained formally as the gurney was wheeled into the hospital.
"So can we now page Shepard and Hayes," she snapped at the interns.
"Do as she says," Altman nodded, turning into one of the side rooms in the ER.
"And Adams,"
"Get as many ice packs as you can find," she added.
I watched as the young, dark haired intern ran off looking like a deer caught in headlights.
I don't know how Carina was managing to be in doctor mode and taking everyone through things. I felt as though I couldn't even breathe.
Flashbacks to when Elva got hurt in the storm were flooding my head, new terrifying memories of Winter also being made.
I moved to follow Winter but was instantly stopped by Teddy.
"We've got her. You two can't be in here," she said, also preventing Carina from entering.
"B-but Teddy. She's our...." Carina began to argue.
"Carina, you know I can't let you," she said firmly.
"I'll update you as soon as I can," she said, a soft tilt to her head now.
Giving in, the two of us stepped back away from the door and left Dr Altman to treat our soon to be daughter.
Carina began pacing around, unable to remain still.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to realise Vic and Travis were still here.
"You guys can get back to the station,"
I said, trying to discreetly wipe away tears."We're not leaving yet," Vic said adamantly.
"We're here Cap," Travis nodded supportively.
"Thank you," I said gratefully just as I watched Dr Shepard and who I assumed was Dr Hayes run through the ER and enter Winter's room.
"Carina," I said, managing to get her attention.
"Si?" She asked, evidently agitated.
"I need to go and call Mary, she can't go back to see that Winter's not there," I said, panicking about Carina and I getting in trouble with social services.
