Maya POV

Carina had already left for work when I woke up. I knew she had an early surgery.

I stretched , yawned and climbed out of bed before quickly throwing on some shorts and a vest top.

I made my way towards Elva's room and found her still fast asleep. I really didn't want to have to wake her up.

I entered her room and lay on the bed beside her. I lay on my side facing her and propped myself up on my elbow.

With my free hand, I began tracing patterns up and down her arm.

I watched as even in her sleep, she got little goosebumps at the touch.

"Elvie sweetheart, wake up bubba," I whispered.

"Mommy's here, wake up bub," I repeated.

She let out a little wine and rolled over to face me. Sleepily, she snuggled into my body and rested her head against me.

"Ahh ahhh bubba, wake up," I said a little louder.

"Nooo," she wined, snuggling even further into my chest.

"You've got to get up for school sweetie," I reminded her.

"Stay here," she said.

"I wish we could bubba, come on wake up for mommy," I said as I sat up and pulled her up with me.

"Up we get bub," I said, climbing out of bed with her in my arms.

"Mommy?" Elvie asked on the way to school.

"Yeah bubba?"

"Station or hospital after school?" she asked sweetly.

"Station sweetheart. Is that alright?" I replied.

"Yes I want to see Vic and Andy," she said smiling.

"They'll be glad to see you. They've missed you," I told her.

We arrived at the school gates.

"Give mommy a big hug," I said as I crouched down in front of her.

She wrapped her little arms around my neck.

"There's Molly," she said, pulling back from the hug.

"Have a good day baby girl," I smiled.

"Bye mommy," she said running in through the gates and over towards her little friend.

I quickly made my way to the station and joined the team for breakfast in the beanery.

"Morning Captain," Montgomery said, handing me a coffee as I sat around the table.

I sat back and sighed, taking the first sip.

"You alright Bishop?" Gibson asked.

"Long few days," I admitted.

"You've not even been in work," Miller laughed.

"Taking care of a sick kid, when you're sick yourself, plus a social worker visit is not easy Miller," I joked.

"How is Elva?" Vic asked.

"She's good, she went back to school today," I smiled, thinking about my girl.

"And the social worker?" Andy asked, her voice laced with concern.

"She came to tell us a couple were interested in adopting her," I started to explain.

Everyone stoppe still and stared at me. Their eyes all wide.

"So Carina and I said we wanted to adopt her too," I added.
